Expected System Requirements

(da.newb711@gmail.com) #1

Hello all. I’m not looking for exact requirements, but more for whether or not you guys think my PC, actually a Mac running Windows, can run this game (I’m new to PC games for the most part). Sorry for this being such a newbish question.

These are my system specs:

Intel Core Duo 2 GHz
1 GB ram
ATI RadeonX 1600

I know I have enough hard drive space unless this game takes up 40 GB :weird:
Thanks in advance.

If that cpu is Athlon, then you are ok.

(Basic) #3

If its a mac its not an athlon cpu. the official requirments for the game are’nt out yet. but everybody seems to think that if you can run doom3 you can run quake wars. You should be fine as long as your processor is an x86 intel one and you are not running windows through a virtual environment on a PPC G5

(da.newb711@gmail.com) #4

Thanks. My computer can run Doom 3. Thanks a bunch guys. I was worried that I might not be able to play ET:QW.

(ktr) #5

Well the best way to find out if you can play ETQW is if you can play Quake4…according to all interviews, they said that minimum specs is gonna be in the Quake 4 ball park. And I have seen quake4 played on sktA 3200+, with 1gb of memory, and a 9800pro…

I don’t think D3 is good comparsion, imo Q4 is more demanding than D3, and QW will prolly be a bit more heavier than Q4.

I hope Quake wars can run smoothly in medium to high graphics with a LIGHT EDITION graphics card. I know, bad mistake at my part and no, I’m not upgrading. Quake 4 already runs fine on my comp on high. Doom 3 on ultra. So I guess quake wars on medium for me, damn wish it can run smoothly on high, but I’m not taking any chances.

You need a machine capable of searching forums.

(Nail) #9

the main difference between D3 and Q4 specs is RAM, D3 is happy with 512, Q4 likes 1 gig, get 2, everything will be alright

(murka) #10

it isnt hard to run down to your nearest store and say “plz gimme 2 good 1gig rams”

(signofzeta) #11

My comp has around 1024 megabytes of ram, so basically over one gig.

I heard ram must be 2, 2 squared, 2 cubed, etc so the pattern is 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256(my old comp) 512(my laptop) 1024(my new comp) 2048 etc etc. I have a 1024 megabyte ram and I hope I don’t have to go to a 2048 megabyte ram to run quake wars.

The only problem for me is the videocard so the game will definitely run, but not smoothly.

(murka) #12

i have a very expensive piece of ram, 1gig kingston pc3200 ram that cost about 250 dollars.
my laptop with an integrated intel graphics card has 2gig ram

(Mordenkainen) #13

Just a little correction, 1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte

I heard ram must be 2, 2 squared, 2 cubed, etc so the pattern is 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256(my old comp) 512(my laptop) 1024(my new comp) 2048 etc etc.

Not really, your total ram size doesn’t have to fall on those values. For example, my old Pentium 133Mhz had 24mb of ram and my current secondary computer has 768mb.

Anyway, right now my educated guess for QW’s minimum system requirements is:

P4 2.0Ghz (or equivalent)
512mb system ram
Radeon 9500/GeForce FX 5700

Because of some comments by the devs, I don’t think the low-end GF FX models (5200 through 5600) will be supported but in general you could say that any ATI/nVIDIA DirectX 9 level card will do it. Which means almost all new systems bought in the last four years should work.

Well it better be like that considering I have a st00o00oooOOpid LIGHT EDITION video card. It is a nvidia 7300 LE video card. Call of duty 2 is choppy. NHL 07 is also choppy, and Madden 07, the players are see through, maybe because those two game are from EA sports.

If Doom 3 runs fine in high, and Quake 4 runs fine with average 20 frames per second, will I be able to play quake wars with decent framerate?

What is a decent framerate? For me, as long as it isn’t a slideshow, it is fine by me.

(murka) #15

ram atleast 1gig

(Basic) #16

if not running virtual windows then 2gig at least

(SKaREO) #17

Well I have a PC at the office with an FX5700 256mb video card, an AMD64 3000+, and 1GB of RAM. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best computer for this game, what would you rate it?

Heck, it runs these forums really smooth…

(ktr) #18

i give it a 3, i think the thing that is holding you back is the video card.

The 5700 gets around 750 in 3dmarks05 which is quite sad. A simple card such as the 6800 or the 7600, would be around 4000… about 4 times better, and around 100 bucks.

(Nail) #19

I’d rate it a bit higher, but try the Q4 demo on it to find out for sure

(ParanoiD) #20

I would rate it a 3 as well… The card isn’t better as my 9600Pro which ran Quake4 horrible. I must say my CPU is an 1800+.

Quake wars minimum probably:
2GHz CPU (athlon xp 2000+)
512-1024MB ram
Radeon 9500>/GF 4>

My recommend specs atm:
3GHz CPU / AMD K8 based CPU
1GB RAM
GeForce 6600(GT)>
