Exclusive Gameplay Video from Games Convention 2006

strange thing is that when the www.enemy-territory.com incident was and a lot of people were pissed off, i wasn’t because i thought i kinda would understand the reason. but this new action does it for me. so if planetquakewars would leave the videos on the server, what would they do? not send info material anymore to a fan site? these vids were made by fans for fans. and there were a lot of SD guys in that room. why didn’t anyone say anything? those guys made the vids for people like me who can’t travel around the world to see their future fav game. and now activision forbids it? this sucks, tbh.

@Hakuryu: link works, i just tried it and the file goes down with full speed. and i just watched that vid again, it’s foogging awesome

There’s loads of videos around from QuakeCon and E3, and not just from the big ‘corporate’ site’s who might have got permission first. Anyway, there can be no assumption of privacy when the video was recorded, and nothing to suggest the video could cause any confusion with any trademarks, so I dont see how they can have any basis, legal or otherwise, to make any demands.

Obviously you can choose to remove it out of respect of a polite request, but I’d suggest trying to respond to the email and seeing whats up.

(Wils) #23

Can anyone who got an email from ‘Activision’ PM me with some details (preferably the email and the originating address at least)? Unless this is some GC regulation I’m not sure what the deal is here.

(U.K.Visuals) #24

i will PM you with the details of this E-Mail

(GlobalWar) #25

Wils FTW

(Wils) #26

Got PM, thanks. Will see what I can find out tonight/tomorrow. I wasn’t aware of any filming restrictions in G|C, and never saw any signs, so I’m none the wiser as to what has transpired. One possibility I can think of is that because it was shown in an age-restricted area, publishing the footage on German sites could be prohibited somehow (which might explain why quake-wars.eu hasn’t had an email - you’re in the Netherlands, aren’t you?).

(U.K.Visuals) #27

nope, we are located in switzerland!

thanks four you help Wils!

(Wils) #28

Huh. I’m at a loss then. Check PM please - got another small request

(Nail) #29

hmm, think I’ll keep our QW section on hold for a bit, will try check what we are allowed

(Rhoades) #30

heh, that’s ghey.

(GlobalWar) #31

We are in the Netherlands yes.

(SniperSteve) #32

Lets hope its just an age restriction issue… Thanks Wils… <3

(Nail) #33

well, we would love to see any video, even off a phone of new gameplay, to us fans the quality wouldn’t matter as much as the content, but…it was mentioned to me as well as posted here somewhere I think that the graphics for the E3, QuakeCon build didn’t seem “finished” as they probably weren’t, possibly Activision doesn’t want the game seen in anything but the best quality as future customers might just judge it on what we post as videos, average joe usually only gets to see officially released screenies and trailers to get an idea of game before retail/demo release, we are blessed in that we get to see a lot more, but as mentioned, we would watch anything to do with game and be happier than tapirs in a poppy field

(bebar) #34

btw, some french website received the mail too.

(kamikazee) #35

I’m glad that Wils is on to this… What is going on in the Activision ranks? Don’t they realize they could be killing community sites which could make their game even more popular?

(Svanire) #36

I also know in the THQ booth (for the demoing of supreme commander) people were told to by the THQ that no cameras were allowed. This was seemingly unknown by the actual developers.

(Nail) #37

would YOU buy a game based on a YouTube video ??

(Joe999) #38

dunno who you mean with “you” but i did so with god of war. in fact i immediately bought the game after i’ve seen some guy’s video remix on youtube

(Black_Forky) #39

Wow, that was the same reason I got that game.

(wolle) #40

we’re back!!!

we d like to say a very special “thank you” :notworthy: to Wils for taking care about the misunderstanding between the activision-german-guys and us.

it’s not a matter of course that someone like him takes care about the community sites and their “problems”
