ET: Useless stationary MG's

(Borsuk) #1

Hi.

I noticed number of useless stationary MG spots. It is unlikely Splash Damage will do something about them, but it’s my right to try…

Rail Gun - on the gun itself. I haven’t seen it used in month or so… It simply faces wrong direction.

Radar - in the cottage, next to ammo and health cabinets. It might be useful if allies are going to capture the bunker that way or go for primary entrance first, but usually they prefer one of 2 others ways to Forward Bunker. Again, I can’t recall it being used.

Radar - Axis tower… It might be useful for hunting allies who made it past first line of defenses, but you are free kill to anyone entering via main or side entrance.

Radar - Allied spawn point… even if Axis try to spawn camp, they can avoid your Mg by climbing on the wall, the same you can jump on from the window. It would help if it was ABOVE the wall. Anyway, any airstrike makes it useless.

Rail Gun - Depot Yard… so easily avoided (line of sight obscured by numerous obstacles)… acts mainly as suprise weapon. There are several directions you can be shot from, each providing cover.

Those spots are about as useful as Flamethrower on foot bridge. Perhaps there are more.

Never knew there was a MG42 gun on the Railgun itself. Where is this gun?

I have seen the axis tower MG42 on radar be useful guess it depends on how the person is using it. I agree with one in the cottage you usually start to far away to use it and even if you did get it whats teh point hardly any allies come that way.

I can’t find this one. :???:

(Weaver24) #4

Do you mean the MG42 near the depot yard?

I use that evertime I get the chance, very useful for mowing down axis.

Anyway, the MG42s in vanilla wolf were extremly useless. NOBODY used them, because the developers thought it would be “Cheap” if they were in such a position to make it extremly difficult for the other team.

In ET it is much differnent. There are MG42s in builidings like radar into the foraward deployment which is ver useful.

I think hes talking about the one when you come from the allie spawn point and run down the steps theres a bunker with a gun which noone uses on railgun. its near the point where you have to lift the lever for the for the train to pass. Not the one on top of the steps :).

Actually I think he thinks that the building flag and crates on the rail gun are to build an mg when it means that you need to rebuild the gun controls.

Depot Yard MG post rules…

(Borsuk) #8

That was obviously mistake about that gun, because there’s no one.

(bani) #9

on railgun, the mg42 near allied initial spawn is completely useless, the usable field of view is so small. actually, all the mg42’s on railgun seem pretty useless.

sure

While that MG42 suffers the same problems all fixed MGs do (everyone knows where it is so it can get Panzered, Artied, or air stikred :frowning: :moo: )

I have found it to be very helpful in defending the switch. It can lay down a nice stream of fire on the tug and its defenders…

Often I have mowed down several Germans try to get to the switch (or coming up the hill to kill me)…

Never heard of this gun before, as others have said, I think you made a mistake.

Radar - in the cottage, next to ammo and health cabinets. It might be useful if allies are going to capture the bunker that way or go for primary entrance first, but usually they prefer one of 2 others ways to Forward Bunker. Again, I can’t recall it being used.

I’ve used this one myself both as allies and axis. It works well as a defensive position at the beginning of the map, but you have to get there fast.

Radar - Axis tower… It might be useful for hunting allies who made it past first line of defenses, but you are free kill to anyone entering via main or side entrance.

I’ve used this one a few times too. It’s vaguely good for keeping people out of the main entrance, but it’s much better for keeping people away from the West Radar Parts. Allies can also use it to clear the radar parts before going for them too.

Radar - Allied spawn point… even if Axis try to spawn camp, they can avoid your Mg by climbing on the wall, the same you can jump on from the window. It would help if it was ABOVE the wall. Anyway, any airstrike makes it useless.

This gun is one of the key positions when allies are getting spawn camped. Yeah they can avoid it, you’re not suggesting that there be unavoidable MG42 fire, are you? But it’s useful for keeping people out of a particular line of fire and helps you to move your way out of that choke point.

Rail Gun - Depot Yard… so easily avoided (line of sight obscured by numerous obstacles)… acts mainly as suprise weapon. There are several directions you can be shot from, each providing cover.

This gun has, I believe, a complete 360 degree range of fire. I hardly think it’s useless.

I dunno, I just find myself disagreeing with you. I’ve found almost every MG42 emplacement in the game to be useful at one time or another. Some are always going to be more useful than others, but I don’t have any problem with almost any MG42 placements.

The mgs on Fuel Depot are okay some times, but why do they shake so much when you fire them (I mean, they all shake, but these are the most range you’d usualy be firing them over)? At the range that the axis are firing from that one tower it is nearly impossible to kill someone unless they are completely stationary (and even then I seem to outline them in bullets). The only people I tend to kill a lot are the engineers when they are laying down behind the box to build the bridge… even though I can’t see any of them I still hose the box and kill them…

Mobile MG-42 is much more effective on that map, expecially when you have breathe control.

Not sure what servers you play on but i see the mg in railgun at the top of steps at allied spawn used all the time as well as the one at the bottom of the steps across the tracks in the bunker…but to a lesser degree but still used. Also the one at the depot yard is used quite a bit. <shrugs>

As far as fueldump and other maps i see them also being used quite a bit. Maybe the servers are just not MG users your at…heh.
