Footswitch Sprint Control?

(schmeisser) #1

Is it possible to have the sprint command controlled by a simple footswitch? I have stupid fingers, can’t seem to get them onto various keys like strafe and sprint simultaneously. Been playing for a year, still lousy at firefights becuse I’m not sprinting. A footswitch seems more intuitive, light stepping on the gas. Suggestions?

Bind sprint to mouse button 4 if you have that

If you have a steering wheel you may be able to assign the pedals to keypresses, if your software allows it
I wouldn’t know though

driving in ET? sounds crazy

see is there is a button name for the pedals on the joystick

If your computer has a old style joystic port, it is trivial to wire up a fake joystick with a couple of switches (google!). Assumining ET still allows you to bind joystick buttons, that should work just fine.

or buy a little usb number pad then take off all the keys except the middle key(5) then glue a piece of thin wood the saize of the whole numberpad over the top of the 5 key so you now have a HUGE 5 key then put it on the floor and bind sprint to 5 on numberpad =P wass gonna do thsi awhile ago for reload but decided against ti as my fingers are fine

Check this one out. Might fit the bill. They also have single-button devices. I may give this a try. I really am uncoordinated, finger-wise. Shoulda taken those typing lessons.

what about USB?

schmeisser: That looks like it would work, but $120 is a lot to pay. If I were you, I’d cannibalize a $10 joystick or gamepad instead. The normal problem with cheapo game devices is that the analog controls suck, but since you only need switches, that shouldn’t be a problem. Using a cheap game device would let you use USB if you wanted, as well.

I’m surprised to find nothing cheaper online. It would be less than a glorified mouse, all it has to do is be key assign programmable. $120 is a bit ridculous, I agree. Don’t have much experience in jury-rigging a setup with cannabalized devices. Shows you my level of ET addiction to even consider it, I guess. I’ll post if I come up with anything off the shelf.
Thanks all.

schmeisser: What keys are u using for movement?

When using WASD or something similar you can have your pinky on the sprint key  which is then “left shift”

Further more i really suggest you keep training that key setup (wasd or similar)

I find the pinky finger on the shift key is a bit uncomfortable so I made it caps lock.
ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT YOU MIGHT TYPE LIKE THIS

im a rambo med i dont need an alternative fire so i put sprint as the right mouse button

ChrOnicles:
I use standard A & D for strafe, pinky on sprint, right mouse for move, left for attack, center wheel press for reverse. The problem is the pink/first/third coordination left hand. I thought of the footswitch cause I find myself reflexively “stomping on the gas” with my right foot when I want to sprint. Weird, eh? Like a dog running in his sleep. Can’t seem to get the side button on my optical mouse to work as sprint.
