Yep, I can’t wait anymore… Not that whatever they say will matter, I preordered anyway.
First reviews after or before the launch?
Well, it depends on Bethesda. If they have faith in Brink then they could easily allow before release reviews.
But I can still imagine reviewers whining about the game. The SP portion, 1 main game mode (even tho modes and classes are totally designed around it), repetetive voice-overs etc.
I think this is a game that reviewers should play a couple days online to get the feel for. So I expect a lot of post release reviews. At least any that are legit.
Reviewers get to play games online with other reviewers and specific people before the launch. Which is actually for the best because they don’t have to deal with the 12-year-olds on the consoles.
I remember people made a big fuss when Blizzard wouldn’t let reviewers say anything about the game (SC2) until they released it for everyone. To make sure reviewers got to test the new battle.net.
I never pay attention to reviews anyway. In my own personal experience, every game that I’ve enjoyed has always gotten low scores from reviewers. I’m the same way about the movies I go see. I’m not gonna let some kid that gets paid (or not) to voice his opinion tell me what to play.
I’m just hoping for new information about the game, from someone who never played the game before and gets to experience it first hand. Hopefully, it will be someone who enjoys playing games and doesn’t think of it as just another job.
First PC reviews will be after launch for sure. Never seen a publisher send a PC review copy for a multi platform game.
It was like that for me with Divinity II. Everyone bags on it. But once you get past the initial phases where everything destroys you and you get frustrated all the time. It’s better then most RPGs out there. It takes 3-5 hours of gameplay for it to really begin to shine. Some people can’t handle that.
But the game I was thinking of that came to mind was Alpha Protocol. It got such horrible reviews and I will even admit that its buggy and horrible. But there is just something about choosing to execute a guy in 80’s clothing fighting you to “Turn Up the Radio” I enjoyed it. But I think it got an average score of like 5 or 6 outta 10.
But Brink will score high, and I’ll still enjoy it >.>
though, I have seen alot of people who haven’t even heard of it yet. I’ve talked to 3 close friends here and asked if they were getting it, and they were all saying “What’s Brink” So I punched them.
Side-note: Went to Gamestop the other day to talk to someone, saw Brink cases lining the wall behind the counter, had to look at phone to see if it was May10th and I just didn’t realize. I sad faced all the way home.
If the reviews are good, everyone will be happy and praise the review outlets. If the reviews are bad, everyone will say the reviews don’t matter. What does it matter?
They’re valid points though. Some people simply aren’t looking for a game like this and want a more scripted singleplayer or a more simple multiplayer. Brink does an incredible job at combining both interests but the two extremes on both ends simply won’t be covered (shouldn’t want to be covered either, that would produce a turd of a game) and it’s up to the reviewer to warn those about it.
However, a reviewer would err to use these points to make Brink score less. That would be downrating a realistic flight simulator for the lack of action or game like mario party for the lack of depth.
Everyone either neglects or doesn’t want to say what ‘some’ maybe all reviewers expect from game
developers. Pay us and we will be gentle. And it’s not a myth.
I just want some more information to keep the thirst under controll.

You know its sad but true.
DEEP BREATH…AND…
You would think that the reviews will be overwhelmingly popular considering the overwhelmingly positive PREVIEWS that have been posted since the Bethesda Utah gig, PAX east, and other preview parties for the press.
Regardless, it is my prediction that it will land in the mid-high 80’s on Metacritic regarding the cough “professional reviews” cough. Mostly they will rave about it but cut off a star due to “no single player campaign” (yes, I know what you are going to say about the bots…but some of the reviewers just won’t get it or won’t get what SD is trying to accomplish), “just don’t know why there aren’t any female models considering the vast amount of customization”, and the misconception that they HAVE to play online to have fun. Oh, and they will probably only level their characters to the second tier and then rush to their keyboards to be the first to publish a REVIEW (how could it be a review after only playing for a few hours???).
And for the user reviews…most will be 10’s and 9’s from the user reviews, but the average will be pulled down to an overall 7 or 8 average. Mostly because those who don’t get it…cough CoD run and gun lone wolf types cough will bitch and moan about all the stuff us ejumicated types already know about and are looking forward to (no “dedicated” sniper weapons, no “rag doll”, no female character models, etc.) and will be extremely pissed that the actually have to…gasp… work together. Because of this shock to their system, they will SPRINT with their SMART ASS button (see what I did there???) straight to the meta review posts to give their opinion as to why the game sucks and why it’s no CoD. Oh, let’s not forget about the those who are upset that SD went multiplatform (either forgetting or just plain ignorant about ETQW) and will post something along the following…“this is clearly a console port and SD has sold their soul to the console devils and abandoned the loyal PC community” (followed by a pledge to NEVER BUY A SD GAME AGAIN!!! sniff)…and then go right back online and play the crap out of the game.
Ok, I feel better now…
Most important question I have about Brink reviews is whether mine will be a proper review or just a user review on Metacritic.
