etqw loading times

(kilL_888) #1

hi,

i just played some etqw but i noticed very long loading times.

it says “spawning entities 100%” and then for like 1-2 minutes nothing happens, though i can hear the sounds of the map in the background. when there is a mapchange the loading is slightly faster, but it seems to load stuff when i dropped into the game. i get very few frames the first few seconds when a map changes.

i just did a clean install + latest patch. i remember vaguely that you can put the megatexture files into a zip file to decrease loading times, not sure if its true though.

anything else i can do to reduce the loading times?

thanks in advance.

Something sililar happened to me once, the reason being I tweaked something in my config that caused this. But since you are making a clean install, this cause seems to be unlikely. Are you sure you are not copying back your old configs after clean install?

(kilL_888) #3

nope. i deleted all configs in my user folder. still no change. it takes literally 2 minutes till i join a game. i have a ssd hd, so somethings not right.

(Ashog) #4

which user folder do you mean?

I also use SSD, but the game itself isn’t on it.

[/QUOTE]

the one where the configs are stored on windows7. under my documents. i made sure i delete all configs. when i run the game after that, settings where back to default.

so, i did a fresh install, installed patch, deleted all configs, but still very long loading times.

(Ashog) #6

do u have a router/hardware firewall and what is your ping after joining?

also try to disable software firewall/antivirus for a change and see

also is it on all servers or only specific?

try to install etqwpro and join one of those servers and see

(kilL_888) #7

i have the windows firewall enabled and anti virus software running.

actually the first server i joined was an etqw promod server. the other i tried was ranked, without mods. same result.

i dont think that it has something to do with third party software actually. i remember the loading time was always a bit long, but right now its really rediculous.

whats weired is that i can hear the sound of the map, but i stick at the loading screen.

it could be anything.

recently my game wouldnt even start, only later to find that new version of kaspersky had specific issues with etqw.

It is probably not that but still one option to try - disable punkbuster in game menu, quit. Launch windows task manager, go to processes, kill both pnkbstrA.exe and pnkbstrB.exe processes. Launch game again, check that punkbuster is still disabled, then join a server w/o punkbuster for example this one 178.32.80.150:27733

Also quite possible are outdated video card drivers. Try to make a clean install of the drivers.

(kilL_888) #9

i have the newest video drivers installed.

and i dont know how your other suggestions help me find a solution for the problem. anyways. i tried to disable my antivirus software, but it didnt help.

even when i start the game the “loading ui” takes almost 30 seconds till the main menu opens. im starting to think that there is no bug, its just etqw that takes rediculously long to compile scripts or stuff?!

(Gradis) #10

doubt its any firewall/pb/virus scanner etc

if it was you would be kicked for a reason you could get a solution for.

Gonna go with config or gpu drivers/settings and if not sound card/drivers causing a massive hang. (if it was network you would get pb errors etc…) Whats ur gpu/ sounds card?

Well, it doesn’t take tbh. There is clearly a problem.

Try following: create a shortcut to etqw like this (change to your corresponding paths):

F:\Games\ETQW\etqw.exe +set fs_savepath “F:\Games\ETQW” +set fs_userpath “F:\Games\ETQW”

where f:\games\etqw is a path where the game is installed (and is not under the users folder of c:\win7)

This will save all future cfg and demos and screenshots and logs to under game install directory.

Launch the game, connect to a server, check loading time and quit. Then delete every single cfg file in any of the subfolders under ETQW folder. Then launch game again and check.

Let me know what comes out.

i tried to change commands in the past that really slowed the game, maybe they have wrong value:

  • number of cpus

  • enable/disable directx (not sure if still exists in etqw. i saw it in previous w:et)

or maybe just try the “autodetect hardware” option ?

on linux it works
