nope. We don’t have any forbidden content just because the government thinks they know whats best for everyone.

I can’t think of anything that i can’t see if I don’t want to. I can look at all the swastikas I want to.

I was referring to generally taking away your privacy and freedom, not banning some specific content. Like your government spying on you, for example. I don’t think the the US are a free country any more. One more example: They can make you to testify against yourself in court. That’s a violation of one of the basic rights in our systems. Have a look at here, those are videos from a CCC conference. Download video nr. 1112, “modern disk encryption”. There’s some quite interesting legal talk in it.
Anyway, as you wrote there’s censorship too. I don’t think it’s that much a question of quantity (how much is being censored ?), there should be no censorship at all. One game more or less being banned doesn’t make the difference. A free country should be able to handle controversial content (=ideas, speech) without censorship.
Mmh, since Nipplegate your TV is actually censored. But imho this goes offtopic now …
I don’t understand. You want the devs to make a nerfed game for kiddie germans, while everyone else gets the stuff that is meant to be in the game? How would that work if a german player is playing against an american player? The german just wouldn’t have the weapons the american has?
No what I want is for the game to remain un-nerfed for the rest of us. If that means the Germans have to be singled out for their own special nerfed version then so be it. The altenative is we all get a version with nerfed effects.
As for what happens when a German plays an American, I presume the effectiveness of the weapons would be the same just that the crisping effects of the flamethrower or the blood wouldn’t be there. Even if that wasn’t case and the Germans couldn’t play anyone else, who cares (sorry German peeps), but why should every other country in the world suffer becasue of German laws? Its up to you to protest to get them lifted if it affects your ability to play a game, not forec them on the rest of us.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but…
Al.
Well actually, they aren’t that hard at indexing games anymore. I mean D3 and HL2 were both 18+, although thy contain some gore. RtCW was first banned for the Nazi symbolry, then the second version got indexed because of gibs and the flame thrower.
If you consider that stock ET wasn’t gory at all (ETPro added some gibs though) and that the game hasn’t got any simple DM mode (which focusses on killing) but an objective mode (emphasis on teamplay, killing isn’t the only thing you can do to win), I’d be very surprised if ETQW would be indexed.
You also seem to forget that not the responsible office censors the game, but the developers. The office only hands out a rating, and it’s up to the developer to censor the game as much as he wants (the more he does the lower ratings get avaible).
And I wouldn’t just dismiss ze germans that easily. Have you ever looked on some server lists? Most european servers (about 1/4 to 1/3) are located in Germany (at least for W:ET), and Germany is still a vital market for PC games (with the UK, South Korea and the US) since it is one of the last countries were consoles are not dominating the market.
Off course dont dismiss the germans. They did that in the 30s and thats why we have ET!
Imagine if ze Nazi’s didnt go mental and try and take over the world. It would mean no ET, which in turn would mean no QW. And what would the SD guys be at? Scrounging on some street corner for enough pennies to buy a severly low budget quiche?
I will buy my copy (of the english/int’l version) at my favourite game shop (I’m over 18 so I don’t need to care if ET:QW gets on the index or not).
