etqw unique ig-name vs community.enemyterritory.com forums

(Snoofer) #1

there is the big deal about the unique names

and on the other hand everybody can reserve every name in the official quakewars community board

did you forget this when starting the community site?

theres still time to flush the forums database

HUH ???
:?

(DarkangelUK) #3

Forum names have nothing to do with actual ETQW names, all it asks for is your tag if you have already reserved one.

(Snoofer) #4

when u got to www.enemyterritory.com you can choose between the normal page and the enemy territory community

for me (and for many others) the community forums will be the main aspect on the official community site

in an interview locki said about the unique name feature: “if you see the player named locki, you can be sure that this is THE paul locki wedgewood”

or: you preordered the game and reserved the name “darkangel”, what do you think if I register the name darkangel on the official community forum?

to quote locki:
“if you see the player named darkangel, you can be sure that this is THE darkangel known from the sd developers forum, but it is not the user darkangel on the forum, because somebody else was faster”

(DarkangelUK) #5

You’re kinda proving my point for me. The player named Darkangel is Darkangel, not the forum name.

Trust me, forum names have nothing to do with ETQW names. If someone registered Darkangel on the forums before me… it wouldnt stop me being able to use Darkangel in game cos ive already reserved it. Reservations have been going on long before the forums were active.

(murka) #6

nobody will use murka10 and no need for reservation :stuck_out_tongue:

(cheesecake) #7

Man that would so be worth the money to get another copy to get that name before you :stuck_out_tongue:

(Snoofer) #8

i think you dont get my point

if the unique names are established because of the recognition ig and in the stats, why not for the forums too? both statistics and forums are community features
in the video interview locki said something about the comparision with your friends

my point is that your forum name should match with your ingame name, that you can pm somebody you recently fought
if you fight the player Snoofer you know that its me, if you look for Snoofers stats you know that they are my stats, why exclude the forum?
its like loosing focus 10m in front of the finish line

the only possible answer to me is that they wanted to open the forums to everybody, not only the game owner, but for that there may be other possibilities

im just a little disappointed because when i read (or saw? dont know in which interview it was) about SDs plan to form a community over player names and not just some numbers (ever searched for a certain counterstrike player?) i was realy excited to see this well thought out feature made by a “its done when its perfectly done” team
and now this feature looses its perfection

or have we blame activision and not sd?

(DarkangelUK) #9

There’s a seperate section in the community forums user cp to enter your ETQW gamer name, and that’s whats used to track stats. Your actual forum name has no bearing on this though.

(Nail) #10

there’s no one to blame for anything, you have 4 names on that forum, they may or may not all be the same, there is a place for forum name, ET:QW name, and xfire and xbox live names

Thats gonna be my new name :D

(kamikazee) #12

Good, so he can use Gringo then?

(murka) #13

mhh, Gringo. sounds cool, k i will use it if i cant get murka10

(badman) #14

This was actually considered, but isn’t feasible.

If both names are tied together, how is registration going to work? Will you only let people post on the forums that have pre-ordered the game and thus arbitrarily throttle the amount of site activity?

Or will registering a forum name automatically reserve the in-game name and thus take away one of the incentives to pre-order the game? If so, some, scratch that, most people will have absolutely no interest in posting on the forums, so why should we create “dummy accounts” for them?

What about people who register a forum account now, but don’t buy the game for one reason or another? They’d just “hog” in-game names that would otherwise be available.

The whole idea sounds great at first glance, but to implement this on a site that has to launch before the game just isn’t feasible.

(BondyBoy007) #15

see, SD aren’t silly

(grizzlybear) #16

am i right in thinking that when qw goes live you will be able to tag your gametag to your sig (like xfire ) or it will link to your stats page on the small icons under the avatars

@snoofer change your name slightly (eg: .uk, .usa, .ger, **, /=)
if somebody has already taken your gametag

(M8DNanite) #17

Maybe he is former WoW player, i think they have forum users same as player accounts.

(badman) #18

see, SD aren’t silly

…I resent that, we’re extremely silleh! Especially on Thursdays!

(Gringo) #19

Whats does a community relations managers job description entail?

(ir) #20

Presumably you tread the fine line of political answers. Oh and ban unwanted people…
