Few problems with ET on Linux

(JereManU) #1

Hello,
I’ve installed ET recently on my Ubuntu 9.10. It works fine (excluding black frames after playing some time), but I’ve got three problems.
Well, sound don’t work for me. I tried it http://nullkey.ath.cx/~stuff/et-sdl-sound/ but it works only for one time, after restart PC I need to do it again and again. There’s better solution?
Second, after some time playing ET when I open command then my PC froze and I need to do hard restart… My friend fixed it on KDE in same time when he fixed the sound, but I use GNOME.
And the last, I’m looking for working ET minimizer for Linux. I can’t find something working for me. Even https://wolfet.vexer.info/how-to-install-enemy-territory-on-linux didn’t work that well. Can you help me, please?
Regards,

I assume Ubuntu uses ALSA, but ET needs OSS, so maybe you need the ALSA OSS-emulation package? (or the alternative alsa-oss. I’ve not tried that one though, so don’t know if it works with ET) I also remember having to edit /etc/asound.conf once, but it’s been a long time since I used Linux so can’t remember exactly…

Regards,

What I did was run ET windowed at the monitor’s native resolution (so it covers the full-screen), meaning all the keyboard short-cuts worked (minimise window / change between virtual desktops etc) Of course that means you’ll need a system good enough to run ET smoothly at the monitor’s native resolution…

Doesn’t work for me… I googled all the web and found some solutions and now sound works something, but only something, really weird.

Well, I tried this for example Alt/Ctrl + Enter and it mnimizer for a few seconds and I can change the descpot, but I can’t do anything. My mouse frozes. Maybe there’s another solution? I don’t think really I can work with another linux that ubuntu.

Anyway, my biggest problem at the moment is lags/blackframes. When I play some time it starts to lag me as hell and game shows a lot of black frames, I feel like watching movie from 1905. But I’ve got many more black frames and black quadrats on my game monitor. What can I do to make my game works correctly without that problems? Please help me.

I installed Kubuntu the other day and what worked for me was :

sudo modprobe snd_seq_oss
sudo modprobe snd_mixer_oss
sudo modprobe snd_pcm_oss

Then restart system.

Not sure about your other problem… all I can suggest is getting the most recent graphics drivers, or maybe try switching desktop effects to “None”.

Thanks, about sound it works more often now.
And disabling Visual Effects helped me, too. Now I’ve got very rare that blackframes. Anyway, there’s any solution like this one, to disable all not needed features like this Visual Effects?

You could try to disable screensaver.

And you could try to install oss-compat for the sound problems.
