that’s exactly the case.
i’m on c2d E7400, gf8800gts, 2gig of ram and sb audigy on alsa as well.
seems it’s sound problem, i think unloading the sound module from kernel and running promod then would “fix” it but i won’t play without sound
duskmod doesn’t have this issue, so comparing how it’s implemented in the duskmod and promod in order to fix it would work but having this problem described good enough as for me the promod’s author should be able to fix it then (if it’s not dead project already). who would accept promod’s fix if it didn’t came from it’s author.
edit: using slackware but that doesn’t have matter in this case ;]
