etkey from Windows back-up to "etmain" on Mac.

(Ultra_Ultimo) #1

Hi.

Is it possible to continue using an etkey file for Windows Wolf:ET to be used on Mac Wolf:ET? I just got my 1st Mac and had been using strictly Windows in the past.

When I try to copy my etkey (which is important to me since it has admin levels on my clan) to “etmain” on Mac, I get a message saying something like “etmain can’t be modified”, not sure if it’s more of a Wolf:ET question or Mac question but can someone lend me a hand on this? Thank you.

Is the directory maybe read-only ?

It does sound like an operating system issue rather than a Wolfenstein one.
ET is simply a bunch of files that you can copy around.

Look at this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963

you have probably tried to copy the etkey into the ET package, yet you need to place it elsewhere,
afaik something like, library/application data/wolfenstein enemy-territory/etmain

if use finder, it won’t look in library by default afaik, so dunno - you probably know more about osx… lol

I right-click and click on “Get Info”, it says near bottom that it is Read-only. It also shows 3 names in a chart under it…
User_Folder (me) | Read & Write
staff | Read only
everyone | Read only

It does say that User_Folder (me) can Read & Write, but the entire chart is grayed-out and so are the +, -, tool, and lock buttons under it.

ailmanki, on my version of Mac, 10.5 Leopard, that exact directly is non-existent unless it’s hidden. The closest I found starts with; library/application support…
I saved .dmg (which I assume is just an installer file versus the .exe on Windows) to a folder I made for my downloads. It seems I need to go into the .dmg each time to even open the game directory.
Even if I know more about Mac, it’s only a few days worth and whatever I read about it before using it.

Gimpsta, I tried the Disk Privilege Repair, didn’t work. I tried the Root user, didn’t seem to confirm that it worked, but “enable” changed to option for “disable” so I assume that part worked, but the etmain issue didn’t work still.

Still wondering how to get around this, any other suggestions? Thanks.

Edit: Oh, if none of you mind answering this too, do any you know how to select which desired OS to boot-up when dual-booting on Mac? I heard it might be holding either Option, or fn key while powering on, but need validation before I get myself stuck dual-booting a 2nd time on here. Thanks.

Mac gurus here

TY. Though I need to register there to post, so I went to do that and for some odd reason it says that my e-mail won’t be accepted by their board, haven’t been there before and it says that regardless of which e-mail I test too.

Looks like an error on their part to me.

:S maybe search in that folder Application support …
I was finally able to get this to work.

rm -rf /Applications/Wolfenstein\ ET/
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Wolfenstein\ ET/
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/Wolfenstein\ ET\ Preferences
rm -rf /Library/Receipts/Install\ Punkbuster.pkg/
rm /pbcl.db

Then I ran the Disk Utility.app and had it repair permissions. Didn’t see anything really strange there though.

Reinstalled 2.60c, installed Punkbuster from there, and immediately patched it to 2.60d without running it first.

Hope that helps someone.
look in your users subfolder under application support

ROFL!

I didn’t post in a few days since I got my hands too dirty with PC software. Believe it or not I am on Ubuntu Linux 9.04 on my iMac now.

I got ET to work on Mac, but then found that the Mouse Acceleration was brutal and much more worse than on Windows, unless someone knows a way to turn off Mouse Acceleration on Mac OS X 10.5 then I need to try ET on Linux…can’t hold connection on PB servers on Windows 7 RC (my 3rd OS).

On Mac I needed to right-click on “etmain” and click “Get Info”, then click the Lock Icon on the bottom right, which I did, but I was trying this within the .dmg file, .dmg appears to be an archive file similar to .zip. Outside the .dmg file it then worked.

Now I’m wrestling with the Permissions on Ubuntu, I got the game installed, but need to be able to patch 2.60b on a game directory that’s restricted. Don’t think I got sound working (on entire OS not just game) either. Any help? Thanks.

(system) #12

did you install it as root ?
If you did, press “su” in console and set the rights on the directory with chmod.
(I don’t have KDE; only console on our server and winxp as my workspace locally…)

The sound issue is wellknown on ubuntu and there is a easy solution wich i forgot.
I ask my buddy as soon as he is not idling anymore in irc :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe its the ALSA sound drivers that causes the sound problems.

ah found something, i believe this is the solution (if i remember right) :

stop wolfet
in console : sudo apt-get install esound
start wolfet

edit : if this won’t help, here is a interesting Ubuntu link :

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnemyTerritory

hope it works, but you can set the rights for etmain with root for sure.

Ah, a buddy just gave me this link wich works the best and fastest way :
