[quote=“NXA-Orellien;18194”]For this weekend, starting at 18:00 UTC, Friday, September 25th and ending 17:00 UTC, Monday, September 28th, the prototype game mode Execution will be available for play in marked Dirty Bomb servers, with both the Overground and Canal maps playable. This mode is designed to be a good jumping on point for Dirty Bomb, bringing in a familiar style of gameplay, but maintaining Dirty Bomb’s unique flair.

Event Duration

  • London (BST, UTC +1:00): 19:00, Friday, September 25th - 18:00, Monday, September 28th
  • Los Angeles (PDT, UTC -7:00): 11:00 AM, Friday, September 25th - 10:00 AM, Monday, September 28th
  • Sydney (AEST, UTC +10:00): 4:00 AM, Saturday, September 26th - 3:00 AM, Tuesday, September 29th

Changes

Since the last Prototype Showcase for Execution Mode, a key change has been made: There’s only one bomb. The highest level Engineer on the attacking team (and the highest level player if there’s no Engineers) will be given the bomb at the start of each round, who can carry it themselves to the objective to plant. They can also pass it onto another teammate, using ‘6’ to switch to the bomb and using primary fire to throw it at your buddy.

Be warned, though. If you’re killed with the bomb, one of your teammates is going to have to pick it back up with the ‘Use’ command, and may need to deal with the same incoming fire that took you down…

About Prototype Showcase

Dirty Bomb will always have something new in development, and whether it’s a new map, mode, or something else there’s no replacement for the kind of feedback that our players can provide. As such, we will occasionally give limited sneak peeks of upcoming content in its prototype state, in order to ensure that it is of the highest possible quality when it is fully released.

Please remember that these features are in a prototype state. While everything should be playable and largely functional, there will be bugs, there will be imbalances, and there will be parts that are clearly unfinished. For this test, Execution Mode’s only map is in a Blockout status, using placeholder textures instead of full ones, and we are looking forward to what you think of this very different way to play Dirty Bomb, so please experiment and try out bizarre strategies.

About Execution Mode

In Execution Mode, teams are trying to win the most out of 12 rounds. To win a round the attacking team needs to eliminate all enemy players or bomb one of the objectives; for the defenders to win the round, they have to stop them.

Execution Mode is played out over 12 rounds, first to win seven wins the match. In each round, the Attacking team is tasked with planting and defending C4 at one of two bomb sites, while the defenders must stop them from doing so, be it through defusing planted C4, or just killing anyone that tries to plant a bomb.

Win Conditions

A round is won if:

Attackers

  • The attackers kill all of the defenders
  • The attackers destroy one of the two objectives

Defenders

  • The defenders kill all the attackers and no C4 is currently active
  • The defenders defuse a planted C4 before it goes off
  • The round time expires

The first team to win 7 rounds is declared the victor for the match, ending even if all 12 rounds have not been played. If each team wins 6 rounds, it is declared a Draw. Individual rounds cannot end in a draw.

Team Sizes

Matches will be 7vs7 for this test.

Match Time & Rules

Each round has a time limit of 2:00. If C4 is not planted at one of the bomb sites before that timer expires, the Defending team wins the round. Only one C4 charge can be planted at a time, and the other bomb site becomes disabled once it is planted.

Once killed, players do not respawn until the next round. Players that are incapacitated but not finished can still be revived or helped up to continue fighting.

Half Time

After 6 rounds, the attacking and defending teams switch sides.

HUD

The objective HUD is in the top left of the screen and shows:

  • The round timer
  • The round number
  • The number of players alive on each team
  • The number of rounds won by each team
  • If the bomb has been planted
  • The bomb’s fuse progress

It’s here execution weekend is here go and play before it’s too late

Gawd dammet this isn’t Counter Strike

I would be excited, but a few issues right off the bat:

Giving the C4 to the highest level player seems a little biased, because it will obviously be the same person again and again. I understand you don’t want an absolute newb to have the bomb, but it is just an odd solution.

Also locking this to 7v7 seems like a terrible idea.

This is the part that throws me off hard.

Be warned, though. If you’re killed with the bomb, one of your teammates is going to have to pick it back up with the ‘Use’ command, and may need to deal with the same incoming fire that took you down…

You need to press use to pickup a dropped bomb. Not simply walk over it.

My concern is this: How long do you need to press use? A quick tap? Hold it down? How long?

I guess we shall see.

(Amerika) #6

Oh I think it is now!

I don’t think I’ve played a single round of Execution so far.

(FireWorks) #7

Finished my first round and enjoyed it

Obv we had no engs, so i was carrying the C4 all the time and it felt great. People were following me and that instantly created a feeling of teamplay. We were focussing on our team and not some dead objective. Cool thing.

Lets see how this turns out in more games.

PS: 500 credits bonus!

(MarsRover) #8

I’m level 22 and in Objective/Stopwatch I’m the highest level like 50% of the time. So I’m gonna get the bomb a lot.

Free 500 credits are not convincing enough?

Oh its not that bad quite fun actually (atleast the old versions haven’t tested it this time sofar).
Obviously stopwatch/objective mode is the primary mode and it shows. But for a non serious change of pace now and then, its fine. The merc abilities and team compositions is what sets it apart from CS to be honest.

The change to a single bomb is propably for the better hopefully this ensures that the game becomes a bit more about the objective and less single life TDM.

(Faraleth) #10

Probably something people should bear in mind is that these are TEST weekends for a reason :stuck_out_tongue: they have made some quite drastic changes since the last iteration of the game-mode and will no doubt change more depending on our feedback. As people have already noticed some possibly problems right-off-the-bat, it’s fair to say this won’t be it’s final form.

Let’s just see how the weekend goes

(Amerika) #11

Oh I’m sure it will be fine. Just not a fan of a small dev team splitting dev time and map making efforts when the bread and butter mode needs more maps and love. Also, I’ve played tons and tons of one life per round games, especially ones where you plant bombs, and I don’t play DB for that.

All jokes aside I do like that there is a bomb now even if it’s not an original idea.

(SereneFlight) #12

I think it would be better if the bomb was given to a random player but Engineers had a higher chance to get it.
Edit: Actually prioritize bomb to Engineers but when there’s more than one Engineer, give it to a random Engi and a random player if there’s no Engineers.

1st. The balance from what I saw is horrible in these matches, every match I have been in was or my team getting rekt or the enemy get absolutely demolished.
2nd. The bomb to one player is kind of a bad idea since I was playing and this level 4 aura that doesn’t even revive just walks right past the OBJ to die 10 seconds later. I had to switch to an engineer to get it off of her hands
3rd. I don’t like how you have to be on one of the wait, what are the sharpy things that are on the ground that come out of the OBJ called? basically I would like to be able to put between them.
4th. More of a map complaint, I have noticed that, there are no good vantage points on the OBJ. Every postion could get easily flanked (and while it is with every one of the OBJ’s that you can get flanked with these they are too easy.
5th. Phoenix’s self revive, I understand that it his signature but cmon it is annoying to deal with especially on Execution especially on his free rotation.
6th. The timer, 2 minutes. You give us two minutes to move to the other side of the map while dealing with Aura nests. Nope.
7th. The insta finish offs. Usually they are annoying but agreeable in OBJ/Stopwatch but in execution Fragger’s nades have no right to insta finish me off with the amount of skill NOT needed to arc them.

For now this is all.
It is all opinions and you could disagree but those are the things that pissed me off.

I was definetly confused when I saw the selection appear without seeing the news. I like the new changes brought along, especially having only one bomb on the team; definetly going to push for more teamwork that way.
Now I’m not too sure about it being on highest-level only, I think simply letting it be in the hands of any engineer at all is the best choice, regardless of level, if there are more than one, switch between them randomly - if no engineer is available then it’s simply randomized between the whole team.

I’m curious to see how it’s going to be with having to press Use to pick up the bomb too, I’m more a fan of just running over it but this is definetly an interesting choice the devs made.

(LifeupOmega) #15

DB:GO confirmed. ResidentSleeper.

(crabbyWaltz) #16

I think we should get more xp from this game mode. I mean, I was playing on it and after 4 or 5 games I still couldn’t get one mission that normaly take me 1 or 2 games to finish.

(SereneFlight) #17

It says that the bomb will go to the guy with the highest lvl but just had a match where I even wasn’t the guy with a highest level and wasn’t playing Engineer merc (nobody in our team was) but I still got the bomb every round.
Not sure if the guy with the higher level than mine joined after 1st round but if that’s the case, I would suspect that the bomb would go to the guy with the highest score since I had that title through the whole match.

Edit: Here’s a little moment we had today in Canal.
We went to the site A, couple guys dead from both teams, bomb planted, rest of the team comes to defend and enemies started swarming in from all directions.
Personally I was trying to keep Phantom and Aura away who were coming from behind while firing nades to keep Rhino away from front.
They didn’t manage to break through so they kept poking 'till they finally managed to break us but the second when their Proxy tried defuse, BOOM. It… was… AWESOME! (would have been even if they had time to defuse)
Haven’t really have this much fun with the game ever since the first Comp match I played.

(Yes) #18

Missions don’t progress properly, damn. I got over 4.5k support XP in one game and it only counted ~500. Game XP missions are also messed up.

Yeah, it goes to the highest scoring engineer. If there is no engineer then it just goes to the highest scoring player.

(Yes) #19

OK, there needs to be afk prevention. In all my games this test weekend, there has been at least 1 person afk.

(neverplayseriou) #20

Terrible game mode, it doesn’t fit dirty bomb at all and takes up half of the objective servers…
