Yesterday I was at a Local public lan in Canberra, Australia and this Events tourny was none other then ET.
Due to the number of people attending the event the admins decided that 5v5 was going to give the best balance between number of teams and players per team. The tourny was run as Double Elimination Stopwatch.
The 1st map we played was Oasis, my team as Allies did an excelent job of rushing the 1st spawn, caped it on the 2nd attampt and I got the dyno down on the wall. We pushed forward as a team and got both the guns in 4:50. Game ends we swap sides. Seting up as Axis we had one MG holding the tunnel and stairs access, a feild op and a medic holding open area after the allied command post a roaming medic and me as Engie laying down defences on the wall and on the 2nd fuel pump. They didn’t make it close to the flag. That was the team (Team Cool) out of the way.
The 2nd map was Radar, us as Allies again 2 engies and a medic run over the netting to the right of the allies spawn and meet little resistance to the side entrance they plant not long after me and my medic backup reached the main entrance via the grassy hill. With both entrances blown we made a run for the West parts and cap them quickly. The east Radar parts were picked up and moved round though the side entrance and into the bunker. With 4 of the 5 axis waiting at the truck we sent the medic out 1st he manage to take down one before being shot by a Thompson. I take the chance on the suicidal mission as an Engie with an MP4, don’t ask me how I did it cos I’m normaly a reallt bad shot but I managed to kill the 3 remaining Axis and yell at me team mates with the parts to move up and cap. It took as 2:54. Due to some initial confusing we lost the forward bunker a lot sooner then we had hoped. I think it had something to do with our Flamer not knowing how to use the weapon and running into the burnies end. So the blow the front and side entrance not long after and caught the west parts while we were trying to organise some defence. They managed to pick up the east parts but they were returned before the allies made it off the road infront of the tank shed. Defences were finaly put up around the east parts and we camped it out for the next minute. A pretty decent win over [Halo].
Next map was RailGun, once again we are Allies 1st. We managed to hold the 1st tug at the track switch for 5 or so minutes (out of 30) but they got it past and to the depo yard. Thankfully we already had it caped and we spawnd in and enilated them. I laid the defencive mins around the 3 entrances and we held there for the rest of the game with them only getting the tug to the track switch once and close one more time. The key to holding it for that long was out constant yells to the medic and FO for them to drop packs. The mines helped a bit too. So after we managed to defend for the whole time we only needed to complete the map to win. We figured we needed to get the tug past the switch on the 1st run if we were going to get anywhere fast. We faild. It took as 4 or five goes but we did it. As it was making its way past the switch a Medic went on a rambo over the hill between the spawn and the depo yard and caped it just before we got there. After that it was a pretty staight forward map moving the tug up to the switch took a few goes but we got it past and we after that the match was pretty much over. We had beaten PNS.
Forth map was battery, once again we are Allies storming up the beach. Out clan leader decided that 4 out of 5 people will spawn at the left side of the beach due to the cost of losing the whole time due to a well placed arty. With 3 engies a feild op and a medic we got the ramp up with little trouble. We caped the bunker and waited to re group. Three of us made it past the axis spawn with only one axis standing near the bottom of the stairs. I think the medic took him down. We ran though to the hatch, which conviniently was open. One of the engies went to take out the generator while the medic and I ran for the guns. We both went up the left stairs and round down to the gun, I plated and we camped there for the round to end. I can’t remember the time but it was easily less then 4 mins. We held the other team off a for about half the time with our CovOps only having to satchel the ramp twice. Unfortuntly we lost the forward bunker after I got caped by a panzer in the top MG nest. We fell back and I dug in at the controls with a medic while the rest of the team just assulted the bunker and racked up some kills. Thirty seconds left in the game I go AFK to go and brag to the opposing team. They planted the TNT but it was no biggie. So We had defeated my main worry, after Halo, My Wang.
Now given that we had one every game we had to wait for the losers bracket to catch up and give us someone to play in the finals.
After another 2 matches it had been decided that Halo were the team to beat. The admins wanted us to play Best of Three on RailGun, neither team thought this was a good idea. After much chatting between team captins it was decided that FuelDump with a 30 min timer was going to be the final map.
So at around 9:00pm we hoped into the server this time as Axis, 1st time in the tourny for us. I mad certain I spawned at the fuel dump point and I laid my regular 6 mines in the FuelDump. I got the barries up and I placed my two exterior mines. Due to some engie rushing by the oposition they got the tank to the tunnel doors a lot faster then I had hoped but I had done my job so far and laid the defences like a good engie. Now holding the FuelDump with 5 people and almost 25 mins is a bloody hard thing to do. We had one of each class and we spent the whole time running between the frount and side entrance. I can’t remember how many lives I lost but there was usually a medic within follow cam distance to stab me back to life. The got inside the compond a few times and twice I think to plant at the defences. The 1st atempt was defused and the 2nd attempt blew the 1st level of defence but I got it constructed a few seconds latter. Their attacks were getting alot more planed and grouped. With about 5 mins left the had 1 CovOps, 1 Medic and 1 Engie at the East Fortification. I got to watch as the CovOp blew the Fortification and all three of them run into the dump setting off 3 mines killing them all from my vantage point on the wall behind the Fueldump. I got my mines back up and the defences up quickly and we held for the rest of the map. When the map switched we decided that we would rush the bridge at the start. The brigde was up but WHERE THE F*** WAS THE TANK. We had left the tank at the spawn… sigh that held us up for about 10 mins cos they manage to dig in on the hill. We did evently get the tank over the bridge but it sat about 20 meters on the other side for about 5 mins while we tried to repair it and bring it though the tunnels. The rest of the map for us was a dismal effort, not realy playing as a team, getting mowed down buy emplaced MGs and not really making it inside the compond enough times to make an impact. It was a tie.
What next? 10 mins both ways on Oasis. I don’t remember much of our attack as Allies except that I got tked on my way to the 1st gun about 2 mins before we actully blew it up. That was a bit… Frustrating. But I managed to blow the North gun along with the guy trying to defuse it. The next bit I remember is spectating our other Engie with 50 seconds left in the map. He’s sitting in the South gun waiting for his Charge bar to come back cos he had just fired his rifle gren. I watch as two team mates run in to cover him. He plants and arms on the 34 second mark. We have blown the guns in 9:54. This game can NOT tie. If we hold the other team we for 10 mins we win the tourny. The Forward spawn while defended well got caped after about 3 mins. I ran in to try and reclaim, but as allways the Allied team Spawn around me and kill me in their 2 seconds of Invincivility of Dhoom. We pulled back and I laid mines at the 3 major entrances. The sliped though and planted at the South Gun. With a quick Gren to clear the room I ran into see no enemies but an evil red blow. No problems! I whip out the trusty pliers and defuse that TNT. Our medic yells that they are at the North Gun. I jump down from the South Gun and around to the North. I got killed on the way and we lose the North Gun. We cleared the allies out of the base and start the hold the south gun. The clock is ticking down and they have only a minute or so to plant. A lone Allied Engie runs around the walls and plants with yet again 34 seconds left on the clock. He held there for 5 to ten seconds while I’m waiting to sapwn and watching a team mate scrable to get to the gun room. I spawn in and make a rush for it a friendly has tried to get a gren into the gun room but has missed and its lands on the bottom of the stairs… I mustn’t have been thinking cos I ran straight over it. I get gibbed and he runs up behind me and gets into the room and starts defusing… pliers… check… dyno… check… enough time to defuse DENIED! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!
Damn. We lose. I hoped up out of my seat flaming like you wouldn’t belive I paced over to where the other team was sitting and shook each of there hands and congralulated them on a job well done.
I pack my stuff and went home.
All in all it was a great Tourny and I had a heap of fun, I just wished we could have won.
