ET wierd thing.....

HI

I’ve been playing ET now for 3 years, even built a map etc… However something very odd has just happened on both my machines - ET keeps freezing on me.

I’m left without being able to move from the position I’m in, however I can look around. I can’t shoot or anything else, however somethimes I go into 3rd person view.

Now this is NOT my router as I toook it out of the loop, its NOT my modem or network bandwidth, ping, etc, etc.

It does happen on a new ET install with ET Pro 3-2-5

I’ve viruse checked to hell & now I’m a bit stuck.

Any ideas what could be causing this??

Thanks

Massive

this happens on laggy players, simply said: client already know you are dead but not all is set yet ( animation for example )

i had something similar once. i moved around and then everything froze, then i could move around again, then freeze again … i was told to set /pb_system 1 … dunno what it did to the game or punkbuster, but the freezes stopped

Here’s what EB has to say about it:

PB_System [0/1]
PB can conflict with other software on some systems due to vigorous memory scanning; Changing this setting may reduce or eliminate conflicts if you have problems on your system; this setting can only be changed before connecting to a server

http://www.evenbalance.com/publications/et-pl/index.htm

Here’s the comment I made in my own client PB settings:

pb_system 1 // 1 uses new (as of late 2002) memory scanning code. 0 uses the older scanning method.

I don’t remember where I got that info, but I wouldn’t have added the comment if I didn’t trust the source.

Create a file called “pbsys.cfg” in the “pb” folder and add that cvar to make the setting permanent. Do NOT include “set” or “seta”, etc. Those are ET commands, not PB.

Another thing that tends to be beneficial for most users is pb_sleep 500.

Create another file in the “pb” folder called “pbcl.cfg” and include the following:

pb_sleep 500

You could simply set those values in the console, then do /pb_writecfg, but I like to do things the hard way. :stuck_out_tongue:
