ET v 1.4?

(Belisarius) #1

Sorry all for this really dumb question.

I DL’ed something called 1.4 patch for ET the other day from GameSpy. However, when I ran the autoinstaller it said that it couldn’t find my ET installation :???:. I’ve got ET installed in a subfolder on my D:\ drive, not the root C:.

  1. Can this be the problem? How to fix it?
  2. Is there even an ET 1.4 patch? Is it necessary?

There are no client patches, i.e. there’s only one full version (there was a Test version, which was different).

You may have downloaded a server patch (irrelevant unless you’re hosting a server) or a mod (Shrub, Bani) but then those mods are server-side and no client download is actually required.

was it an rtcw patch…

Kendle,

That kinda affirm my suspicions. I had never heard of a client patch to ET, so when I found it I thought better safe than sorry.

Skinner, yes I’m positive that it’s not a rtcw patch, as the autoinstaller specifically said “no Enemy Territory installation found”.

Either way, I’ll be happy to just go along with what I have.

Follow-up dumb q: Since I don’t have too much time to involve myself (max. 1 hr/day :(), how do I recognize a server-side mod (e.g. shrub)? And is there something I need to do to be able to play on it?

I don’t think you can using the ingame browser. If you use a third party server broswer (like All Seeing Eye) it’ll list the gamename for the server. Standard servers are etmain, modded ones are anything else (shrubet, etpro).

that’s only when the mod is installed in a seperate directory

from the shrubmod documentation:
Installation
shrubmod for ET is a server-side mod; no installation is necessary for players. Installation can be performed two ways:

  1. Overwrite existing .so/.dll files in etmain
Extract the .zip file into your Enemy Territory/etmain folder (the location will vary) and start the server normally.
  2. Create a new mod installation
Create a folder called shrubet in your Enemy Territory folder (the same folder that etmain is located in. Extract the .zip into the new shrubet folder. When running the server, append +set fs_game shrubet to the command line. Make sure you create or copy a config file into the new folder.

The first method is preferrable, as it avoids creating multiple config files on the players’ end, which will lead to confusion for those who are unfamiliar with manually editing their config files.

im fairly certain that it is a rtcw patch u downloaded, considering ET is at version 2.55

You click on server info and it’ll say shrub somewhere on there
