ET test has become impossible to play...

(BOOTSAUCE) #1

…because of this damn lag issue.

The first week of the ET test was great. While there did seem to be an occasional lag problem, enjoying ET was easily possible. Since then, however, the lag issues have all but killed playability… at least for me, anyway.

No matter the server I join, my lagometer seems to be the only element of this game not affected by extreme lag spiking. In the last few days I’ve seen more yellow and red than in a whole year of classic Wolf.

I’ve also noticed that I tend to leave a server more often because it’s crashed, rather than because I’ve had my fill.

Lag issues aside, ET IS the shiznit (great job SD!), and will be my sole gaming vice, should these lag issues be resolved in future releases.

Im having similar problems, if i play on PB enabled servers i get constant HDD activity that comes in waves. when i dont the game plays flawlessly (apart from the animation bugs)

Classic Wolf plays flawlessly which ever server i use, PB enabled or not.

Ive tried

Pweb.exe
Manual Update
reinstall game/delete pb folder etc

Whats so different between the two PB versions for each game ?
(i read somewhere that PB uses API`s that arent in use much in windoze, if so does ETs PB do more? )

PB support has been no help, some replies leading nowhere to nothing at all.

sys stats:
Athlon 1000mhz
256mb sdram
G2 MX 200 64mb AGP

PLEASE HELP as i love this game.

In reply to number 1.

What you are experiencing is not lag (Although it does seem like it and had me fooled for quite a bit). Anyway, this is just overall choppy gameplay, we all have it. This should be fixed in the final release

In reply to number 2.

Wait for tbe final release, I dont know why, but PB seems to be screwed up, it keeps kickign people randomly.

Maybe you’re right, but it seems some have “it” worse than others. You are correct about the choppy gameplay, though, but I think we’re talking about two distinct problems. I still believe that what I’m experiencing is lag, or extreme packet loss. Otherwise, my lagometer wouldn’t be so darn busy, and colorful.

In any case, I’m hopeful that SD is all over these issues, like flies on…

u sure it isn’t your connection ?

or your net settings in ET ?

fretn

(BOOTSAUCE) #6

Yup, and yup.

As with most peeps suffering the same probs, I have no lag issues when playing classic Wolf - and I use the same net settings for both games. In addition, I have performed several traceroutes on servers that had tremendous lag, to find that there was no bottleneck whatsoever.

The only logical conclusion that I can come to, with this evidence, is that ET test is the problem, and not my rig and/or connection.

Any news on when the next release (be it the final or another test) will be released?

well im putting most of the lag down to bad map design… it may look like lag but i think its the fps. i mean im running a xp 2500+ (barton core) with a radeon 9700 pro and 1 gb ddr 400. and in some places of the map im getting 20fps and on my old rig with a gf 2 pro i get fps in the same areas of 5fps… this is not on… iv seen better custom map designs than this the area im on about mainly is 1# comming out the tunnel up the top(where you run out onto the hill to snipe on the axis (the exit one up from where the tank comes out). and t2# when an axis you spawn down at the fuel depo and you run up the stairs into the first room before going outside onto the wall… thsi is the worst part of the map. otehr than that i like the concept… i hope you dont taake this negitivly im only trying to be helpfull.
