Few questions about Brink.

(H0RSE) #21

The reason why rekster’s questions are in depth are because we are competitive players the “hardcore ones”…
As many people call it we like to know the ins and outs of a game.

Yeah, because only “hardcore” competitive players want to know all the information they can about a game…I am definitely NOT a competitive player…in fact, I despise competition. It’s one of the reasons I don’t like sports. When I play a game, I play for fun. I will be a team player, and play the game correctly, but I’m not playing to win, I’m just playing to play…if i win, that’s just a bonus. After doing some reading on the game, Brink is now my most anticipated game of 2010. So what am I doing until the game releases? I am working on a Brink general info thread, comprised entirely of information I found myself in interviews, previews, articles, forum posts, etc. If you are so “hardcore” maybe you should do some research of your own. If it helps, here is the thread I am working on. It covers a lot on the game.

Oh I see the problem, this forum is for the non-hardcore ones that have no interest in the ins and outs of the game. There’s a hardcore forum just for the competitive players in which the game is discussed in full detail.

I think you might have a misconception about the reasoning behind competitive gamers having interest in forums. Do you think that competitive gamers play competitively in pubs? Of course not… we want to make sure that a game is truly balanced and not simply a mess of perks and such, so that it actually works. Competitive gaming takes place on a separate scene, usually modded, and the only problem in a pub is that you might be matched up against someone who is better at a game than you (they might not even play competitively). The reason why I think competitive oriented questioning is important is because 80% of the time it focuses directly on the issues affecting game play. The casual gamer might not care about the technical stuff, and only ask for good graphics, big explosions, etc. I wouldn’t even refer to competitive players as a single group who plays to win or plays in competitive leagues. Really the majority of the focus is oriented around maintaining balance, ensuring that game elements work, kicking the devs in the head to make sure they always spend the most time ensuring the game runs smoothly, etc. A lot of people care about these things whether they are competitive or not, but unfortunately there is a bigger group these days that could care less. So if you care about those types of issues above the rest, then your a competitive gamer yourself even if its not official. I don’ think that Asylum meant any offense, except saying that he’s had experience in a different way, but the point is he cares a lot about how the game will actually work, and I know it can be hard finding it among this spam fested forum .

Again, this is the forum for the non-hardcore players, the pubbers who are diametrically opposed to truly balanced game and simply want a broken piece of shit to play.

The only option would be to release a non-balanced pub version for these pariahs and a balanced, well functioning game for the elite comp players. The latter is being discussed in the hardcore forums to which us dumb pub pigs have no access to.

Unless you did read the rest of the post, I might take you seriously . Competitive doesn’t mean you play a league… it means you care about something more than looks and rewards.

(tokamak) #26

Yes, this is the looks and rewards forum, we also care about how big and flashy the explosions are. We no comp, we dumb.

Now im sorry if I offended your ego

I merely asked what splash damage’s thoughts on competitive brink.

Yes, competitive players are very technical and no we don’t need a balanced game l4d2 is sure as hell isn’t we deal with it just a few questions here and there…

Don’t worry about competition. There will be a very good modding crew working on this game first of all. This won’t really compare to L4D in most ways, but I would suggest looking at QW/ET for a good reference :).

Like I already said, Yeah, because only “hardcore” competitive players want to know all the information they can about a game…

Where is the hardcore players’ forums then? Not seeing separate section here for them…

This is a forum to discuss Brink, hardcore or otherwise…

  1. right now, we’re focusing all our efforts on making our core ‘objective-based class team multiplayer’ approach awesome, so we’re not going to be having straight deathmatch modes or anything like that. we are working on different play list settings though to support different types of players (i’ve talked about it in the past in interviews, how there’s ‘standard’ match settings as well as more ‘hardcore’ or ‘pro’ ones)

  2. supporting competitive players is important to us. these are the guys who are still making wolf:et as popular as it is today. so while we are trying to make a game that appeals to a much wider audience of players than our previous ones, we’re being careful to not forget our roots

  3. we love this kind of stuff, but it’s too early to comment, hopefully more info soon (i know, i know, i’ve been saying it for months, but i still mean it! )
