Another QuakeCon is nearly upon us. In fact, I’m guessing a bunch of folks are already on their way to Dallas to line up tomorrow to get the best BYOC spots reserved. This one, our 10th now, I feel confident in saying, will be the best one yet. The tournaments are always a spectacle at QuakeCon, and this year is no exception, with $150,000 split between ET, DOOM 3, the Classic Quake II tourney and the first ever OFFICIAL Ms. QuakeCon female championship cash prizes. But this year, I think the regular folks are in for the biggest treats. John Carmack is back for his keynote in person for the first time in 3 years. We have a special presentation on the DOOM movie that you will only see at QuakeCon. And the parties and events that we’ve worked with our sponsors to provide will really be a blast. Mr.Sinus, pizza, free beer, Dismantled live on stage, “Quake Jam”, and more… And of course the workshops and sessions are always a hit.
If you don’t have a reserved spot in the BYOC and are going to try and make it on standby, please take my advice and show up as early as you can. With the new bigger venue at the Gaylord Texan (unstable name), we had a few extra spaces last year, but based on the pre-registration numbers, I’m sure we will fill up every slot we have this year. If you can’t get in the BYOC, there’s still plenty to do, so feel free to come on out. NVIDIA, Creative, Activision, and Intel, our title sponsors, will all have very cool stuff in their booths. Maybe you can even get Carmack to autograph your copy of DOOM 3.
See you there!
