They’re not forced to play as a man if they don’t want to. They can also just not play. And the target audience of Brink is gamers (out of which a minority are females that make an issue out of this) not the entire population of Earth.
female avatars or more male customization?
You’ve got to be a clown to not realize that the amount of potential buyers who’ll boycott the game if it doesn’t feature women is an extreme minority. You’ve also got to be a clown not to realize that including female avatars would cost a lot of money, and would occupy a hefty part of the memory budget.
And you have to be a smug “I’m alright jack” to realise that despite all that, some people still want it. This isn’t about whether it should be in Brink, it’s about shouting down anyone who asks for it and talking to them like shit/idiots.
Sorry, that arrogance doesn’t sit well with me. Actually it sickens me that gamers who were a geeky/nerdy minority are so quick to turn on another group of gamers rather than support them.

Oh the irony. It’s a tiny minority who’re demanding a disproportionate amount of resources to be spent just for them. It’s quite rich to call the rest arrogant then.
Practicalities aside you’ve got to be a clown to not realise that the planet is 50% women. That those women are going to ask the simple question, why am I forced to play as a man?
You know because “traditional gaming” said Nintendo was doomed to failure with the Wii.
Very valid reasons have been stated why they cant play as a woman, did you miss that part? I do how ever like how it’s the males that are standing up for the women, I think i’ve seen one female say that they really want female models… but again that was on the premise of calling SD sexist pigs so there you have it, the other i saw said she couldn’t really care less. You’re like those PC people that feel they need to get offended on behalf of others, even when they aren’t directly affected themselves.
It’s exactly the ‘get over it’ attitude (between the lines) from some
on here that is maddening.
Not the fact that Brink won’t have female models.
Only one person here gets that.
I voted for female avatars.
The customization is really great, but after all this is an
First Person Shooter, not a First Person Shopper

Well what else can you say to people who keep inserting this subject in other conversations at every opportunity?

We’ve gotten confirmation straight from the developers’ mouths that female models won’t make the cut, so what else can we do than get over it? You’ve got to be realistic here. Calling people names while turning a blind eye to the facts won’t make things on your wish-list magically appear.
I’d gladly support your cause if it would make the slightest difference – I’m not trying to censor your opinion at all.
I’d go for Female Avatars.
It’s impossible to put in the game now though, but as stated above, it would make a great DLC pack.
Just because one developer can include female models, and another can’t is based on these 4 factors.
- Budget, more money means that female avatars will be included
- Goals, the game is meant to be a certain way by the developers
- Target Audience, who will most likely to play the game, and who must be sacrificed to satisfy the other 3 factors
- Hardware Constraints, how much a game can have before a machine can’t handle it
Online FPS games will most likely have female avatars if:
- developers have a large sum of money to start with
- Developing female avatars won’t impede on their goals because of hardware constraints
- That not developing female avatars will sacrifice a large portion of willing buyers
I will ask out of curiosity? How many female soldiers are there? How many female athletes are there?
Now how many female gamers play FPS games or are fan of FPS games? How many females play Sports sims, or are fans of sports sims?
Israel’s force has the most women, but if you want to draw links to women in video games then you need to look at combat roles and there really are very few women in those because of restrictions applies in the army.
nah, I’m just doing those comparisons and the irony that there are more female athletes than female soldiers… I think, which is why I am asking, and that there seems to be more female FPS gamers that female sports sim gamer, I think, which is why I am asking that too.
So some female gamers or male gamers whine about how female avatars are underrepresented in a FPS game, when in real life, there are not a lot of female soldiers in comparison to female athletes, but yet, they don’t whine to EA sports or 2k sports to include the WNBA in their basketball games.
That’s the thing that I have observed.

Sorry if I offended, I was bladdered when I wrote the last reply so perhaps not the greatest choice of words.
Not once have I seen SD be dismissive, short, rude, aggressive or demeaning towards anyone asking for this. In fact they’ve always been quite apologetic as to why they didn’t do it.
Yet it seems, armed with this “official explanation” people on here feel justified in doing the exact opposite and ambushing anyone who expressing their opinion. That is pretty childish if you ask me.
For the record this isn’t my cause. I’m male and am largely indifferent to the inclusion of female avatars. I just think that in the appropriate threads people have every right to say they want feature X in the game and perhaps discuss the idea without being treated like [insert derogatory term] just because people can.
Edit: I’ll leave the subject there as I’m repeating myself.
Not at all. As you probably can see your somewhat bellicose behavior is not quite unlike the one displayed by those of the opposite side of your fence. Having to clarify time and time again that something isn’t going to happen to more-or-less deaf ears can be somewhat fatiguing, which in turn leads to a hostile tone.
While I personally don’t care all too much about female models, I understand those who do. My advise would be to let Bethesda and SD know that there’s a demand for this to be added in the form of a DLC pack as there’s really no way we’ll see playable female characters on launch day. No amount of polls and new threads will change that.
