This post isn’t about complaining over the map Favela, it’s more pointing out various things I’ve noticed.
I love Favela. It’s a great change up to the more expansive maps in the f2p arena and gives a lot of opportunity to enjoy playing against a squad that isn’t basically one big sniper rifle.

That being said, there are a few things that bug me. Having played Favela a ton, I’ve noticed that more often than not the upper hand tends to go to the player who just gets the first turn. What I’ve noticed from that, is that the player with the first move also gets the starting point with more options/more cover. For example the side gets the bus to hide behind where the other side gets a poorly placed plant a few squares from the choke point into the capture zone that only gives red cover. .

Basically, if the player with the first move moves up their soldiers to max, the other team is forced to move into an immediate defensive position well behind the choke point, where they are then subject to being pinned in their starting area because the other team can then move into the capture zone or set up and drop a deplorable cover in the choke.

I know people are going to think differently about how to handle that situation and someone will have their supposed “flawless” tactic to counteract this type of situation, but I don’t care. I just want to know what the community thinks about what Favela has to offer as the only real close quarters battlefield for people who aren’t paying for map bundles and expansions.

Good post! We’d like to hear more thoughts on this as well.

Favela is absolutely unplayable if the opponent has a specific set of toons, and your opponent are to go second. They would either face multiple blocking manuevers, or totally crippling toon skills.

The spawn is so small any toon skills(fire, concussion, Frag, orbital) can hit multiple opponents easily unless the toons are all spread out on the very edge of every corner of the map. On this map there is also no covers to hide safely. The only cover there is, is a red cover box. The high wall intended as a good cover, also is useless in 26pt games where any toons behind it gets constantly Orbital strik-ed. To make things worst, hiding behind the high wall is also movement restricting, due to the boxes that one have to go around to get to the SINGLE exit lane.

Sure you can try your best to spread out to avoid all the crippling toon skills, camp in your spawn and spam on heals. But this map is unfortunately also terrible for fending off toons in the spawn spot. Not only does the spawn defending requires a sniper, you have to be yet again be behind the orbital strik-ed high wall. Which by the way is also an extremely useful and good full cover for any opponent toon on the other side. It is also impossible to evict that harassing toon behind that high wall as (if you can even walk into that path of death) you cant either artillery or frag that toon out for your toons in spawn to attack. Even banking on light toons does not help, as it is a a long stretch of choking path to get thru.

Basically, if you are to go second, the opponent has got movement enhancing gus, and its a high tier game, one might as well shoot each other and die rather than to squirm hilariously with mass heals trying to tank it out being stuck in spawn, or hopelessly attempt to force a rush through that single narrow path and get cut down like hot knives thru butter.

I think it has potential but to stop team leaving spawn area pretty much like camping is not much fun. By the time you rush out or got stuck in spawn area majority of time you have lost firepower to survive in open.
Again Ill say this, why do all the maps have to be exactly same on both sides?

Favella will a great “melee only map”

(Ciakgb) #5

I have two tried and true ways to win going second at Favella. Extensively tested it with multiple 40 level dudes.

See ya at the tourney!!!

(Coup_de_grace) #6

Yes on low tier games its still playable, but on high tier ones… With twin gus twin Ivans ~.~, hardly

(Ciakgb) #7

I only play forum people these days, I actually prefer to go second at Favella. I don’t think you’ve ever recovered from my meagan mine first move, but your definitely psyched out!

(Coup_de_grace) #8

You may have a setup worked well for you. But would it have worked if you played the map differently? You have to remember not everyone out there has a full set of toons like you do. How would they work out without being high level enough to have orbitals, Gus and Ivans etc.? The average billy and joes only got Daves, Petes, Angelas and Suds. Thus the flexibility of the map is limited. At least at Old town one still have space to move around, thou its a prime sniper map, you can still go about without snipers. With a small area, limited line of sight and movement restriction at Favela, there isnt many choice of cards one can throw down.

Tsk…the thought that you remembered that YOU were the one that won is exhilarating, when it’s I-DONT-KNOW-WHO that got his three megans blown off in a go and gave up.

(Ciakgb) #9

Actually it was in a forum post where I showed my first move meagan pics from Favella that you went on a tizzy about this same subject, mr. Memory.

As for the poor, poor noobs, they should pay there dues in 14 and 20 matches like the rest of us did.

For all the squawking about snipers, this is truly a game changer map, a perfect match to old town and definitely one I always enjoy playing both sides of.

This will blow your mind, coup-- what if a noob goes first? Would there be sound?

(Coup_de_grace) #10

Ciakgb: I just lost three Meagan’s on turn one to Coup…frail indeed. How about a 250 hp buff?

Coup: well, you know you should hav stayed in cover Three megans?? woah, i wasn’t gonna let them run amok wrecking havoc… clumping together just made it even more tempting to do a triple kill >.< my bad… no hard feelings

Go and read your own post. In the Advance Strategy thread. Don’t make this more foolish than it has to be already.

This post here is a show and tell abt the restrictive Favela map, for people to give facts and opinion about the challenges they face going second. This is not a TELL-YOUR-SHOW. You got it in your grasp to hv control in that map good for you. But you are not giving any facts, and only mocking the rest of us with your extensive “testing of preference to go second” that makes no statement of prove how it’s not disadvantageous to go second.

(Ciakgb) #11

The thread was called, “meagan is back” where I revealed my initial Favella strat. You said:

"Re: Meagan is back!
I hope this doesn’t trigger a massive surge in Megan usage, or i foresee way too many mines being deployed in a similar fashion by way too many people. Without or even with an engineer, it would take way too much effort to clear or destroy and will be a massive delay to any opponents that starts the game second. If an engineer is present it would also take multiple reveal unless detecto-sweep is within abilities selected. Lets also not forget if detecto-sweep happens to be deployed ON the mine itself, the mine will detonate and possibly destroy the detecto-sweep beacon.

Now that Megan has receive quite a buff, i can tell it would be subjected to such abuse…
“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” - Sun Tzu (The Art of War)"

As you can see, you had a tizzy about abuse and Favella then. This is what I was referencing. It is actually YOU who have brought up twice now your win in our one throwaway one move game, who is obsessed with themselves?

Kin and I have actually extensively discussed the various Favella issues in yet another thread, there has never been any mocking, and lots of people said they liked going second at Favella. As for revealing my top secret strategies, I give away plenty. We do have a tourney starting, you know…

Anyway coup as you can see your not reading very carefully, and I reserve the right to continue to highlight your ignorance in the future, regardless of what you think threads should be about.

(Ciakgb) #12

And while we are clearing the air, I play Megan because she reminds me of my wife. Imagine how I took this little gem of a coup quote:

“She thinks she is hot, but she really is not, in fact if you just stare at her a little longer you will come to see the resemblance of a faun.”

This is the sloppy coup I don’t like. Big, grand statements like, “Favela is absolutely unplayable” or “Basically, if you are to go second, the opponent has got movement enhancing gus, and its a high tier game, one might as well shoot each other and die rather than to squirm hilariously”

And btw, what the heck is “advance strategy” anyway? I was going to give you a pass because you have to share an iPad with your younger brother I assumed you were 14 and live in your mother’s basement, but I see from your profile 1) you are 22 and 2) you have no friends.

So. Here’s my advice to you, you are obviously a very black and white thinker, if you should want to continue telling us all about “advance” strategy, try to incorporate some different play styles than your own.

And skip your impressions of which toons are hot…

(Coup_de_grace) #13

It’s really pointless saying anything more to you. Again and again you are inputing pointless feed and directing more personal attacks.

(Ciakgb) #14

I guess your exhilaration is gone. You started it by bringing up that game again and turning it personal.

To be substantive, if by blocking you mean dumping one of those big, dumb concrete blocks at the choke, thanks for the pillbox!

Also, you are on the field first, but where am I? You can squirt your Ivan’s till they drown, but you can’t hit what isn’t there.

Finally, you are not the only one with Ivan’s, Gus, and orbital. 90 percent of the time there are ample targets gathered at the choke.

The original post (which wasn’t yours, bet) referenced the lack of cover in the rocket zone. Even if you get one of your slow Ivan’s behind the rocket, he is easily dislodged by artillery.

In conclusion, Favella is playable, a great map, and a wonderful balance to sniper maps.

Qed

(Sandman77) #15

I love Favella, you never know how the game will play out… If I loose its fine, its a game, i have fun PLAYING…

(Nail) #16

lol, love the e-drama, game must be awesome

(Ciakgb) #17

Come play, Nail! I agree, Sandman, if its not fun, why?

Speaking of fun, I achieved this nice little position going second at Favella against a 40 level who will remain nameless about thirty seconds ago…because its all about you know who, I won’t tell you I’m red:). There are no more blue toons than shown.

Ps, he tried to block the choke too…

(Nail) #18

if game comes to Android, I’ll prolly join

(Crozzton) #19

Is there a bus in favela? Dont thread starter mean lapa? Or am I blind?

(Ciakgb) #20

It wouldn’t make too much sense then, I thought he meant the rocket it’self…he’s right about the one crappy cover square in Favella that takes forever to get too. Who knows, glad it’s blown over,
