This has really been bugging me. As a very Security-biased player, I’m naturally going to want to play as them most of the time, and, based on the character customization system, it seems like I could make a character strictly for Security, much like MAG’s PMC system or Battlefield Heroes’ factions.
However, I’ve been hearing about the factions being chosen randomly for you in matchmaking, like CoD or Battlefield. In those games, it isn’t a big deal, but with Brink’s amazing story, with no clear good or evil, it takes away from the story. I just wanted some info one way or the other.
Faction Loyalty
In campaign mode you’ll stay as the faction you choose, stopwatch you will switch ABBA style.
Say your ideology isn’t in line with harvesting the human race for their nutrients and turning them into cybernetic zombies, would you have a problem with playing a Strogg in ETQW?
I’m all for the harvesting myself, we have a bumper crop, the zombies, not so much. Too much competion for the crops
It’s less ideology than getting forced out of a character to play on a faction I hate both aesthetically and story-wise. And this is Brink, not ETQW. Any of you who play MAG know what I’m talking about in terms of faction loyalty.
I hate the Nazis both aethethically and story wise. But if you want to role-play, by all means go ahead.
I definitely support the idea of role-play servers.
Yes I love MAG but faction loyalty is aggrivating (slightly less when you work as a clan), tho i don’t think we will see as much since your not chained to one faction with your character, they have a set of weapons and clothing that can be changed easily depending on who you want to play with, also the way the story is set up I’m not sure how biased you can get since its cops vs terrorists or freedom fighters vs soldiers and I would want to play as either of them
I can understand the prefernce for playing one side vs the other where the two sides are assyemtrical (strogg vs human), but don’t get it when everything is the same like it will be in Brink. I guess I don’t get into the story enough (not a single player game kind of guy).
That said, I do understand wanting to play either offense or defense since I tend to like playing offense more than defense, but that’s kind of a different thing.
Seems like you are limiting yourself and are going to miss out on a lot of things if you favor one side over the other.
See some footage of security sliding and what happens to him:P

Whoa whoa whoa, are you serious? You telling me this dude isn’t fashionable?

It sounds like you’re obsessing over the dress up doll instead of the team-based play. By playing both sides you will balance the teams and contribute to the social and tactical success of a match. This game is not an RPG and the story is not going to be very involving. Your character is fully customized for either side. There are not faction exclusive abilities or weapons. It’s still your preference, but I think you’re going to end up fighting the natural design of the game.
please quit telling people how to play an unreleased game. They may decide on playing, to take a different course, but you inferring you already know how to play is starting to bother me.

Its like you’ve entered my head, and extracted everything I wanted to say.
I not only play games but study them. I’ve played thousands of hours of ET and have watched all the Brink videos many times. Thanks to H0RSE I think I have a great understanding of what’s to come. I’ve stated several times about my belief in Brink being a paradigm shift.
There is a similar stupid thread like this in BF3 forums, some guys is afraid to play on the terrorists side.
Playing just one side won’t get you 50% off the whole price you know.
Yeah you shouldnt play the way you want man, I mean cmon, video games arent about fun! Its serious stuff!
This made me smile.
Is it bad that I like the Resistance outfit at 0:28 in the video better than the options in the game?
Hugo Boss is boss. And he was a Nazi.
