Field ops useless now?

Is it just me or does it seem like Lieutenants(oops I mean field ops) are useless now? Even while playing as a medic, I rarely ran out of ammo. If I did there was usually an abundant supply of discarded guns lying around the battlefield to pick up. Even if I have a Thompson and there is nothing but MP40’s I can switch over on the fly. Plus it also seems like with the new slower firing rates I get more bang for my bullets, so I can usually dispatch 2 or 3 enemies with the same clip, something that was unheard of in RTCW where a clip was emptied in a few seconds.

Of course Lie… field ops can still launch airstrikes, but with the lower demand for ammo, and his weapon selection now being limited to just the teams default SMG, I feel he will no longer be as critical to the team as in RTCW.

Not really useless imo. Just boring :stuck_out_tongue:

Medic and field ops are so boring compared to engi/covert ops/soldier classes :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah Engineer is cool now, he has so much to do.

Man calling artillery is now one of the most powerful things there are in this game, Artillery now fires eight shots to where you call it instead of the four in RtCW. By the time the art is finished your charge bar is full enough to lay down anohter set. You can keep chaining them over and over again basicly making certain parts of the map unenterable for the opposing team. If anything I think it’s too powerful at the moment.

I agree with much you guys said.

The artillery sound is awesome !

The field ops is kinda useless because other needs less ammo from him now. But as people become better and better that might change.

I don’t agree with the 8 strikes is too many. It might be just perfect or maybe not. In RTCW the artillery was just too weak to do some really damage unless you get really lucky or used spawn killing.

I really loved the artillery in one game ! It made it really difficult for the allies to proceed… that was one of the rare matches that was really difficult because the axis were so good… and I was new to it at that point.

So reading the above… it’s too early to tell.

lolz, ET is unbalanced atm and one of the reasons is the artillery. The only reason why you can’t notice that is that on most servers most people don’t know how to give artillery. Basically, a good defensive technique would be for axiss:

go out spawn,
ffe
mp40
/kill

and so on and so on. You gain rather much exp this way ^^
If nothing changes, people will start doing that on servers in one-two months.

It’s the same with assault in regular wolf. Took a few months before every allie started doing the ffe spam at gate area at start of a map. Only “recently” some bug-ffe was discovered actually, in which you have to aim in the air

Field Ops are greatly useful for artillery, and I as a medic still appreciate ammo packs at spawn.

Medics are great now, a maxed out medic is insanely powerful.

Engineers are obviously quite busy.

Covert ops have alot of uses.

Soldiers are more useful than they were before on fuel dump, but I personally don’t like the encouragement for so many people to use panzers :(.

(alexwryt) #8

Yeah panzer is quite annoying now, I was playing as an engineer on quake3.net server, the tank was in front of the axis gate, every time I stepped out into the open I was bombarded by no less than 4 panzers at the same time.

Field Ops are great.

I camped near this tree near the Ice, if you kneel down the branches will cover you and make you hard to see. (really, you should remove the branches). I camped there for 20 minutes as a level 4 Field Ops guy sending in Artillery strikes to the tank just before it could cross the bridge.

I got so many kills, and blew the tank it up so many times. They finally made it across the bridge when they got the whole team as engy’s. They never found out where I was. Plus, I could se behind the boxes to build the bridge, I could kill anyone who would try to build. 38-3 on 56k. haha

field ops own!

Unfortunately I beleive the instagib of the artillery fire before it starts to hit is too powerful.

The following explosions are fine…and I think the possiblity of higher classed feild ops causing larger explosions (cue larger air support?) when exp’d up is great, but the initial damage from the from the smoke shouldnt be as powerful as it is I reckon.

I believe all of the coverage you can get from the map is a good thing, the fact you never go spotted is coz you were playing with a lot of new ppl still finding there bearings.

The only bad side to this though is ppl who will tweak there config to turn the leaves and stuff off. Which will make it hard for ppl who play with default settings such as me.
