ET:QW Use Direct2Drive?

(SniperSteve) #1

Will ET:QW use direct to drive?
If so, those that format their PC’s often will want to go out and buy it from the store.

What does my license for the game grant me?
While you can download a game as many times as you want, you are only granted two licenses to the game. These licenses are granted in succession, one after the other and you cannot hold the licenses at the same time. The license is valid for one use, on one computer and cannot be shared on another computer. Sharing the license will deactivate it. If you use both licenses due to format or sharing, your ability to use the game will end.

Had it happen to me with ‘FarCry’. I wasn’t happy, but its not a big loss in that case. :stuck_out_tongue:
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up…

If I’m paying the same price to buy it in stores or buy it Direct2drive, I’m buying the in store copy.

(kamikazee) #3

See, there’s nothing that can compare to holding a game in your hands.

Yeah, remind me not to buy from direct2drive then.

See, if was like “You get the exact same thing you’d get in the box, but all digital”. Like, get PDF files of the box cover and manual art, then I’ll consider buying there.

But instead it’s like “You don’t get box art or manual, plus you get a lesser (more DRM) product.”

It’s like buying digial music is now. You get a lesser quality, with less rights. Who wants to buy that?

PS: Can’t wait for Quake Wars. Will try to pre-oder a boxed version now… I doubt I’ll have any luck…heh

they don’t even lower the price, correct? It’s the same price, for just the game itself. There’s no box, no manual, no cd/dvd, no required shelf space, but still $50? No thanks.

(kamikazee) #6

Ok, the only positive side is that you don’t need to go to a shop near you.

Id rather buy the disc. And about the start post. Yeah I format my PC like at least 1 time each year, mostly 2 times a year with a big cleanup between those format (defragmentation, antispyware sweep, virusscan, deleting shit). Keeps my old rig fast, there is nothing better then a fresh install of windows. I even did read a test with a Dell XPS. Games were getting 25% or more extra performance after a format with own instalation of windows and progs!

Glad to see I’m not the only one that just wants to go to the store and pick up that awesome looking box and be able to have something physical.

Honestly, online distribution should be really simple… You pay online with your CC , they send you a unique key (just like a printed CD key) with your receipt, and everything else works as normal. You download an installer, and enter the key.

online distribution would be great imo. If SD were only to release this game on the intraweb i wouldn’t mind… but games are getting pretty big now days ~3GB+.
Personally i would like a box. I have only ever bought one boxed game and that was GW because it was a quality game. maybe release ‘some’ collectors edition boxes and make the rest Drive2drive, SD:ETdownloader etc.

i might buy the game online (if possible) then when the boxes get shipped to australia about 2-3 months later. i Might get a boxed version too.

PS …vent > TS

I don’t like D2D…
I want something you can feel, and look at every day… Like a CD, and the CD-BOX… :nag:

(kamikazee) #12

And unused game CD’s make good coffee mug holders!
Not that harddrives can’t be used but it has to be agreed upon they’re not as handy…

We all know the clever system they use is brilliantly effective at fighting piracy, which funds terrorism.

:disgust:

(viralDNA) #14

Isn’t it true with D2D if you upgrade and need to reinstall that takes a new license etc? I’m constantly changing stuff in my comp, plus I like having something in my possession. Just to know I have it and it’s mine.

Yes and this brings me to the question I thought about a long time ago. WHY don’t they just instantly give you the game download when you buy the BOX GAME online for mail delivery. This way you would have the game installed while keeping your GAME CDs & BOX virginized.

Why are these companies being so greedy as to charge $50 for a software only download. The CD’s and pretty BOX are worth something and I like to have them too if I’m paying 50 DOLLARS!
