imho that’s a fps-eater but the game is free like air is free, so i would welcome this feature as well. People can then decide if they wanna use it or not.

Yeah it won’t eat fps if it off on default and you put it on/off in the options. Or do a first time system check and decide if it goes on/off.
But is there a way of knowing which files are required for compiled maps? I’ll look into it in a few hours.

read map.bsp
look only in pak0/1/2, other necessary files and the map.pk3

How about upping the maximum number of entities? There is a hard coded limit in the ET engine, IIRC…
1024 entities. First 64 are reserved for client players IIRC, the last (1023) is reserved as well. An increase here would be pretty awesome.

just to clarify that out: of course it’s possible but at the latest then you gonna break compatibility with existing mods. I would love to see something like that as well, that’s for me no question but then has the ET-XreaL project to respecify their goals.
Do we wanna have compatibility or do we want a new ET game, but due to this fact have mod developers to rewrite their mod as well so that it’s runs with ET-XreaL or however you wanna call it later. The same issue i’m seeing with new assets and the model format MD5.
As well it would be helpful if more people would jump on the train to help developing. Even if it is just random external contributions. See we can change a lot but it’s also necessary to test and evaluate a lot.
So actually everyone is welcome, server admins who would host for us game server instances for testing, as well as coders and artists.
We have atm a general lack like nearly at every corner, as more people we are, as faster you will see positive progress.

What exactly do you mean by this and which guides do you miss? Today we have added a couple of guides, although we are not done with guides at all.
