For heaven's sake bring phoenix into your squad it's our only chance against vassili

Im level 8 and i hate vassilis as much as you guys, i was even in a public match where everyone on my team were Pheonix and had to switch to another merc in game.
It’s like this pretty much on server I’ve played this week. Outside of a few outliers, average Vassili player level is well below 10.

Granted we all still got schooled but ayyy. :#

I wish people didn’t hate on Vassili. Well, people who play him, even if they’re low level. People should cut them some slack and understand that they will suck at first, because it’s one of the only things in this game that takes a lot of time, determination and self-hatred to get skillful with.

If we had community or private servers, it’d be better. People could practice in peace. Alas

It’s not Vassili we hate, it’s wannabe Vassili players we hate. And not the kind that already have a decent aim, but the ones that couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a Shotgun and somehow expect miracles with a sniper rifle.

(Sinee) #123

Yeah, I know. It’s just that everyone that first uses Vassili sucks with him. It’s just something you have to keep doing to get better with. Well, most people are like that I imagine. I mean maybe it’s easier for some if they come from CSGO being Captain AWP Bodyshot, but still.

Some days the only thing I can hit the broad side of a barn with is my dead body. :frowning:

(Matuno) #124

Just saying, people who start with Vassili too soon only disappoint themselves and their teams. They don’t learn what the game is all about, and are more likely to quit because they expected more out of it.

I love sniping, though Aimee’s now my go-to merc for it. I just don’t like it when half the team is trying to do the same and not taking point.

(MarsRover) #125

I see two main problems in level 4-5 snipers:

 1. aim - obviously only practice helps, but I would suggest a smoother learning curve than jumping from Skyhammers M4 straight to sniper rifles
 2. they don’t even know where to aim yet - they really should spend a few hours more as their prey to learn the maps

Dirty Bomb stories:

(attacking team in Chapel while fixing EV)

lv24: man why you guys using vasillis

lv6: well yknow, im pretty good sniper in CS:GO

lv5:you can shoot without taking damage from other team! dies from headshot by aura

lv7:i can only use vasilli in this game. other champion just sukk balls
gets shot in the face by aura

lv53:switch to defender side

lv1: I have played 600 hour in this game imma 420 noscope you from the other side of the map biatch!

the moral of the story, vasilli should not be available for low levels.

(Herr_Hanz) #127

vassili should be available for lower levels. he was the first merc i bought, no regrets.

(Matuno) #128

Anecdotal.

(blonk) #129

The drive to complete objectives should be instilled as early as possible in the player’s development. I’d say they should increase the price to 50k, that way people can save for him if they really are that hell bent on being a sneeper, but mercs like Sawboners and Proxy are more usefulappealing at the lower price

What’s with all this Phoenix hate anyway? All of the medics in this game have a place on the battlefield without stepping on each other too much, which is pretty great in itself. If you’re only seeing Phoenix as a weaker Sawbonez try rolling KE81 for a bit and see if it changes your mind.

(Smile.jpg) #130

Phoenix wins=>Proxy wins
Vassili wins=>Proxy may not win

(reciprocal) #131

I’m just so disappointed that more players would rather slot a situational merc like Vassilistrum rather than bring along a spare medic in case the team needs one.

It just reinforces the mentality that someone else will save me / pick me up. It’s quite selfish, honestly.

Out of the mercs in rotation, Vass is the cheapest but Phoenix was given away free to most players.
I think you actually have to play Phoenix, and not just keep him in squad. I remember a post, probably on SDs facebook, where they posted that Phoenix and Vaseline are 113 minutes apart ( when they were both 29%)
Most people have the Spaniard in their barracks, but they like to lube up more

I would really like to have official confirmation on this. @RazielWarmonic

(Maverix) #133

You only need it in your squad. No action time required.

(PleasantWheat) #134

Is it more effective to take the three other mercs to combat vassilis percentage of to just go only pheonix? Logic behind taking the other three is that it would in theory drain percentage away from vassili moreso than just having pheonix, but that would give pheonix less time with the other two in your squad… ARGH

(PeneTraitor) #135

Playing Vassili before you know the maps inside and out is just foolish, unless you are confidently able to headshot at least 60% of the time and always have hbs on cooldown. You are a detriment to the team otherwise. To play sniper you need to know the maps inside and out, identify the right choke points and above all else, kill what you shoot. It’s not the sniper class that generates the hate it is the people who do not understand what the job of the sniper class is in this game that are ruining the reputation. And also, knowing how many snipers is enough on a team. 2 snipers on attack on underground is not really helping your team, especially when they are in the bottom half of the scores. If those 2 snipers are the top of the scores and making the enemy afraid to show their melons, that is different. But how often does that even happen?

(KattiValk) #136

@Mercy I picked up Vassili later on (mid-20 levels), but I pretty much only sucked at him for one game after buying him before managing to get accustomed enough some top frags and other stuff like that. Obviously I’m still not as good as a Vassili main, but pulling your weight as that merc really doesn’t take much besides good aim, reflexes, and map sense. To be fair, I’ve got a some experience from other games (I shut down an entire BF4 server’s worth of snipers on Locker outside once, it was pretty fun), but that sort of applies to good aim.

(Herr_Hanz) #137

you still have to play vassili to properly play him on any map. being a level 20 medic main doesnt give you the map awareness of a sniper.

i should know :naughty:

You only need mercs in your squad to count towards their play time.

(PeneTraitor) #139

You could argue that map awareness makes a sniper good and not the other way around. Map awareness is a skill EVERY player should have. And it is largely rare given how I am able to flank using the exact same routes almost every game.

(Sinee) #140

It seems like BF4 is good for experience when picking up Vassili. @Merciless also has experience in that. I know when he first started sniping, he was still getting a fairly good K/D. Reflexes play a huge role in being good with Vas and twitching to heads accurately.

So certain games prior, CSGO/BF seem to be good for making it easier to use him. But I don’t have any prior FPS experience (DB is my first), so I’ve certainly struggled (and still struggle). Being consistently good is a bitch for me.

Experience in other games helps a LOT for sure. Wish I had more too so it wasn’t such a challenge sometimes!
