ET:QW Ranking System Request

Please, if you do offer a ranking system, please do not charge for it like EA does, even if it requires other means, perhaps a streaming system from server to server or a dedicated Linux binary for independent ranking systems. I’d like to keep the prices down to $1.00 per slot when QuakeWars comes out.

I may be wrong (I usually am) but do EA not have propriatory rights to their servers? Ie, EA set the prices.

I have seen SD telling that everyone can put up a ranked server. Like somehow you can register to ranked system and make your server publish the stats on official ranking server. Not like in BF2 the $$$/€€€ way.

The issue with bf2 is the ranking system. So clanshave to buy ranked servers from mulitplay and every other company and they charge a premium for it. The issue is when you have BF2, 2142 , cod2, css in a multi-gaming clan the cost of running servers drastically is increased. In the end we shelved out ranked bf servers as it was getting very expensive.

This is what i would not like to see happen.

Yep sure have a ranking system but follow the rules of ABR or something similar. This way clans can just upgrade thier existing dedicated box or stick with thier usual one and install the server files. You’ll have more clans interested this way, more servers running, more players.

Just my 2 pence worth.

however ranking is done, it needs to be done carefully…

I played BF2 mostly because of the ranks, medals and ribbons. This wasn’t too bad since there was no real objective to the game. However, you could always see people padding somewhere in the corner of the map.

Even in W:ET had players working on their XP levels rather than helping out the rest of the team, plus when it came to ranking up in ET, it was quite easy to get colonel within a campaign.

I’m not sure what the solution is to stop this, to a certain degree it’s necessary in order to get class benefits. Maybe increasing the amount of levels per class, so raise it to 8 rather than 4. That way a person wanting to become a high-level medic has to spend longer doing so, but still being useful to the team.

That or join a clan and play matches :slight_smile:

I think that SD/Activision isnt even gonna keep your recs. Thats the admin of teh server to decide. In ET:QW, SDs plan is just to have a similar system like ET:QW with 3maps/campaing and after that reset.

Yes but there is persistent stat tracking, which is what is discussed here.

Persistent stat tracking isn’t new. I’m sure SD has improved the flow of information and spiced it up a bit, but persistent stat tracking in W:ET is not like the ranking systems on E$ bf games. Those ranking systems determine your player attributes and must be secured to prevent cheating, hence the reason for the higher cost for the secure servers.

Stat padders will always be an issue in a ranked server system. It’s up to the community admins to monitor their servers to try to ensure a enjoyable game for everyone. I’m sure the obvious anomalies will be apparent on the master server, and could be fixed or deleted when padding is obvious. “The stats in et:qw only matter during a campaign” is the easiest way to put it. Overall stats are just bragging rights, really. (are they anythign else in the b$ games? nah)

Welcome to a game (enemy territory) that actually requires players to work like a team to earn their points. This parts to true team players from the rest.

I am stoked to know that my favorite dev team and id are pulling together this dream of a game. No longer will I have to watch the neanderthal-like meandering that been going on in ‘todays’ MP FPS games. I’m sure I’ll be spending many hours with bleeding eyes with QW. c’mon SD!

Imo persistent stat tracking is a scam. Tracking status of thousands and thousands players. We all know theres no real need for it. And yet here it is, its a growing trend and now many games use it. Why? Becouse Money Talks. Its always as simple as that
