For all of you out there with keys in the USA

I live on the West Coast, but i do have other responsbilities when I come from work. I have to make dinner, feed my kids, give them a bath, put them to bed and occasionally even spend time with my wife. It’s actually easier for me to play with the Euro crew on the weekends than to use the west coast server, as much as I appreciate the fact that they have one. I am still playing the Alpha when I can, mostly around lunchtime on weekends…

I don’t like how there is no prone in the game. Especially when you’re working objectives. Minimizing your visible profile while completing objectives is sort of meat and potatoes for engineers. It does give a small amount of survive-ability to planters and constructors and takes away some of the LOSs available from those trying to stop you. I brought this up during the testing and if I remember right the OP was very adamant about prone being completely unacceptable. Now I don’t remember it ever being complained about in W:ET and ETQW unless it was about “proning” during a firefight for a reduced hitbox advantage/exploit.

The engy shotgun is ok, but I’d like to see some other options. Maybe a GL as you level up? (maybe this already in I’ve only got to level 2) or a M16 option to the shotgun.[/QUOTE]

Engineer #2 does have assault rifle rather than shotgun. And +1 for prone, I miss it when I’m trying to complete an engineering objective…

I posted this in the same thread (but in competitive forum).

I’ll keep playing, but I suck compared to most of the ppl playing here in the alpha. I can only take getting slaughtered for a few games before I need to quit and play something a little less frustrating.

Vandemark and I left last night after getting spawn camped and outmatched for 8 straight minutes. Not fun and too stressful. We ended up playing some Civ5 instead. I lit some scented candles, listened to some smooth jazz, and enjoyed a nice box of sparkling wine.

I just appreciate the fact that your one of the more active testers even if you feel out matched sometimes. I don’t really enjoy one-sided games if it can be helped either, as it defeats the purpose of balance testing. Once I get back on my normal PC, I’ll be sure to piggyback you to victory!

(murka) #26

The performance problems are understandable as this game requires a hell of a cpu and most people with old cpus need to replace closely related components as well so this should be around a 300-400€ upgrade. People who bought proper hardware can at least overclock and reach acceptable framerates. The E8x00 series CPU-s are decent overclockers, especially the ones with E0 stepping. Getting them to 400mhz FSB should be no problem even with stock cooling on most motherboards tho going over that is a gamble.

(SinDonor) #27

Yeah, playing on balanced teams helps quell the rage, even if I am the worst guy on the team. But it’s just crappy when the teams are unbalanced, I am going 2-20 and unable to get any objectives done.

(INF3RN0) #28

I understand how annoying it is to play with low fps now. I don’t really understand why the game is so difficult to run, as my brother has a 6core CPU and an ATI 5850 and I still can only get 20-30fps on his rig. Still the invite includes the minimum requirements and it’s up to people to decide whether that’s going to stop them from playing. I know if I didn’t get at least 60fps I would have instantly declined the invite.

(Apoc) #29

I have an i5, with 480 gtx - get 120-140 on low fx with vsync disabled. Seems fine for me. If you leave it on normal graphics tho i play at a solid 60

(Thundermuffin) #30

To be honest I knew I’d have “low” FPS (I was thinking stable 60ish), but I would have never thought it would dip into the teens all the time even at an alpha stage. I figured I would be able to tweak the configs to be able to get stable, relatively high FPS, because I’ve done that for every other alpha/beta or retail game I’ve been in/bought; it hasn’t posed a problem at all until DB and that really confuses me because I’m able to run other UE3 games with no problems, and DB just doesn’t seem like it should need all the resources it wants.

(SinDonor) #31

Had some fun for a few games with Valdez, Evildoer, Humate and the crew. I still suck and I am too fracking slow for this game. RAGE QUIT!

I appreciate the tips from a few in the game though. Still can’t get a headshot or win a 1v1 if my life depended on it.

I’m going to the bar. A few friends called and said all of the happy Seahawks fans just showed up and it’s a humdinger. I always win at drinking beer and it’s at a speed I can deal with.

(DarkangelUK) #32

Let’s be honest here, it doesn’t matter if you had no time at all to play or a rig that couldn’t run it past 5fps, curiosity and excitement alone would make you accept the invite so you could get a glimpse of what SD are up to… and if you say otherwise then you’re a liar.

(Humate) #33

^ I agree, although I offered to wait for the beta due to timezone/ping issues.
I thought I would probably give better feedback if I waited, but they made the alpha account anyway.

(Dragonji) #34

You should definitely overclock your CPU. Would be a sin not to do it

(not a screenshot of mine)

BTW, I’m not an American, however, I’d like to explain my absence from alpha tests. I had problems with my ADSL Internet for almost 2 weeks and I wasn’t able to play through my mobile EDGE connection as well 'cause it sucks badly. My ISP has managed to fix my ADSL line already but in the meantime my bro needed a computer so I lent my laptop to him. At the moment I’m out of anything what could be used to play computer games :D. I ordered new mobo (Foxconn P35AP-S) & RAM (2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz CL6) for my old desktop (E8400, HD4850, 450W PSU, 500GB HDD) so I believe I’ll be able to play in a few days!

I think SD would expect a certain level of non participation and atrophy amongst testers. For me, I’ve tried to participate in the evenings and late nights over the weekends. If I can be totally honest though I’ve found the testing recently to be frustrating for the following reasons.

  1. Wide skill gaps. As more competitive players join it is becoming harder to play a game where you’re not just being dominated into a early grave. This is of course an unfortunate issue where a small test group is functioning but I do think those players of higher skill need to ensure they’re not stacking out any one team.

  2. No Objective Focus. I get increasingly frustrated when playing when what seems like nearly the whole team leave the objective to go play TDM on another part of the map. I’d see charges placed at the wall in Waterloo only for my team to spawn and run right past it towards the attacker spawn. I playing a game last night and lay incapped by the EV for nearly two minutes without a single team mate approach it. If people want to focus on testing movement and weapons why not use the TDM server?

  3. Launcher improvements. I started this thread http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/33871-Options-to-Join-Servers-via-the-Launcher at the weekend. I see these things as being critical for the released game but also during testing it would be very nice to be able to do some of this stuff. I wonder how many people think about having a game, refresh the server browser, see nobody on and then just go do something else.

(murka) #36

This! Although i mostly hop on a server and alt-tab out of it. When i hear someone shooting or w/e i jump back in and wait for other people, but most people rather exit out of the game than alt-tab. I do wonder why they do that.

Would be nice if there was a way to shuffle, I’ve noticed on more than a few occasions the same names gracing one side of the team rosters.

(Dormamu) #38

Some of the people are confused because they don’t know what to do. Some kind of “To do list”, “a set guideline”, “checklist of some sort” would be a big help.
From what i have understood, i am here to make suggestions or give ideas to help improve DB. I also need to report and give ideas to help get rid of, or work around, any major problems. But i don’t know what are those major problems  or were do you need help.
It seems that i report the little things :D, things you most likely know about. So, i look forward to 2013 to kick this Alpha into high gear

PS. I play at 30-40fps, overclock will result in AMD Delta Time crash :D, Alt+Tab would result in a connection lost to server or a “Code3” exit
I also noticed that *.ini have already some of the general fps increase tweaks :D. GJ

(Apoc) #39

I don’t think people are stacking on purpose, its just you cant see who’s on what team unless you join a team. Or by going spec… But who goes spec before joining…

(DarkangelUK) #40

We’ll call it a big mahoosive coincidence then.
