Field Ops is overpowered!!

zomg hax!!

And what is your motivation behind this thread, if I may ask?

(Top Cat the great) #4

It could be true. The reason for this is that in the recent gamespy preview of the classes it mentioned that he has a n80 assult rifle. THis is a change from the orginal machine pistol. The machine pistol is normaly a automatic pistol that fires a small calibre armour peicing round, effective up about 150m. It lacks the stopping power of a full sized SMG but is lighter and better at going through armour. This would be perfect for a feild ops becuase it would enable him to defend himself easiy and enage in short/ short medium combat. He is also designed to provied support and not fight in the very front line, he is already has the ability to delpoy a veriety of weapons and airstrikes and provide ammo. This abilies are in no way unique or special to him becuase most of the other untis alos have similar abilites e.g enginer -radar, medic - supply station.
But it is the simple fact of giving him a considerebly power weapons makes the field opp too powerfull!

I guess they know what they’re doing…

Allso remember that the teams are assymetric, so it could be a nice strogg-stopper.

(Wils) #6

The assault rifle is the standard GDF two-handed weapon, and he gets the absolute bog-standard version of it (no scope, no grenade launcher attachment). You might think of it as the ETQW equivalent to the Thompson (although MP40 would be more accurate).

(Gringo) #7

Does it look like the mp40 but sound like the thompson. That would be style!

I also feel that Field Ops are overpowered in ET, but I dont think it will be so bad in QW.

In ET, 2 Field Ops that are level 4 can effectively keep artillery on a area CONSTANTLY the whole map. In the tight confines of ET, this is overpowered - I have teamed up with another FO to take turns spamming artillery on the first bridge construction in Fuel Dump and the allies never built the bridge for example.

In QW, the field is much larger however, so I dont think this will be an issue.

Just curious. Quoting Wils from another topic:

he Medic doesn’t get a scope and grenade launcher for his assault rifle, that was reported based on an earlier preview build. He gets a standard assault rifle.

But look here (latest screenshot from gspy article:
http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/748/748377/img_3534357.html
Here it seems to have both scope and grenadelauncher. I hope they just didn’t care enough to change the model, but if it’s true, it’s not pretty.

Another thing: Infiltrator looks disturbingly similar to Technician/Meditek. I hope they will improve it. All other str classes look quite unique.

(Apocalypse) #11

That’s why we have ETPro yo! Sticky charge? Remember?

that is true that he has both scope and launcher but its clearly a medic on that picture, shock pads on the chest

i though medic had choice between launcher and scope?

(Zyklon) #13

Maybe it’s just old media?

Oh, and wasn’t the GDF engi supposed to get the gl and the GDF covops supposed to get the scoped rifle? I wonder why that isn’t mentioned.
But overally, it seems like the 2 sides are pretty similar, there aren’t as much differences as one would have thought to be.

(Black_Forky) #14

Other than the different weapons, models, skins, and abilities?

(Zyklon) #15

They have different skins, models and weapons, but the latters are rather similar and the classes are too, apart from some tweaks (stroyent or the repair drone for example). Or do you want to say that, let’s say the Obliterator from the strogg soldier is radically different from the rl of the GDF soldier, or the human assault rifle is the complete opposite of the lacerator?

(Bobes) #16

only overpowered class i see is the strogg equivalant of a medic. He gives stroyent which is both ammo and health in one go right? What a rambo meds dream.

(B0rsuk) #17

Spit that out !

(Strid) #18

looks like the Strogg Technician and Opressor will play very different roles compared to the GDF counterparts

Technician seems to be alot more defensive than Medic/Lieut, while the Opressor will be fully focused on high ammounts of damage instead of giving ammo, this will make the Stroggs be a lot more aggressive, once the technician is supposed to do all the job on ressuply

(B0rsuk) #19

It would be the opposite, actually. Think about it:

  • Technician needs fallen humans to replenish stroyent.
  • Technician has regular lacerator, presumably a capable weapon.

You don’t get near fallen humans by defending against snipers or shooting players from far away. You have to attack.
And if Technician can pick up his own packs, he has all he will ever need to go fully rambo. Even Wolf:ET medics are limited by ammo to certain extent. Strogg technicians may not be.
If I was on SD team, I would give technician one-time personal stroyent reward each time he messes with corpses (stroggification/extracting stroyent) BUT make it impossible for him to pick up any stroyent packs. This would keep Technician himself supplied, and prevent him from hogging all stroyent packs to himself.
