Field Ops and Friendly Fire

(Master'o'Covert Ops) #1

First of all, I know there are topics like this, but I want this to be a topic by itself. I never play field ops and here is why.

There are only a few servers without FF and they normally have 2/16 people in them. So the good servers happen to have FF, now everyone complains at me when they run into my airstrike. Why do the hosts have FF on if they hate it? With it off, there are no TKers or accidental deaths. I’m sick of losing all of my XP then getting kicked because the hosts have FF on then the idiots on my team run into the airstrikes. :banghead:

rtcw / ET or any other game sucks without friendly fire, i would never play without it as it’s really noobish, people have to watch their fire, i play field ops nearly as often as medic and i have some teamkills from time to time as well but not that many as they would give me problems
no offense, really but if you constantly get kicked of so many teamkills maby you should consider

  1. placing your airstrikes somewhere else
  2. save your ammo for teammates
  3. playing with an other class

Because with it on, a dozen nut jobs with flamethrowers spinning around is just an effective tactic as panzer-spamming all the live long day.

Playing without Friendly Fire removes any semblance of strategy to the game. If you’re racking up TK’s because people keep running into your airstrikes, you have a few options.

  1. Stop throwing airstrikes.

  2. Talk to your teammates and inform them that you are going to be throwing airstrikes, the general area you plan to be throwing them, and that you’re not trying to TK them, so don’t complain. If people are being TKed but not complaining, that’s not actually a problem, it’s an accident.

  3. If they continue to rush into your smoke, get killed, and complain, then tell the server what’s going on, and vote to kick them. If that doesn’t work, move on.

I have had very few problems with people complaining when TKed. If I ever get more than two complaints per map I tell my team that I am not trying to kill them, it’s just an accident. Since ET has started, I’ve never been kicked due to complaints. Frankly, it’s hardly the problem that so many people make it out to be.

TKs are inevitable, they are part of the game. There are only a few jerks who will complain at every single teamkill. Either ridicule them mercilessly with taunts about their ugliness or complete lack of facial structure, kick them, or leave. It’s not too hard to find a halfway decent server of people who won’t tolerate people who complain at every single TK.

I say leave it as is. Pretty soon the noobs will figure out that it is not good to stand in those pretty cloulds of smoke. If someone files on me when they walk under my support fire, I usually mention it open chat. If they keep doing it, call a vote to kick em.

I do wish splash would change the TK messages so it said ā€œmr. noob was killed by TEAMMATE SCDS_reyalP’s support fireā€ instead of just ā€œwas killed by TEAMMATE SCDS_reyalPā€. That would make it obvious who was stepping on mines or standing in smoke.

In any case, I’m pretty sure this problem will go away once more people learn the game. RTCW had almost exactly the same support fire and complaint system, and people running under support fire and complaining was not a big problem.

I don’t like any of the other options you offer. Turning FF off or making teammates invulnerable to support fire allows you to spam without regard to where your team is. Getting rid of support fire totally changes the balance of the game. Turning of complaints for support fire would also be bad.

Other: leave as is. I agree with all the points reyalP, MuffinMan and SubStandardJones have made.

Friendly Fire off = really crappy gameplay and also takes away some of the skill of playing the game

FF is part of the game… Heck Friendly fire is part of the world

Most casualties in Irak are from Friendly Fire. It is just a reality

(Formaldehyde) #10

Instead of complaining that people complain about your your lousy ASes too much why don’t you simply try to improve or play some role where you can’t endanger your team so much?

(senator) #11

from time to time teammates will get killed by friendly support fire but if it happended to often you should maybe check first before you toss your smoke cannister into a group of friendlies.

(kvilli) #12

U lack the option ā€˜Leave it as it is’ option from the poll…

(BlackDeath) #13

Says your the master of covert ops, why not stick to that class, where the only thing you can TK me is…

1.) Knife= If you do this, i will make your life a living hell…
2.) Sten= If i have more than 50 health, and im not a covert ops in disguise, your ass is grass.
3.) FG42= If you kill me at close range, fine, it has bad bullet spread, but anything more than 30 ft will be considered intentional (or a dumbass shot/aim, because u gotta be sniping over 30 ft., ill complain 4 both)
4.) K43, Garand.= If you snipe me, so help me God…
5.) Grenade= If i were u, judging by your sucess on airstrikes, i wouldnt use it…

So, looks like i would stick to my good old knife if i were u :stuck_out_tongue:

This game is so well thought out, balanced and obviously play tested by l33t h03s that ima have to say your suggestions are silly.

Join the "noob free server’ thread, b/c Im pretty sure youre blaming ā€˜the gun’ and not the perp.

And no, Im not a member of the NRA.
