I did sign up for 1 month of file planet, hoping I can get in on the beta.

The reservations are for the Demo, which they list as unconfirmed, and there is no way I’m installing the ‘Download Manager’ - NEIN.

When I signed up on FP I did not know there might be a Demo. The only rumor I’d like to have confirmed is … will the Demo precede retail availability ??? I only signed up on FP to get the chance TO END THE PAIN OF WAITING !!! :smiley:

If you are a FP subscriber and reserve the demo, then you get a beta key. I am a subscriber and have reserved the demo. If you go to My Account, Beta Keys Archive, you will see your ETQW beta key. I am not %100 sure this is for the beta, but why would they need to give keys for a demo?

I went to my profile/keys archive and see the same thing. Its slightly misleading in that it says …
This will display any keys you have associated to the current GameSpy ID you are logged in with. The keys on this page cover betas, trials and other key-related programs we have run on FilePlanet.
Then says …
Program: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Demo [Reserved]

So which is it ??? demo … beta :?

They have demos for a few games that are wayyyyy out there. I wouldn’t be surprised if these keys were for reserving hypothetical demos that may very well come out after the release. In a fair world, having actually bought the game on pre-order would put you first in line for beta- but i guess dropping another 7 bucks on a site fabricated entirely out of banner ads is the price you pay for caring.

And whoever said bittorrent first on this thread gets the prize.

Demo keys would be needed due to the online nature of the game. If everyone has the same key then surely if someone was banned on a server then everyone would get banned with the same key?

Yep, true true. Anyway, the demo signup page everyone’s talking about will gladly give you a key for crysis, which is nowhere near being released. Meanwhile, GRAW2, which is very much an active beta, is not on that page. So, it’s safe to say that when etqw’s ‘mid-april’ thing happens, it’ll be on the front page and not in the carrot bin.

those of you signing up to get into the beta are not reserving the beta files. Its a demo of the game that will be released later. The key you see in your list is not even used once you download a demo. Think of it as a ticket number. I have reserved and downloaded many demo’s from fp, my list shows keys for all of them. Not once did I have to input said key to play online. Hope that clears things up for some of the new fp peeps.

Ya, thats what I assumed, that FP would not allow a queue for the beta, but would most likely do first come first serve.

I read today in the interview w/ Locki that the Demo will precede the retail launch by a few weeks at best. So if I am lucky enough to snag a spot on the beta, and this game doesnt launch for another few months, it will be the best 7bux I’ve spent in recent memory.

i think we are all well aware that its ‘itchier’ than the demo or the final build.
and while it might not represent the final game, whatever it does represent it a hell of alot better than anything else i’m playing right now.
