ET:XreaL features request

Because official xreal-project website/forum/ is missing in action, post in this topic features like you want to be included in ET:XreaL projects, what you want to be added/changed in ET:XreaL … In this way we will have better control over adding features in ET:XreaL what community want/like …

And personally I would like if some developer(s) join and contribute to ET:XreaL project …

  • Ragdolls
  • Better sound support then only .wav files (the 3d sound noob was talking about sounded cool)
  • Better file system in ET, atm it just loads all pk3 files available (I think) it should only load the required files.
  • Support for current maps /mods (if possible)

-Voice support ingame like counter strike has would be awesome to. Like you will be able to talk in a fireteam or something.

Fixing “invalid pk3 files reference problem” if i remember this bug correct. It happens when you get diconnected from a server and are trying to reconnect again.

I strongly disagree with this, it wouldnt be ET any longer.

If possible, I’d like a better method of storage. Perhaps even .dds file support.
Make it possible to use .ogg or .mp3 files instead of only .wav.

I’ve also always wanted to rebalance the current classes:

  1. Medic can heal and revive, but should have maximum 120HP instead of current 156. Medic should also not be able to have passive regeneration. Its insane that the medic has regeneration, self heal and the highest amount of HP of all the classes, and to top it all off has a steroid that makes him almost invincible.
  2. Soldier should have maximum 156HP.
  3. Covert ops should have passive HP regeneration (like medic currently has)

Other features:
Players should be able to throw ammo clips if they have too much and their ally does not.
Some kind of integrated VOIP system so that players do not have to use vent/teamspeak.

you have said this kind of stuff at least hundred times.
yeah, let’s make another cod-game, cause cod-games are somehow quite playable… so why not combine these two into one product that anyone can contribute? there is no such game on the market (and none that are planned to be released; forget about bink or however it was called).

one more feature:

  • native xbox 360 controller support, if possible then with vibration and so. why? cause more and more people are having big screens for gaming or as a media center. some people will say crap like ‘what’s the point of playing pc game with a controller?’ - just think about it. each console is just like a pc, only with diffrent os and so…

playing with a controller adds also some realism to the game. how come? you can’t do 720° turns and such kind of unrealistic things. of course for first timers aiming will be much more difficult, but it’s only an option to play on controller - noone will force u to do so.
if you would like to implement such feature then please also make a cvar or something to let people play on that server only and only if they have such controller. why? it’s no fun to play against people with mouse and keyboard. it’s not worse, it’s just diffrent style.

@Avoc - naturally all of these features would be server-side variables. so people who don’t want to play like that will still have an option to play normally.
i just strongly advise just to give it a try. it is fun. :slight_smile:

Well we want a new ET. There are thousands of games to play that have similar features as COD, why in the world to make another? It would totally kill the point of the whole project (ET-Xreal).
If you are so keen to COD, why not play it instead?

Make it CVAR - why bother. I’d rather have devs spending their time more wisely on gfx and general things rather than wasting time on useless stuff, that would either 1) be used very little or 2) ruin the gameplay (if used much).

Ps. I’ve been playing games with COD features lately, and yes I like them. But I like them in those games. Would totally make ET a different game thought… And unfortunately I think it would take the most important things that makes ET stand out.

Anyway to summarize what you guys have said engine changes would be stuff like:

  • iron sights (although could be done with a mod too I think)
  • disable bunnyhopping (although again can probably be done with a mod not engine needed)
  • VOIP support (+1 for this)
  • 360 controller support
  • better audio
  • better file system

The other stuff you guys suggested should be covered by mods, not something included in the engine imo. Engine changes should only be visual, audible, etc… updates (and bug fixes ofc) other stuff like defining gameplay etc should be left up to mods.

but what does ET means to you anyway? because for me it’s just a game, just like any other, but i like certain features in it - like team divided into classes, so everyone has his own role. that’s it. other than that there is nothing new, nothing spectacular, nothing that makes this game diffrent than the others. it’s the class system. that’s why i want to combine cod features that i like with et class style.

stealth6 - the reason why i want these features to be features of et-xreal, is the ability to use them with any future mod, cause then they would be included in ‘primary game’. i hope you get the idea. many people on this board has been against iron sights, but i suspect most of these haven’t really played with it - maybe too old pc to run new games, maybe attitude not to try new stuff or something like that… but if it’s really not enjoyable, then why it’s like 3 of 4 new fpp games that are released has that?

I think that x-real should confine its improvements to the game engine. Add new capabilities if you like, but keep the core gameplay as it is. W:ET is what it is because of the way it is. Ragdolls, better graphics, fewer exploits…sure! Fundamentally change the game? No! I won’t even play No Quarter because it violates all the fundamental rules of ET to me…like the value of earning XP, for example. I realize that the vast majority of players do like XP save…but not me. I wouldn’t even use an xreal version of ET if I can’t turn that nonsense off. I’m all in favor of new capabilities, but silly ones that ruin the original gameplay are not what I am looking for…

  • fix annoying console bug with ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  • advanced map scripting (simply control structures like if, while, for etc. instead accums)
  • LUA support
  • better bot-system than in ET (better movement, aiming etc.)
  • anticheat like SLAC that installs together with ET:X-reaL so all players need to register at the beggining

Because 3 out of 4 are COD-like games. Unfortunately. Because soon all games play the same if everyone goes with the masses.

The reason ET is different to other games to me is the adrenaline running in my veins. The shaking of my body for trying to push myself further and further (in strafejumping too, not only shooting). It’s the speed and the way I can control the player (yes unrealistic). The smoothness of everything (am not talking about FPS/ping). The simplicity, nothing else than what is needed for the game is there.

To me that class system is not a major factor. It’s the other things that makes ET ET to me. As I said earlier, I want a new ET, not CODet. Don’t you realise that if you add those things in it, it’s like any other game.

And btw, I do play modern games. I liked those games I’ve played through. I liked the features in those games. But I LOVE ET. ET is an old game. ET works perfectly as it is. Putting things things as not being able to shoot while sprinting and ironsight into ET, would be ET no more. I don’t need a new random game.

Well I like CoD also and I love ET. The thing is I need to totally agree to the other guys because those two games are two different things. The Cod style simply doesn’t fit to ET. Wanna have Iron sights? Maybe also want to drive vehicles like in BF? Well try out Eastfront. Then have a guess why Eastfront isn’t really played in the ET community. I don’t want to say that those developers didn’t manage to create something cool, do you? The thing is just that it does not fit into ET gameplay.
I really hope this project is about improving graphics, models and reducing the amount of errors and bugs players receive which is currently quite large. You know? This project should be a new stock ET. Some updating stock ET. Then the other stuff is again the thing of modders. The ET community is currently not running bad with that type of managing it. Why force something which is heavily discussed and normaly the job of mods?

That’s my opinion on that. Nothing in my post is ment offensive to anyone!!

kemon - eastfront was a disaster when it came to gameplay. iron sight was so bugged that u can’t really call it working iron sight… not that i do not have respect that they spent their time to build something like that.

all of that code would be in a mod. you would probably be more interested in a project like Overdose instead of a project that intends to preserve the original gameplay.
