First Gaming Rig

(Sparrow) #1

I’ve never built a computer before, and wanted to build a gaming PC. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated as I sort of know what I’m doing, but I really don’t :stuck_out_tongue:

lot of money with only a $100 vid card, shuffle your money around, you don’t need a $300 motherboard. I’d drop a hun off the mb and spend it on the vid card

I’d consider a Intel Core i7-2600 instead for the money

(fearlessfox) #3

I’d check out New Egg, it’s considered by most I know as the best site to deal with in terms of value and service.

Good to cross reference stuff when you’re making this kind of investment, too.

if you want to save some money and if there is a local microcenter in your area you can buy the i7 960 for $199 (same CPU i have with a rampage extreme III motherboard)…

i suggest at least a 1kW PSU though, you will thank yourself in a yr or two when you decide to upgrade… if you’re able to get the CPU from microcenter then i also suggest putting the extra funds towards a better GPU. the i7 960 is overkill for the GPU you posted.

IMO top priority is GPU… get a $175 motherboard and put all the extra money into the GPU, spend at least $300 on GPU if you can, not on motherboard.

Better? I’m such a noob:rolleyes:

(Nail) #6

first: check for local computer parts wholesalers, computer sales etc in your neighborhood, it’s worth spending 20 - 50 bucks more overall from them on some things and have instant support, they like helping, they be gamers too

$200 min for vid card if you want a gamer (most ppl say $3oo), scale around that, you want the fastest HDD you can get for $50, add externals later, lots of intelligent cooling (don’t have fans fighting flow), minimum 750w PSU and a well vented case

(Sparrow) #7

This is so confusing/frustrating and exciting at the same time :stuck_out_tongue:

My budget was around 850 and I see a deal in Newegg for the 560.

Running BRINK on a Dell studio now.

(Sparrow) #10

Please, hijack it by all means, I’ll learn more that way

(SentencedToBurn) #12

What does any of this have to do with brink general discussion :S

(BOTA:99) #13

Hes wanting to build a computer that will run Brink well I’m assuming?

(Nail) #14

it ain’t someone bitchin bout lag while their brother donloads porn and mommy watches Netflix on a shaky netgear modem, so it continues

(Sparrow) #15

Yes, I want to build a computer to run Brink and get back in PC gaming. Brink on 360 is kind of a joke. I use to play Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, and loved it. I need to get back into PC gaming, and I want to do it with Brink.

(SentencedToBurn) #16

well I’m just not gonna bother posting my threads in the proper forums anymore if nobody else does… I think I’ll go on the Activision forums and start a thread about Medal of Honor. That makes sense to me.

(Sparrow) #17

Mods can move it if they want.

(Nail) #18

He wants to build a computer to play Brink, this is a Brink help forum, we’re helping him, you don’t like it, don’t read the thread

(SentencedToBurn) #19

Okay, but only as long as he uses the computer SOLELY for playing Brink, otherwise, argument is moot

dont cry.

(Nail) #20

peace my brother, we’re here to help people, not chastise them
