Don’t be mad cause you can’t argue bruh…

Gtx 560 ti soc
Just got one of these. Well worth it. Cooling is superb no probe with it

(Lomaso) #23

Is it cheaper to build one than buy pre built? I had a top of the range one on scan.co.uk last night, overclocked to 4.7ghz and all that good stuff, £1,356, this is good no? That’s without no accessories though

(Wepohn) #24

Don’t bother with a 2600 if you’re main use is gaming, Hyper Threading wont be useful unless your doing lots of rendering etc.

The 2500k is better than the i7 960 but if you plan to overclock make sure you get a P and not an H motherboard.

The 460 is a good card but at the moment the Gigabyte SOC 480 is considered the best value for money at the moment.

The P67 Sabretooth is a VERY good board.

I thought I would add this to give you a quick idea of the build I’m about to go with

Gigabyte P67A UD4
I5 2500K
8GB Mushkin 1.35 volt (remember to try and keep ram voltage below 1.5 for 1155 socket)
1tb 6gb/s caviar black 64mb cache 7200
Corsair ax850
Gigabyte SOC 480GTX (performs very slightly under a 580 for a lot less)

Depends on the quality of components they put in.
I’ve always built my own though with my last build I bought a pre overclocked bundle from ocuk
Mono CPU ram combo. Will probably buy like this again.
Buy a quality psu and case as these will be used for 3-4 builds. Keeps the cost of ur next upgrade down.

(Lomaso) #26

What Wattage do you recommened for PSU? It’s good practice to buy a PSU thats double the total wattage needed from the components?

(Wepohn) #27

It’s good to leave some headroom, a psu runs most efficiently when running at around 60% usage.

Corsair, Seasonic, Tagan, BeQuiet and PC Power and Cooling all make good psu’s

(Lomaso) #28

Ok, cheers folks  I’m hoping the prices of a few components fall before september :stuck_out_tongue:

(Wepohn) #29

Not sure by how much, what sort of budget are you looking at?

(Lomaso) #30

well all in? I will need all the accessories so, I am thinking, £1,200 - 1,400, dont really want to go over that!

(Wepohn) #31

That a pretty big budget. Here’s one that I put together quite quickly, it’s really powerful… pretty much nothing it can’t handle, the PSU leaves pleanty of headroom for an additional card later.

One thing, the 580 is better than the 480, it’s cooler and uses less power BUT the Gigabyte SOC 480 performs 1-5 frames per second less than a 580, costs nearly half the price and the Gigabyte cooling solution keeps it nice and cool.

If I were building a system I would go with that instead. I’ve left that for you to choose. Also I haven’t chosen a case as that’s kinda personal preference. Don’t cheap out here though, all those components demand good airflow.

Just realised that I forgot to add a keyboard and mouse. You can do that though!

(Lomaso) #32

Seems good mate! I know about the case, my last built suffered from that :S I have learned my lesson  Would water cooling be useful in that set up? Or would that be over kill?

(Wepohn) #33

Managed to get a similar build with Aria for £60 cheaper but with better RAM.

Uhm, Water cooling is good but expensive. You do get all in one solutions like the Corsair H50 but the don’t perform as well as a higher end cpu cooler. The Asus cooling solution on that 580 or the Gigabyte card both cool very well with their non reference designs.

If you wanted to go all out with water cooling you’d be looking at a case like the 700/800d or tj07

Really don’t see it being necessary though.

(Lomaso) #34

Ok, thanks mate  If you don’t mind, I may come back closer to time, and can show you the build before I buy? although I may just take your recommendations from the picture!

Hopefully see you all on PC in a few months, for the mean time, I wait until PSN goes live to play Brink online

I wouldn’t recommend water cooling. Long term problems are worse with leaks. Half of these new cases have so many fans that you can put in them that its not a huge loss.

(Hyrage) #39

i7 2600K instead…

(Shadedluck) #40

Figured I’d throw my 2 cents in. For the Graphics card, don’t go with the GTX 460. I had it, and within 2 weeks the memory on it died for me. I have this now though I didn’t get it for this cheap of a price, this is a fantastic price for this card, and it’s also a lot better than the GTX 460 IMO: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6078264&CatId=3669
