Few questions about Brink.

(rekster) #1

Hey, this game looks amazing. Loving the art style of the game. Got a few questions about it though. (About the PC version)

-What is the fov for brink? Will there be a fov slider like in tf2? What about viewmodels?

-Will there be a brink. tv? Like source tv for source games. Will it be launched with the game?

-Will dedicated servers be launched with the game?

-Will it possible to change the HUD and change crosshairs (size, color, dynamics).

-Will there be a developer console?

-Fast switch between weapons (like in quake cpma).

-Will there be a lobby system?

-Option to disable windows mouse acceleration in game, also a standard mouse sensitivity bar. (just played avp and bc2, wasn’t fun with not being to adjust my sensitivity to what I want and the horrible windows acceleration/motion blur)

I apologize if these have been asked before, and thanks for your time.

cheers

Windows acceleration, what the hell is that?

(madness) #3

It accelerates your windows, what don’t you understand ?

(Ryan) #4

Windows has its own mouse acceleration…
Check the options for your mouse

(Qhullu) #5

people (like me) overclock their usb port and apply a windows registry hack(http://razerblueprints.net/index.php/View-document-details/80-AccelFix.html) to disable all acceleration from their mouse to get true 1:1 response in game. i still have windows xp installed mainly because i haven’t gotten around to fixing the mouse in windows 7. it’s not really up to the game though, the game just needs to not screw it up somehow.

-Will there be a brink. tv? Like source tv for source games. Will it be launched with the game?
probably not :frowning: at least not at launch

-Will dedicated servers be launched with the game?
yes

the rest would be just guesses for me, maybe someone else can help.

[QUOTE=rekster;214838]Hey, this game looks amazing. Loving the art style of the game. Got a few questions about it though. (About the PC version)

It will probably be adjustable with capped upper values. Viewmodels (or the showgun cvar as we call it) haven’t been mentioned but the ability to turn them on/off has been in previous games.

-Will there be a brink. tv? Like source tv for source games. Will it be launched with the game?

There was a TV for previous games and idtech itself seems to lend itself well to tv. The modders expertise will likely be there. I guess thats what you need to know - it’s more likely to be made by modders than the devs, but the modders are very, very good (shoutout to hannes)

-Will dedicated servers be launched with the game?

Yes.

-Will it possible to change the HUD and change crosshairs (size, color, dynamics).

Hud maybe, crosshairs certainly. Unlikely to be as customisable as the TF2 HUD.

-Will there be a developer console?

Almost certainly yes.

-Fast switch between weapons (like in quake cpma).

Fast switch like instantaneous switch? Probably not. I guess they’ll be using weaponswitch speed as a balancing factor.

-Will there be a lobby system?

Not had so many words about this yet. Its been kind of implied that there’ll be some way of organising friends as well as a server browser.

-Option to disable windows acceleration in game, also a standard mouse sensitivity bar. (just played avp and bc2, wasn’t fun with not being to adjust my sensitivity to what I want and the horrible windows acceleration/motion blur)

Do you mean mouse acceleration? Not a problem. Idtech uses directinput so you could even have mouse acceleration in windows and it wouldn’t appear in game.

Sensitivity will likely be adjustable with a bar in the ui and a number in console.

I apologize if these have been asked before, and thanks for your time.

HM, I’m actually one that uses mouse acceleration since quake introduced it. Low sensitivity ftw!

But I think ‘Windows mouse acceleration’ instead of ‘windows acceleration’ is a bit different.

(Senethro) #8

Yeah but the guy is clearly coming from a recent source engine background and windows mouse acceleration plays hell with those games so thats why I assumed he meant mouse.

And you should be grateful that there are some modern games that are trying to break you out of bad mouse accel habits ;o

(Senyin) #9

Mouse sensitivity bars never go low enough for me

-Fast switch between weapons (like in quake cpma).
I hope not

(rekster) #10

yea I meant mouse acceleration. My bad.

Im very picky with certain stuff like fov (need atleast 90!!), and prolly best without viewmodels, but I doubt there’ll be an option to turn off viewmodels since this game has ironsight.

I’m the same. ETQW had holosights instead of ironsights and with viewmodels turned off the crosshair didn’t vanish, so all that would happen when sighting was that your fov would change. No guarentees that the same will happen in Brink, but given that you can always draw your own crosshair on the screen, I don’t see why they would bother turning it off with sights anyway.

(Nail) #12

cg_drawgun is available iirc, FoV is normally (in id tech games) 90 - 120

(Rahdo) #13

Sen, thanks for literally channeling me. your answers were spot on

(sorry i’ve been away for a couple of weeks. and actually, i might have to be posting less in the future, as we’re all starting to crunch pretty hard)

(Floris) #14

+1 for the ability to use high fov’s, they seem to bring as much of an advantage as a disadvantage to players. They actually make games playable on 24" screens

I remember saying “wow I can see 360 degrees!” (not that that’s even possible) in a W:ET public and getting a kick vote against me

(light_sh4v0r) #15

You can do it in ETQW, believe me it doesn’t let you see more. Well, maybe you will see more, you just will never know you see more, because it looks crap
Try it out, it’s funny

(INF3RN0) #16

I like using the lowest FOV because I have such a huge res on my laptop. Makes it much easier to see my crosshair and aim it more precisely.

(PSG_Mud) #17

this might be an odd question, but, anyone know if SMART can be done manually?

(SockDog) #18

Yes, Crouch and Jump at the right time and the effect is the same as holding the SMART button. Well actually it can be marginally better if your timing is good.

(AsyluM) #19

The reason why rekster’s questions are in depth are because we are competitive players the “hardcore ones”…
As many people call it we like to know the ins and outs of a game.
We are actually on the same team for a competitive l4d2 squad called 50Calibre.
Anyways ill cut to the chase…

The multi-player aspect of the game…

Will it have multiple multi-player modes?
What is Splash Damage’s thoughts of an competitive community?
Does Splash Damage see a future in lets say www.cevo.com posting tournaments for Brink?

I apologize if these have been asked before, and thanks for your time.

cheers!

(DarkangelUK) #20

Instead of apologizing, search instead. You say you need to know the ins and outs, but it more looks like you need to be told the ins and outs. Do some research yourself instead of leaving for others to tell you, for example the MP questions… that’s like the whole focal point of the game where SP, MP and coop blend and the lines are blurred. Every magazine, webazine, website and simple first look mention that part.
