Games been out over a year now. We need more “official” maps for this great game.
ETQW Expansion pack... I'm buying

There won’t be any maps by SD because they have never made an expansion and never will.
Expansions are only needed for games that are the same like others(shooting DM, nothing new, maybe a SP that you finish in an hour and expansions continue it like TV series that never finish with only one reason: to get more money).
Just look at how W:ET survives w/o new official content. Custom content has kept it alive for all the years and soon the 6th will come and playercount isn’t decreasing that much.
Edit: It hasn’t been out for a year, 28th Sept was the release date. You can’t consider the beta/demo as the birthdate of the game.
SD are in full swing with their latest project with Bethesda… i highly doubt they’re gonna stick that to the side and work on an expansion.
Official maps could also come in a patch… See how the SD maps were added to RtCW in the “GotY edition” patch.

Well nany nany boo boo to you too Murka.
ETQW is not W:ET. This is true in so many ways…(maps aren’t as easy to custom make, auto downloading is kinda tricky, ranked servers discorage cutom maps becoming popular, etc etc) not the least of these is ETQW was not free. SD needs to take all this in consideration and support their fine product with “official maps” either by a retail expansion… or even better yet, a free patch.
i may be wrong on this, but my point of view is that etqw is id/atvi property and sd is working for/with bethesda now. so if you want new stuff, i guess you better refer to id. besides sd release high quality maps, and considering the amount of resources (especially time) it takes to create/test/balance a single map, i wouldn’t expect any official new maps for the game tbh.
I’m not pulling out a pitch-fork and shouting “dear SD, give us maps or I’ll stop looking at your ads!!!” demanding they drop their work and make these new maps.
However, it could be that are still some concept maps floating around which did not get the time or love to be completed because the game needed to be released. In that case, it could be feasible to finish and release those.
But sadly, I’m not a clairvoyant. My tapir intelligence has been a letdown as of late, probably due to mandatory tin-foil gear and magical “silly face” wards at the SD office.
If it is only one thread, we’re fine. At least we don’t have a lot of people claiming they made a thread about it.
this was sort of a test of SD’s abilites. A showoff for ID, to see what they are made off. And SD wasnt working on other project’s as well (back then), not for money at least, afaik.
So this example isnt really valid here.

Also, it doesn’t have to be SD who creates the maps - if a given custom map is reviewed and the author permits to include it in an official path, it is also an “official” map from then on.
Not that it would happen soon, but it is already more likely then an SD-made map patch.
Guys is SD … Pure Lazyness. ETQW is a popular game … 12 maps?? Come on … i am sure that there are maps that like didn’t make the ‘cut’ that can be added to a ‘patch’. Kinda sucks that it was said that SD ‘won’t be doing any’ map paks.
I am sure that there are maps somewhere there in development that can be given to the public.
:oppressor:
I can see some the practical reasons why SD may want focus away from ETQW… But come on this is their baby, there is no other game like it… SD show us some lub of your game!
Hmmm, full team of developers take 4 years to make 12 maps for original release, who’s going to pay for the next 12 ?
What did the mappers do while waiting for the coders to finish the code then? Sit and roll their thumbs? I think the mapping was the most time consuming job during the creation of ET:QW. I might be wrong too. Maybe we could get some insight knowledge on that?
well if your a mapper, and you spend all your time mapping (wow that actually sounds cool, mapping all day and get paid for it), anyway if you do, then I don’ think it takes 4 years for 12 maps
Let’s say you create a really crazy map, very detailed and what not, it takes a year at max I think. and since you’re not the only mapper, you complete more than 1 map a year.
But I guess the mappers have to wait for the software to map on before they can even start, so t would be interesting to know while they are “waiting around”

In case you have been working in a team, I can tell you that 1+1<2 when mapping in a team imo. How near it gets to the 2 is up to the leading and the teamwork. SD teamwork might be quite near to seamless.
Also when I’m mapping I often find myself looking vids on youtube or looking at forums, so that makes it faster too when you are working as a professional level designer. However I don’t need to doubt that it could have taken them almost 4 years. Remember the amounts dedicated to testing, testing, testing …
