Flametrooper's Manual

(Borsuk) #1

Hi.

I sometimes see Mortar, Mg42, Panzerfaust quite often… Flamethrower is quite underused weapon, and it doesn’t deserve it. No other weapon is so deadly at close range. Sometimes triggerhappy idiots take it and charge blindly at enemy and catch few kg’s of lead.

People don’t like Flamethrower at all. I love it.

The reason for this fact is that Flamethrower requires specific style of play and thinking. Most people have problems with thinking, and try to use FT as SMG, which is plain dumb.

Things to keep in mind:

  1. Flamethrower slows you down. You should run a lot with pistol, especially through open spaces. Change to Flamethrower when you reach “safe” area, like tight corridors, or sneak upon enemies.

  2. Wielding Flamethrower doesn’t make you bulletproof.

  3. Flamethrower is primarily defensive weapon, unless you make it to Level3 Heavy Weapons. Use Flamethrower in places, where enemies can’t see you until it’s too late. You can stand behind the corridor’s corner (90 degree), it’s good, but not perfect spot. Enemy coming from around corner will be facing your direction, which means you are going to take few hits no matter what.
Great spots are those, which allow to attack incoming enemies from flank, or even better, from behind.

Fuel Dump - almost no good spots. One good is above tunnel ladder. Others are: fuel dump main entrance (suggested near team door), near crates (everyone suspects ambush there; lots of spam so beware). It is possible to ambush allies in caves, lots of cover…

Rail Gun - Along with Fuel Dump, one of poorest maps for Flametrooper. You can try your luck in command post tunnels, at gun controls, depo yard, axis station… but don’t expect anything spectacular. Better idea is (assuming it’s not 3rd map) to take Panzerfaust and camp Axis station tower, because:

a) you can defend Gun Controls from there
b) allies often try to make gayfest on axis station. The tower is great defensive spot, allowing you to eliminate them easily and safely, especially with Panzer. You are pretty hard to spot there. No gayfest and respawn camping.
c) easy frags means your Heavy Weapons skill increases fairly quickly. On level1 your Panzer rate of fire increases by 1/3. Once Heavy Weapons is increased to level3 or 4, you are DEADLY with flamethrower.

Radar: suprisingly good map for Flametrooper. Great spot is at main entrance, next to team door, where Allies love to take cover. They usually presume it’s perfectly safe, (WRONG, you can even plant landmines there), and quickly jump in with weapon aimed at wooden bridge ahead. This means they come in range and don’t see you. You can kill several allies at once and still run away. You shouldn’t stay there for long, because you are likely to receive some poorly timed handgrenades or even Panzer rocket.

Another good spot is side entrance, particulary above the ladder.

Seawall Battery: pretty good for Flamethrowers.

spot1: lower static Mg42. Stay few meters from Mg itself, because it’s often targeted by mortar, panzer, airstrike and handgrenades. Allies like to look inside, which is usually their last fault. You are pretty hard to take out with SMG’s, and can punish Allies’ curiosity with ease. If you see and enemy good distance ahead of you, quickly run to Mg and perforate him.

spot2: above assault ramp. Not that great because you have to watch for snipers, and enemies incoming via ramp will quickly discover your position. Anyway, it allows to kill some attackers.

spot3: rear entrance via teamdoor. Easy to defend, but low traffic there.

spot4: main building entrance, on that large cupboard. Allies are unlikely to see you and easily fried.

there are many places inside main building, but it’s usually low traffic.

BAD SPOT: west bunker. There are too many teammates to avoid teamkilling.

: (map with anti-tank guns)
you can camp behind old city wall. There are many places in old city, one of most deadly - health/ammo cabinets. Upper entrance above wooden gates is pretty good. Flamethrower is good for defending anti-tank guns and second floor in general.
I think it could be great to camp below the water pump, several meters from ladder so you can’t be seen from above and can avoid grenades more easily.

Gold Rush: starting axis position, near command post.
If you are sneaky enough, try your skill above second tank barrier. With some luck you can kill several allies at once.
Other good spots are inside the bank.

  1. Try to never stay in one place too long.

  2. Flamethrower is for sneaky soldiers. Pervert Op training is recommended. It also helps if you player Deus Ex/Thief

  3. You are likely to receive some hits. Medic is your friend.

  4. You CAN fire pistol and throw grenades. People often think Flametrooper is stationary, easy target. For intance, one day on Radar, I was guarding side entrance. Covert Op arrived and turned into ash. Next time i wounded him, but just moderately. He retreated and started throwing grenades. I rushed inside with pistol looking for him (knowing he’s wounded). I looked thru Mg window and emptied the clip in his back.

  5. When mobile, don’t alert enemies of your presence unless necesary. Unless you have godlike aim, great ping and lots of health, instead of using pistol sprint to enemy, change weapon to Flamethrower and set him/them on fire. Generally, if you see enemies from flank/behind, and they are unlikely to turn around, sprint towards them with pistol and then change to flametrower. Lots of fun.

Thanks. Good tips for all players. Those that don’t learn from others, learn from mistakes…

Agreed. Nice job on the tutorial.

I enjoy the flamethrower as a way to root out stubborn defenders. I only go to it when something needs cleared…
