[drupal=713]Eurogamer Expo: Invasion of the Interviews[/drupal]

Coverage from Eurogamer Expo continues to explode onto the internet, delivering an extraordinary amount of new Brink interviews today. But wait, there’s more!
The chaps over at Destructoid managed to film Brink Game Director Paul Wedgwood playing the game for a good four minutes, showing off some Container City gameplay, as well as character and weapon customisation. Elsewhere, both Rock, Paper, Shotgun and Gameroni have great new hands-on previews of Brink, as well.
And now, as promised, today’s Ark-sized stack of interviews:

“What are you doing here?
Wait … did you get an invite? This is a private party, and you didn’t get invited! Have you been clicking things you shouldn’t be? Naughty boy. NAUGHTY BOY!”

 what?!?!?!? :stroggbanana:

There’s some great game footage in the Sarcastic Gamer interview. What really got me fired up was the simultaenous movement and combat you can see there, very nice and fast paced running and gunning, just what I expected to see in Brink and haven’t really seen much of previously.

Yeah, I don’t know what happened to the MyInsideGamer interview, but it was good (I had printed it up a couple of days ago). They asked some great questions, and Exedore gave some great answers. Hopefully, they will re-post it.

BTW, I agree with Rahdo about not including the K/D stats. At the very least, don’t include a k:d ratio stat because it will be the dominating stat that almost all gamers will see and think about - even those that normally wouldn’t care. It is that powerful. Personally, I hope that Splash Damage goes all the way with their genre R/evolution and doesn’t include it. My two cents.

Great interviews, Splash Damage!

Odd about MyInsideGamer, indeed. I’ve removed the link for now - hopefully the piece will reappear.

3Suns, can you scan the copy you printed and post in the forum?

I’ll give my 2 cents too.

Instead of K/D ratio as main focus to compare statistics between the players, the principal comparable statistic should be O/DD ratio, aka Objective / Damage Dealt.

Is this any good idea?

(LyndonL) #7

That won’t work because they’re not 2 comparable items and therefore you can’t get a ratio unfortunately.

A percentage of the overall teams coop actions contributed by you might work and push the coop line though?
Ie I did 18% of all the coop actions including revives, buffs, resupply etc by my team so my score shows 18% at the end.

You’r right…it’s a mad idea

You should make 2 versions of Brink, one ETQW-esque, other what you already trying to make - rewamp W:ET. Maybe game gets too big, 2 DVD’s but worth maybe.
And pay attention to textures, now they are artifiacialy blured, so aka to make harder to see opponent. Make it more natural. Yours graphix designers overtried themselfs.

(DarkangelUK) #10

Speaking of mad ideas…

(Apples) #11

Like they gonna do 2 games in the last 6 monthes of the project o_O

(_Megabyte) #12

@Apples yea, they can :wink:

(DarkangelUK) #13

I think it’s more fair to say, they won’t.

(_Megabyte) #14

ETQW was greatest invention in shooters universe, from old skool rooms & corridors to something new.

Current Brink state is step back.

Only reason why ETQW not worked, is not visible ego, everybody wants to make most kills.

_Megabyte has left the building.

(H0RSE) #15

Except that RTCW MP and W:ET did it first, and better.

(DarkangelUK) #16

You still have ETQW… its not like that disappears after Brink is released. Utter pointless asking for a remake of the same game.

(_Megabyte) #17

to Horse, best MP is/was quake 2, that’s out of question.

K/D stat is a curse on objective team based gameplay. It is appropriate for deathmatch style games, but not for games like Brink. People will still want to see it so just make it private as it will be less likely to influence their behaviour that way.

If they must do it, then maybe make it so it just shows up for the class that is supposed to kill alot, i.e. the soldier class.

“A percentage of the overall teams coop actions” is pretty much reflected in your XP. Of course its weighted by what SD thinks is more important, but someone has to weight it. And since they are already ranking by XP…

K/D is always bad, for one it might discourage soldiers to put their life on the line.
a soldier on the front lines is better than one always staying behind because he doesn’t want a high deathrate…

Yes but you realise that each death+gib can potentially take you 20 seconds to get you back into the action. Meaning that by having a high death rate, you potentially leave your team with one man down most of the time. This has a domino effect on the rest of your team.

This is the reason k/d is ONE of the many stats people look at. Most however see it as something to brag about, without the understanding of its value.
