ETQW and duel core

(F-techdeath) #1

Hi,
As the title topic goes I am wondering if Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars will take advantage of the new(kinda) duel cores for example AMD x2 3800 .
Because this will be a kinda new game I am wondering if it will take advantage of the extra processor. If it does it will be a huge advantage for the fps for some players.

I did some research of my self, but I never founded a direct answer too it.
So that is why I am asking here.
ty in advance :stuck_out_tongue:

Dear god its a new forumer who did some research first and asked a decent question. Welcome my friend!
Tbh I’m not sure though I think quake 4 was workin on a patch to bring it up to speed with X2 processors. I’d be very surprised/disappointed if ET doesn’t support dual core processors.

Ok, there were some posts before (see http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=search&mode=results) but they had no real answer either then “probably they’ll do it like with Doom: include it in a patch” IIRC.

Evil sarcasme?:stuck_out_tongue:
But im normally active at the dutch gamers forums but they had no clue anyway:p
Normally I just read the reply’s here and look it up my self:P

Y I saw that one(netwerk too busy now), but as I stated they didnt gave any real clear “offical” answers.

And as for the patch :stuck_out_tongue: well I never like it when they say they will add it in the near future in a patch.(for example wow:P heroclasses?)

Its true (still beta i guess) that there is a dualcore patch for quake4. Quake4 uses the doom3 engine, the same as ET:QW will use. So probable yes. There is a good chance that there will be a dualcore version. Maybe as patch. I would also like to know if there is gonna be a 64-bit version as well. I saw nice graphics from Farcry64, there was more detail possible because of 64-bit.

(F-techdeath) #6

I sure hope it will, otherwise a waste of an investment:P

No sarcasm intended, just a welcome relief. With 64 bit operating systems being released this year theres a strong possibility of it (I know xp 64 exists but I’m told its ceck). Though I’d say initially it’ll just be a 32 bit release (again with the speculation) I’d love it if I can use my machine to its full potential though I can’t see it happening on release day anyway.

???

i won’t be upgrading to dual core untill 2007… i would prefer to run game on one core anyway. so i can run fraps, TS, Vent ect on the other core.
The ‘new’ dual cores should run any game at decent frame rates on one core.

I have dual core also, would love it if ET:QW could take advantage of both of them and 64 bit.

(Sauron|EFG) #10

The newest GFX drivers takes advantage of dual-core, so I think dual-core is the way to go even if not all games support it.

(EB) #11

I remember someone from id saying that dual core was not on the focus sheet for the development of D3 eninge based games(not direct quoting there) but they did end up utilizing it afterall in some instances. Was it Hollenshead that said something like that ?..errr maybe Carmack ? Then again, I could be insanely imagining this stuff up as well…but I think they will support the dual core, especially by the time this game comes out.

(F-techdeath) #12

Maybe the demo will support it :stuck_out_tongue: or not:p
But so far it seems like it will support it, now all is left is waiting patiently :stuck_out_tongue:

Or we could just ask SD if they have ruled it out.
