ET:QW will win if...

(SCi-Fi) #1

ET:QW will win over the likes of EA’s BF2 if they back it up with extra maps and regular updates unlike EA who sell it and then dump its customers with bugs and problems. Patch it and dont even fix the problems that ppl are screaming abt & then release a mod, make them buy it and then dont fix the bugs in it with no regular updates, free maps(sorry one free map and it was a copy of an easy one) or just general modifications that would make the game better. What im trying to say is actually listen to the ppl who play the game! Unlike EA who dont even bother…

If ET:QW had this kind of backing then it would wash its competitors away, I play BF2 and will not be buying any more EA’s stuff as they dont give a **** abt its customers.

(kamikazee) #2

ET was free and it even got 3 patches!
So I’m sure SD cares about it’s fans…

(Dazzamac) #3

The fact that many of the SD stafff play ET as much as we do should indicate that the game will be well looked after

(ParanoiD) #4

If Bani is coming with us to ETQW nothing can go wrong :). ETPro is really good and fixes up the missing parts of ET. Hope SD will add these now, else i hope bani comes with us to develop ETQWPro.

welcome to the club.

recent example: i got nfs:mw for xbox360 as i needed a racing game. EA is publisher of namco’s ridge racer in europe and of course delayed ridge racer til january in favor of their own game nfs:mw, although ridge racer 6 is already available everywhere but not in europe, and nfs:mw is just a crappy game which seems to play at 20 fps, stuttering all the time. it seems the game never got a quality check, besides i do wonder how it ever could pass a M$ certification. besides of this game, EA’s sports series got reduced on 360, eg nba live lacks of features which are in the previous games. they reduced gameplay just because they wanted the game to be ready for the xbox360 launch.

EA won’t get any money from me. never again. once they have it, you’re left alone with a crappy bugged game without any chances of getting your money back for buying the cat in the bag.

Patches? We don’t need no stinkin’ patches!

If I had one wish in the whole design process for QW, it would be for a mapping tools with the ease that unrealed brings to the unreal engine. Radiant derivatives are much harder to learn / use, and custom maps are what keep the community going in the long haul, IMO. Otherwise, I’m pretty convinced that ET:QW will be something like a cross of the gameplay of Wolf:ET with the futuristic themes of UT and Quake. And I’m 99.99% sure that’s it going to be pure ownage.

(Joe999) #8

ever since i saw the editor of farcry where you could paint directly into the landscape, i do wonder why there still is something like the radiant which is buggy and where you need a study to be able to use it.

what’s the purpose of radiant? where is the main advantage in it that software companies don’t create a usable editor for games?

(Lanz) #9

Radiant may not have the most intutive user interface but once you learned 6-8 shortcut keys and the somewhat complicated combination of keys like shift+ctrl+left mouse click, you can work really fast in it and it’s very easy to lay out brushes and manipulate them. Radiant is IMO a very productive tool once you get past the inital confusion. Far Cry’s editor is very good for terrain but requires a lot more use of a modeling program for the rest while Radiant for games like Doom 3/Quake 4 is going the other way, a modeling program for the terrain and brushes for the rest. The tools are just tailor made for what the engine is supposed to do best, Far Cry was made for those big islands and the whole engine is geared for that while Radiants background is rooms and corridors.

(Joe999) #10

makes sense, thanks.

i wonder how the megatexture editor looks like.

(EB) #11

But you already bought it and you play it still, right ?

(Etnies) #13

Has bani said anything about coming to ET:QW ? or hinted? hope he does if he can do for QW what he done for ET and im sure the SD guys would be very happy also! :>

nice post lanz kinda summed up Radiantm, for me anyway.

(Nail) #14

hmm, not giving SD’s people much credit when you ask if bani will fix their game for them

(Stahlhelm) #15

ok

(carnage) #16

i much prefer radient over the other tools for other games out there and as said above when you can use it u can realy get some use out of it

having sadi that radint has been around for a long time and i think that there could be a much better tool made to bring things up to date with new engine technologies and capabilites i just dont know anyone making one

(Killgarr) #17

So you are saying you want them to treat us like VALVE treats their customers? Constant fixes, patches and updates for all games, HL2, CSS and DODS.

I have yet to see a better example of product support and helpfullness from a company and their gaming product.

I am already a little leary with SD’s lack of insight (we have had no updates or offical communication for months now). VALVE supported and still supports the modding community in every way. I have not read anything from SD (except a little blurb in the forums) about what type of models we will be able to import, what can we do NOW to prepare for mapping, and how will we make these new “mega” textures.?

We need more input…if we get this little now…what can we expect later?

And what information of this ilk is given before the launch of a game??? None I say, I wish people would realise QW is not out yet and could be a while before it is. All editting information comes in time and unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) that time is not nigh. Once the game is released you will get more solid details. For God’s sake it was ages before Radient was released after ET, not to mention the source code. So once the game is released you will get more info, until then get over it.

PS Dont expect the source code for QW to be on public release. Remember ET was free.

(Dazzamac) #19

Modding information can’t be given out now due to the fact the game won’t be released for another 6 months. Giving that kind of information out would give EA hints on how to make an actually good game. Give it 6 months lads then you’'ll have info

(Killgarr) #20

Ummm, I guess you were not around Pre HL2 release, tons of info was given out, hell, the source code was given to some promising mod teams pre-launch.

I knew what my textures had to be, I knew what my models had to be, we had TONS of inf PRE-release of the game. Like I said, we have not even seen a pic from SD in MONTHS.
