ET will not open my .bsp files

(Papagali) #1

Hi everybody,

A total n00b question here: my .bsp files won’t open in my ET game.
The set up:
Maps dir is located in etmain in Wolfenstein enemy territory dir. Radiant accesses maps without any trouble, saves them to the right map, builds them into .bsp without problems and saves them in \maps too.
When I run ET, drop the console, I type /sv_pure 0, \devmap map_name.bsp and then I get the following: “can’t find map maps/name_map.bsp”
I’m in a group of three making our first maps, I do the texturing, my partners can open the .bsp’s without any hassle so the problem must be in my setup.
Any ideas that can help this very frustrated mapping n00b further?:banghead:
Thanks a million, guys!

You don’t need to add “.bsp” when you do a devmap.

(Papagali) #3

Sorry, that was a typing error in the post. I actually didn’t enter the .bsp behind the map name, just the mapname itself. Thanks for pointing that out!

(kamikazee) #4

You could try to enter this in the console:

/fdir part of map name.bsp
If you replace my text between the ‘’ characters (don’t remove the '’ signs) it will print out all files it find matching the pattern.
If you’re map is there, you something wrong before doing /devmap.
If it won’t show up, check if sv_pure is set to 0 for sure, and that the .bsp exists and is in the right folder.

(Papagali) #5

Thanks for your help, kamikazee!
I used your command, it says no files listed.
The .bsp file is located in C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\maps.
Sv_pure is set to 0. Is there anyway of checking sv_pure settings other than re-entering the commandline?
I can open any map in my etmain folder through the /map command.
It seems as though ET doesn’t recognize the maps dir inside etmain.

(Nail) #6

afaik, maps have to be in etmain, not sure if it’s just a .bsp file, I thought you needed more than that to open in game

(psyco_mario) #7

eh? all my bsp’s are in etmain/maps

BTW
Go into radient
Open preferces (Press P)
Go onto BSP Monitoring
Check run engine after complie

(]UBC[ McNite) #8

/g_gametype 2

I think you forgot that one. Without it, ET wont open files that aren’t packed within a pk3 iirc.

(kamikazee) #9
UBC[ McNite]/g_gametype 2
From what I remember from my n00b period, the game would bitch if you forgot that one. This is fixed in 2.60 AFAIK.

You can check the values just by entering /sv_pure.

BTW: Do you have more then 1 install of W:ET? (Just to make sure that you aren’t starting your clean install of W:ET when GTKRadiant puts maps in your normal install)

(Loffy) #10

Hi
If you do:
sv_pure 0
g_gametype 2
devmap goldrush

…do you get Goldrush? Just to check that at least some bsp work.
//L.

(Papagali) #11

OK, guys
First of all thanks for all your help!
I didn’t put in /g_gametype 2, will do from now on, thx McNite!
@kamikazee: only one ET installation. Would it be an idea to install a second, dedicated for mapping only?
@Loffy: Followed your lead and got Goldrush. And yes, that is the world’s worst fighting scene! :skull:
After that I got my .bsp running only to have ET freeze up on the load up screen. I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with the map as both my mapping buddies run it withoyt any trouble…

I guess the last try will be uninstalling ET and reinstalling the whole shabang… I’ll let you all know how it turns out!

(SCDS_reyalP) #12

YES!

(Papagali) #13

Thanks SCDS_reyalP,
as long as I am reinstalling anyway, I’ll get that number two in as well! A  for all you peeps for just trying to help a n00b out!

(Papagali) #14

Man, I don’t get it…
I uninstalled everything even remotely connected to ET and Radiant, reinstalled by the numbers, a second install just for mapping…
Result: Et says “can’t find map maps/name_map.bsp”
What the F is going wrong here?
Guess a Panzer would do the trick: simply gib the dang computer! :???: :banghead:
I’m sure the .bsp (named sizebeta1) is in the right dir, just have a look at the screenshot:

Thought mapping would be dif, never imagined stranding on some dumb crap like this though… :bored:
Hope anybody has an idea on what I’m messing up here… Thanks people!

(kamikazee) #15

So doing a “/devmap sizebeta1” allways goes wrong?
Still no luck with “/fdir sizebeta1.bsp” as well?

(Papagali) #16

No kamikazee, it still says no files listed…
Before the reinstalling I had a frozen game but even that won’t happen anymore.
Weird stuff, man…

(TF) #17

imo,if u make another dircory under maps direcory u have to use “map/sizebeta1/sizebeta1”
why cant u just keep it under the maps directory?
EDIT:My bad :frowning:

(kamikazee) #18

No, that folder is made for his lightmaps, the BSP is in the right directory as he selected his maps folder on the screenshot.

(die die) #19

i know im out on a limb here but aint that .lin file an indication to that ur map is leaked?

not sure if that has anything to do with you beeing able to open up the bsp tough :suspicious:

(Papagali) #20

Not sure about the .lin file but the .bsp works for my mapping partners, just not on my system. That’s the frustrating part…
kamikazee, when I do an fdir it lists all the .bsp’s in the .pk3’s in etmain itself but it doesn’t look inside \maps, I think. Could there be a reason for that?
