How does the chances look for this? I have heard some say that you don’t own the game, so it’s not feasible. But with the upcomming release of Doom3, I think I speak for all of us when I say it gets our hopes high again.

etqw src code won’t be made available any time soon! Don’t think that D3 src code being released means that other games using id tech 4 will have the same fate! the game is owned by Id Software (zenimax, now) so SD is powerless on this mater.
I don’t think it will happen any time soon, but I really hope it will happen, eventually - it’s the last hope for humanity! :oppressor:
Isn’t the ETWQ engine a mashup on some parts between idtech4 and idtech5?
It’s idtech4 with megatextures, a sort of prototype for idtech5’s versions of megatextures of sorts.
ETQW GPL source is only a matter of Zenimax giving the right of way. All id tech 4 games could have their sources released. Zenimax owns all of them, including those not released yet like Prey 2, which will use id tech 4. I’ll say that until id tech 5 source is GPL’ed in ten or more years, we’ll see another id tech 4 game source released every year.
i’m not so sure dude about zenimax owning all idtech 4 games IPs and Rights. HumanHead had licensed idtech 4 for Prey and still is not owned by Zenimax. so the game src code isn’t owned by zenimax.
yes, that’s correct, you can include Dishonored, Prey 2 that are owned by Zenimax. For Brink, i quite not sure if it’s an independent IP meaning that Zenimax might not own the IP, yet it’s the publisher of the game.
HumanHead developed Prey with idtech4, but the game wasn’t owned by them. Zenimax acquired the Prey IP later. They own it and Prey 2 will be a Zenimax title.
yes Prey isn’t owned by HumanHead but they own the source code of the game. the Prey’s IP was first owned by 3d Realms, and now by Zenimax.
