False Video Driver Hack violations from PB

(JonDoe) #1

If you see anyone being kicked for a “Video Driver Hack”, don’t automatically suspect them of cheating. I was being disconnected from servers with the message “Server Disconnected for Unkown Reason”. I connected back to the server and asked someone what the disconnect messgae said and someone told me it said “Video Driver Hack”. Well I immediately emailed EvenBalance and they replied and told me that there is an incompatibility with the server patch 1.01, and the PB client. I had installed the server patch, so I reinstalled ET and haven’t had any problems yet. They said that they’re not 100% sure that this is the problem, but it fixed it for me.

These are the responses I got from EvenBalance:
>> What violation number are you getting?
>>
>> If it is 90002, please extract the attached ZIP file
>> and use it
>> instead of the et.exe you are using right now - it
>> is most likely 1.01
>> which was a server-side only patch and is not
>> compatible with the
>> current PB client at this time.

>We were also unaware of this incompatibility until recently - we are
>not 100% sure if that is the case yet, so let me know if this solves
>it for you. Thanks.

It is now posted in the news section on Evenbalnce’s site. Since it’s now confirmed by Evenbalance all those servers can feel free to unban me.

Version 1.040 of the PB Client for ET has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. We have confirmed that the latest ET Server update patch released on June 26th by Activision may cause #90002 violations in PB Clients version 1.039 and prior for players who are using the server patch as their playing executable. Version 1.040 released today corrects this problem. We advise all PB Server Admins to give the benefit of the doubt to players and ignore #90002 violations raised between June 26th and today, July 11th.

Could this also have been the problem for many people who have had game freezes etc and it may well now be fixed ?

As remember some people all they had to do was type “pb_system 1” and all was fine, which to me suggests something or other to do with PB.

What exactly does “pb_system 1” do anyway ? It looks like you’re manually turning PB on hence “pb_system 0” would be it off ?

Im still leaning towards believing that not everone experiencing game freezes/errors had the same problem causing it

PB is a bitch, we pay a high price in headaches to keep cheaters out.

Thank you (my name is NOT Nigel people belive me in that). I’m afraid I will have to answer my own question about PB though as you lot are all stupid fucks :

PB_System [0/1]
PB can conflict with other software on some systems due to vigorous memory scanning; Changing this setting may reduce or eliminate conflicts if you have problems on your system; this setting can only be changed before connecting to a server
