Hey all, I have some curiosities concerning “Enemy Territory: Quake Wars” and the Operating Systems it will be compatible with.
I assume that ETQW will be designed primarily for Windows XP, but I also know that XP isn’t going to last long, so could it be that ETQW will be designed for Windows Vista which will be coming out next year, or at least compatible with it without having any crossover glitches? I know I’ll be switching over to Vista ASAP. Also, will ETQW be available for Mac users? I know people who own macs who would’ve been ecstatic to have had “Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory” available to them.
ETQW and Operating Systems
Switching to a new OS, especially a Microsoft one is a bad idea imo. There are always bugs and/or security issues with a new release, and personally I wait until I can buy Vista with a service pack or two already applied to it.
XP works fine for me, so switching when it comes out doesnt really seem like a good idea. If it aint broke…
I definately won’t as XP still works fine. I heard vista was a system hog as well. There’s no point in me buying it until I have to buy a whole new computer somewhere down the line.
I would only aim for some level of compatability with Vista. (Microsoft will probably have some document which lists possible crossover problems)
Who remembers those critical patches a few days after XP’s official release?
(BTW: I’ll probably try a Linux version of ET:QW, if possible. Only problem is that I don’t know if the mapeditor works in Linux…)
And before I forget: the poll is a little bit biased, no?
Wasn’t trying to give a biased poll. Just mostly geared toward GUI operating systems users. I should have reworded the question a bit, lol. I was kinda curious as to how many people were actually considering going with a Vista OS who already used XP, but I left room for those who own macs as well! That’s a plus, right?
I know people who own macs who would’ve been ecstatic to have had “Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory” available to them.
did someone not make a mac port?
Really? Oh! I do remember hearing something about it and telling one of my friends that they came out with one. It hasn’t been out long, though, has it? (from America, dunno if that makes a difference)
Don’t woory about the OS. Almost all older stuff can be use on a newer version of the OS. I think that ET:QW supports these OS veriosn:
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2003 I guess, although nobody uses it as an OS to game)
Linux
Maybe mac later?
I’m on W2K right now and plan on switching to Linux the day I get a computer that doesn’t run well with W2K.
I really can’t see myself rewarding MS for walking the wrong path (imho of course) by buying any more of their products.
I won’t switch to Vista until I am forced to.
And ET:QW being only available on Visa certainly will not be enough reason. If id/Activision/Splashdamage/whoever is pulling the strings decides to only release it for Vista then they can forget about my donation.
We’d all have to be using Vista at the office to be able to do that, too, otherwise the game wouldn’t run
