female avatars or more male customization?

(Tystys03) #21

Being a male gamer, I obviously can’t speak for the females, but the few female gamers that I do know could really care less which sex they play(in fact, most actually like being able to play a male over being a female)…it’s always mainly us dudes that have a problem with either playing or not being able to play a female. I don’t think it’s an issue of them being acknowledged more than the sexist view many video games portray on them.

Anyways, if the developers saw fit to not add them in for more over all customization then so be it. It does essentially take away from complete customization, as there are generally a lot of males and females alike who do like to use Female avatars, but I’m sure it’s not going to be a huge issue with anyone.

i dunno… yet if the game is played by some of the female species…
then i cant see no reason not too inc them in the character list.

because if i turn it arround, i would like too have an male character too pick from.

(INF3RN0) #23

Not a bad idea, but leave it up to the modders I would say.

I wouldn’t care either way. If there was a story explaining why there were only females in a game, I wouldn’t care and just play as a female…take the Sisters of Battle in WH40K…I love playing as them in Dawn of War, even though the universe is predominantly male. The way I see it, adding female characters would add nothing significant to the game. If they were in, cool, if they weren’t, I don’t see it as anything to cry about. The same goes if Brink was all females.

Well thats a good point, yet the females are also represented in x quantities, on the consoles.
Xbox has very strict rules about Mods, and user generated content, PS i dunno.

So in other words Gals on the console would miss out on such content?

I curious to see femal character with this Designe

(i hope is very more easy to modding on Brink compared to ETQW).

(spazski) #27

I hate to say it but I’d rather have more male customization.

(DarkangelUK) #28

Read this, be merry… come back when you run a development company before saying ‘it’s not that much work to add them’ etc etc

can’t imagine “Oh Dear” by female voice in game
oh wait, taunts dropped

My mrs stopped gaming with Doom 1 and only got back in to it when I made her play L4D. Since then she’s chucked a tanty when she doesn’t get to be Zoey or Rochelle (nah not really, but she would rather be them).

But making her play COD:WAW and Killing Floor, she has now accepted that she has to sometimes be a male. Having said that she was greatly disappointed when I told her Brink is Male only.

This game is TF2 meets Borderlands meets Mirror’s Edge on crack! Can’t wait.

I say that no female models for the game is very sexist especially for women who like to play FPS games. My girlfriend personally being one of them. Now if she plays she will have to choose a feminine man. Guess gay models are ok though.

(H0RSE) #33

I say that no female models for the game is very sexist especially for women who like to play FPS games.
Perhaps if the reason they left females out was because they are biased towards women, and feel they are inferior to men, then maybe it would be sexist, but when the reason comes down to having to choose between having both sexes and less variety, or one sex and tons of variety, it all comes down to what is in their and communities best interest…I hardly see it as sexist.

lol, I wonder, why does EA nor 2K include the WNBA in their games? But considering the percentage of females who play sports sims, so yeah.

Remember how I said something about separating your conscience from your game character, and just be the person that you are, that is behind the computer? And therefore, you won’t feel bad that your game character does not represent your outward physical appearance?

I know of only one way, where a game character represents you. It takes only 2 steps.

  1. Be a fan of EA or 2k.
  2. Play in a professional sport, typically in the major leagues.

Actually, female athletes are best represented in games, like I dunno, sports sims that have female athletes in them.

But I will ask out of curiosity? How many female soldiers are there? How many female athletes are there?

Now how many female gamers play FPS games or are fan of FPS games? How many females play Sports sims, or are fans of sports sims?

being a female in the u.s. military i WOULD appreciate a game like this with female characters. i own COD and play it ONLY because its fun. i didnt and still dont like the fact that i cant choose a sex but in most games unless the lead character is female us female gamers only have 2 choices: get over it and play or get another game. not to sound sexist  but most games are created by guys and guys are the target customers. if they wanted to put female characters in here they wouldve been in the trailer and demo clips. if there were as many girl gamers as guys this topic wouldnt even exist. in the end they wont care as long as they get their money and they wont care which sex that comes from. no woman in her right mind wants to be a man in any way.

(Joe999) #36

there’s already been such a stupid thread and it’s locked. why do you start a new one?

(DarkangelUK) #37

If i were a dev i’d be insulted by the ‘aslong as they get their money’ comment, it’s been clearly stated the technical limitations and additional cost and resources required for it which completely outweigh the very small benefits it provides (which are none, just people want it for personal reasons)… but hey lets just blame guys and live in ignorance.

(SockDog) #38

I don’t understand why you are taking such a narrow minded view on this.

There is no technical or resource issue that takes precidence over possible revenue. So basically the game doesn’t have female avatars because it isn’t financially viable or “As long as they get their money”.*

Sorry but just because female gamers are in the minority, it doesn’t mean their voice should be any less heard.

*Let me just say I appreciate there is only so much space on a DVD and memory to load assets. That said compromises are made all the time so I don’t buy it would be impossible to do if there was the money there to justify it.

(DarkangelUK) #39

I don’t think it’s narrow minded at all to believe that there’s not gonna be some sudden rush of female masses buying a game because it has a female model in it, and the ones that do buy wouldn’t cover the additional costs spent on creating it. How is that an unrealistic view? Workload would be doubled, there’s costs involved in that, SD have a specific goal in their design, and female models wouldn’t achieve that goal with regards to customization and technical limitations… there are some developers out there that aren’t all about the money 100%… some want a game be as close to their vision as possible.

(SockDog) #40

Practicalities aside you’ve got to be a clown to not realise that the planet is 50% women. That those women are going to ask the simple question, why am I forced to play as a man?

You know because “traditional gaming” said Nintendo was doomed to failure with the Wii.
