Excuction animations?

(Icemonkeyjr) #1

So i know when we kill somone in brink they are incapacitated and it takes more than that to actually kill them, so do you guys think there’ll be some brutal knifing animations?

I mean if there was it would be fair as the time taken to do the finisher you could stop the dude form killing your team mate. and if you successfully execute a finisher then you could be rewarded with slightly more xp?

I personally would like to see something like this in brink. however we’ve had no info at all for quite a long time now :frowning:

I don’t really care about the violence but I can imagine the novelty wearing off really fast, like in Gears of War.

But that’s just speaking about the animation. A short pause to premeditate a one-hit stab is interesting.

ETQW has this for the coverts, standing behind an enemy and pressing ‘use’ would land an instant killing stab. Just without any extra animation though.

hmm very true

(tokamak) #4

Also, personally I rather like to see as much actions just be stored in the ‘analogue’ feel of executing them by aiming and such, not the ‘digital’ feel of moving towards object and pressing x button to execute Y action. As little canned stuff as possible.

(Icemonkeyjr) #5

hmm, i just hope it dosnt take 12 clips to kill a downed enemy like in kill zone. not that i play it often i just remember that being annoying.

(tokamak) #6

I hope it does take a lot to kill a downed enemy, as long as the melee punch does it instantly.

(Icemonkeyjr) #7

hmm well that would be okay if melee would kill them i suppose

(Cankor) #8

They said it will take a lot of bullets to kill a downed guy and they want you to get close and personal to gib.

Well, in the SMART Preview where Wedgwood takes us through the airport, when he jumps down to ground level (yes, I have all the Brink videos memorized by heart lol) he talks about the whole game being controllable and you never go into a “cam animation,” or something like that. An assassination like Halo Reach is probably not gonna make it in the game.

(LyndonL) #10

Canned animation. He means that there won’t be for example things like climbing up ladders where once you press go it locks you in until you get to the top.
A melee kill to finish someone off will probably work much like a melee in almost all games where it still does the action and animation, but the action only lasts 0.5 second so it’s not really canned per se.

Brink!=GTA.
Brink==ESRB rating “16 or less”, at least.
but topicstarter CAN create mod for such [sily]puposes, i guess.

(Icemonkeyjr) #12

I just find it a little unrealistic how a already incapacitate enemy cannot be killed with a shot to the face. though we dont know yet, but yeah a melee or knife attack should defiantly kill em.

(Cankor) #13

Assume you mean “cannot be killed”. Gameplay must always trump realism unless you are trying for a perfect simulation, and if you want that there is always Red October. It should Go without saying that there’s hundreds of unrealistic mechanics in most FPS’s, including Brink.

(DarkangelUK) #14

OP sounds VERY Halo Reach with assassination animations if you melee an enemy from behind.

(Icemonkeyjr) #15

Im not referring at all to halo i hate it, anyway either way brink is going to be win.

(tokamak) #16

Do you also have a problem with players that stand up after their 20th self-administered adrenaline shot?

(Icemonkeyjr) #17

Lol, that made me laugh

No im not nagging the unrealism, i was merely curious as to how totally killing someone is going to work and if anyone knew

(tokamak) #18

Yeah we do. Lots of bullets for the corpse, melee is instant. It’s a very fine feature considering the importance of incapacitated players in the game.

(DarkangelUK) #19

Doesn’t matter what you’re referring to (or your feelings towards it), it’s still in Halo Reach and popular enough that a lot of gamers relate assassination animations with that, and the type of community they are would shout rip off.

(DepressedOptimist) #20

I’m almost certain they showed a downed player getting shot to death. It only looked like it took five shots, too. But then again I don’t even have a clue which video I might have seen that in.
