Honestly, I would love to see Fletcher players get access to better guns but at the cost of stickies being a bit worse. I just don’t like his weapon selection and the current meta on how to play Fletcher right just isn’t my style.
Fletcher's Shadow Nerf

I knew the game was in beta. I didn’t know the dev team was too :v[/quote]
You must not read my posts then
Agreed, all that Fletchers seem to do is walljump spamming and lobbing stickies at anything that moves doing ridiculous amounts of splash damage with very little effort. Nerf detonation time more to make players able to dodge stickies that didn’t get direct hits but buff Blishlock and shotguns a bit more. I mean come on, Nader uses her SMG far more than the Lactic, Fletchers rarely rely on their weapons as their primary way of killing.
Instead of changing Fletcher’s weapon choices I’d rather just go about making his existing selection more viable. The Blishlok is pretty bad as far as SMGs go I don’t know that anyone would complain if it were buffed to some extent. Shotguns are a bunch of fun and good for close range combat, but basically every map forces long range combat at certain spots. Adding more cover or alternate routes at problem spots would go a long way. For example, at Chapel there’s a street intersection that the attackers have no way to bypass, but exposes them to fire from the entirety of the street (and the sky).
With improved weaponry in place a sticky overhaul could then be implemented. However, it will be very trick to tone down stickies while ensuring that they still remain an effective and essential tool for Fletcher. Whatever is done, I would definitely make it a priority to reduce the disparity between sticky effectiveness with and without lock on.
Nerf cooldown and he’d still be viable but less spammy. Isn’t that what most people want? Less sticky bomb spam?

Why does nader get 5 projectiles with a better cooldown and a better weapon selection then? Only because she is not an engineer?
People just QQ over explosives. Then Splash damage nerfs them. ie all of the massive explosives nerfs for every merc since alpha.
You’d think people would expect explosive spam in a game called Dirty Bomb. Made by Splash Damage.

We just absolutly got destroyed by a tripple fletcher team in Metro. It’s like, why play anything else at this point, you can just lob stickies without stopping at the objectives and GG. They even use them as melee weapons.
Sure it’s the map worsening the issue, at range they’re useless, but it’s still a stupid experience. Chat was full of flaming, the Fletchers trolling and my team cursing them out. Why would you play Nader or Fragger if you Fletcher does it better?
@Ctrix Going up against a team of 3 coordinated good players who stomp you will be able to do it with whatever merc. It’s known that some mercs just are amazing when en masse.
Nader isn’t as good at CQB, which Fletcher is. That’s why people prefer Fletcher over Nader. Especially in close ranged maps like the one you were in.
I think this is just you having a bad experience and blaming the whole class as an issue. Most of the time Fletcher isn’t viable for most people. You have to be very good at throwing and sticking to be able to get kills with the bombs. Sure you can spam them but if you miss your first stick you are almost always dead. It’s high risk high reward.
And yeah, Fletcher is frustrating to play against because it’s surprising and terrifying in a way. Getting stuck by bombs sucks total balls. Especially when it’s on your face and you know you are dead and there is nothing you can do.
It’s a rage inducing class. That is Fletcher. But it does not make him OP.
@Sniff It was really only one good Fletcher and the rest of the team was perfectly average below level 10 players
The issue was simply that you finally got into whatever hole the bastard was throwing these things from, murder the fuck and then you turn around and there’s another one.
And it’s not about getting stuck. It’s that he can kill 4 people through splash because the cooldown is so short and all he has to do is step out of cover long enough to throw them at your feet. You can’t possibly shoot back, and if you just run in there’s an Aura with a shotgun or the guy just uses them as a melee weapon.

And I’m saying that can’t be a state. Nadder is supposed to be the Assault and Fletcher is supposed to be an Engineer.
In high level comp you almost never see fletchers, and yet you regularly see naders.
In the end fletcher is too close-combat oriented, and is very vulnerable in the open. The situation you describe can be a tough nut to crack but so is a rhino on top of aura station. What usually happens is that the enemy team is on average better than yours, and a particular merc or a merc combo looks to be like the sole reason responsible, when in fact its the entire enemy team that allowed the particular merc/combo to shine. In the particular scenario you describe, should your team be able to outgun the opponents at long range, this good fletcher player would be caught out and gunned down before getting close enough to make use of stickies.

I consider myself a good Fletcher. Getting a 4 kill streak is not likely. Just like throwing a mine on 5 people and shooting it is possible but is not likely.
Also, yes, Fletcher’s specialty is you pushing up on him. He is an engie, he defends C4. C4 Defense is CQB. He is great at playing corners corners.
However if you have a friend or simply don’t engage him and fall back a little to get him to advance, which is risky as Fletcher, then you should have an easier time killing him.
You can’t head on attack Fletcher, just like you can’t head on attack a Rhino. It’s just stupid to try. There are many players who just fuck me up because they refuse to engage in CQB and instead switch to a longer range merc. Almost every merc has better long range potential than Fletcher. I don’t think any other merc has as much CQB flexibility than him.
This is Fletcher. That’s what he does. Don’t get near him and you can kill him. And sure, again, 3 of any merc will be a pain in the ass on the right map. 3 Skyhammers can keep an EV down and keep people at a distance while killing them across the street.
Well said sniff. Since missmurder didn’t comfirm nor deny this, and instead said “I will look into this” hopefully that means that it was a bug or an unintentional change.
It’s been confirmed a bug by Splash Damage. So apologies that it’s like this right now but it will be fixed in the next update.
