ETQW support for clangaming?

(RX|marrafakka) #1

Will ETQW have focus on clangaming? Alot of clans are looking forward to this game, including my own, and I’m curious about if there will be any sort of replay and spectatormode available?

It will be of great importance for the game, concerning the length this game lives, if you can give sufficient demorecording (replays) and possibilities to set up “ETQW-TV” (spectatormode). This game is eagerly awaited by players, players who per example skipped BF2 because it is a lesser good game, are looking forward to ETQW. The guys who arranged the Battlefield 2 World Tournament are looking to arrange an Enemy Territory: Quake Wars World Tournament. So therefore I ask, if work hasn’t begun yet, for a clanfriendly environment such as mentioned above.

Demorecording and spectatormode is very important to games now as e-sport is getting more and more popular. I think, if done rightly, that ETQW has potential of becoming an incredibly popular game for e-sports. Don’t do like EA did with Battlefield 2 and turn a potentially “very good” game into a game full of bugs and moments of irritation for us clangamers.

We are the future for gaming, so we’d like some love from a company.

Best regards from marrafakka of ResurrXion, a future ETQW clan.

Hmm, I’m looking forward of ET:QW Pro and ET:QW TV from bani and his team.

By the way, I’m looking forward to seeing how the Battlefield-players match up with the Enemy Territory-players whenever the game will be released.

(senator) #4

Oh, that’s easy, the BF player will take over the roll of target dummys for the ET veterans

(jimb0) #5

Great! I think SD should hire you to do their gameplay design. Tell me more about the potential it has.

(Floris) #6

There was an article posted saying the SplashDamage team had something like ET:QW TV being created, I think…

(RX|marrafakka) #7

Gameplay design? Nah. Help them see what is needed for a good clangame as well as a fun public game? Hell yes.

Clans are going to complain regarless of how many features will be in the finished game.
I personally couldnt care less about wether the game suits 6v6 or has a TV replay feature.
If it like it, i’ll play it. If i dont i’ll go elsewhere.

I recommend posting specific feature requests in this thread - at least then we’ll know what you consider important, and you’ll know that we know. And then we’ll know that you know that we know, so we’ll both know. It’ll be great.

Based on posts in comp community forum boards, the comp scene seems to want dumbed down graphics and 5 minute, non-lotto maps, that have super straight forward gameplay.

The format/number of players will be decided by when the game is released so that doesn’t matter yet. We’ll whine about that later.

Shared opinion:
ETQW TV or a good demo-function is not only important, it’s necessary for the game to be liked by clans. Also you need accurate weapons and a good netcode that can handle pings up to 100 without having packetloss or similar and good collision mesh coding. It needs to be easy, but not too easy to play. Spectator mode also a good feature for having radio-broadcasts etc.

Personal opinion:
Sadly, I have no experience from previous Enemy Territory games so this is all seen from Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2 and Counter Strike: Source-eyes.
You need accurate weapons when moving such as seen in Quake and the original Battlefield series, but they can’t be point blank accurate. There must be an element of burst control such as needed in the Battlefield series, especially Battlefield 2. I think recoil-based accuracy would be highly popular as this will definately take skill to do.

Have easy access to radio commands for public play. VoIP can be an idea unless it has potential of ruining the netcode of the game. You need to support programs such as Ventrilo and Teamspeak.

What else? For public play, have a good way of chatting and avoid tons of spam in it such as the sounds in Battlefield 2. The original Battlefield-series had a good way of binding the community closer to eachother. The chatting could be done without it being mixed in with alot of spam. Counter-Strike: Source also does this fairly nice.

I’ll bring up my ideas as they pop up in my head.

Depends on what game you have seem. As far as I can see, the gameplay here will be a mix of Enemy Territory and the Battlefield-series. I’m pretty sure I’m wrong, but it’s a guess I got.

Graphics can be as good as they want, but don’t give the people who use bad graphics an advantage over the ones that have good graphics, such as in Battlefield 2.

Lotto-maps? Please explain.

The gameplay in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars seems to be good judging by the map which is released/leaked, and alot of people agree with me. It’s good to have something else that Capture the Flag, Demolition and running back and forth capping flags.

I always think this when someone comes on with their ideas abot what QW should be but have never played W:ET. Download, install and play W:ET and don’t compare to BF ever again. Thank you…come again!

From a league standpoint, please give people the ability to communicate with each other while browsing for games to play. A multiplayer lobby interface where players can chat and look for servers at the same time. This really helps to connect people and allows online leagues to organize tournaments inside the game. Keep people within the interface (in game or not). I’ve mentioned this in another thread =)

Thanks SD.

(kamikazee) #15

You would need some system of choosing a lobby then, since you can’t make a world wide lobby and a local one might not be your favourite.

(ayatollah) #16

No need to bring this stuff in as third party developers deal with this situation perfectly fine. Xfire for chatting to friends and browsing favourite/common servers, ASE for browsing all servers and to filter to your tastes, Ventrilo/Teamspeak for voice chat. I can’t see the game functioning any better with these options built in.

A ‘Q rose’ system like the one in bf2 would be great especialy for the more common statements e.g. “need medic”. It saves time and is a lot more user friendly IMO.

(RX|marrafakka) #18

Ayatollah:
I think it’s a shame that I haven’t played any previous Enemy Territory games. My history is in BFV and BF2, so I’ll compare any game to that. It’s like comparing masturbating to sex after your sexual debut. You move from home and you compare it to where you came from.

(nUllSkillZ) #19

W:ET is free.
So you can try it anyway.
Great game BTW.

Best game ever= ET
