ET:QW FAQ

About

Since there have been loads of new people joining the forum and there probably will be for some time, I thought it would be a good idea to write down all the verifyable facts about ET:QW. Then when another duplicate question is posted, forward them to this post.

If something is missing or inaccurate, post here or PM me and I’ll edit the first thread.

The FAQ

  • [li]Release date estimates are around April 2007. Reports of fiscal year 2008 translate to 2007-2008 in non-fiscal calendars. But as always, “it’s done when it’s done”
    [/li]
[li]The game is multiplayer only. Single player games can only happen if a third party writes a bot addon.
    [/li]
[li]Team sizes are aimed at 24-32 ideally. It has been said that 128-player server could be created.
    [/li]
    [li]Each team has 7 deployables:
[/li]The GDF Field Ops can deploy an Artillery Gun turret, a Rocket Artillery Turret and the Hammer Launcher.
The Strogg Oppressor can deploy a Rail Howitzer turret, a Plasma Mortar turret and the Dark Matter Cannon
The Engineer and Constructor can deploy anti-personnel, anti-vehicle and anti-missle turrets
The Covert Ops and Infiltrator can deploy radar sensors

[li]The QuakeCon preview can be downloaded here:
    [/li]http://planetquake4.net/file=2333

[li]The QuakeCon modding discussion can be downloaded here:
    [/li]http://www.planetquake4.net/download.php?op=fileid&lid=2334

[li]Vehicles can not be stolen by the enemy team
    [/li]
[li]When a GDF member is killed a Strogg constructor can turn the body into a one-time spawn location for their team
    [/li]
[li]The game should ship with all the editors and map source files. It is likely that the full SDK, assets used to create megatextures and source model files will be available after release also
    [/li]
[li]Minimum computer specs are not public yet. However one thing is certain: “You will definitely need a 3D graphics card”
    [/li]

actually those are just the manned turrets. i know at qcon the engineer could deploy antipersonnel and antivehicle turrets that automatically acquire targets… and the strogg technician has something similar.

(Dr_Tenma) #4

The Strogg Enginner-equivalent is the Constructor, not Technician (is the medic). And I believe the Constructor anti-personnel turret is automated normally, but can be manned also. In any case, your point was correct - 7 deployables per team including 3 artilleries, 3 automated defense, 1 radar.

TheRedStuff has a great ETQW FAQ, I read the whole thing a couple of weeks ago. Good news site in general as well, quick on the updates.

Edit: Actually the general info on there is great, but they seem to have some big gaps in the details for vehicles, weapons and deployables. Minor qualms, since all that type of info is … subject to change…

(RosOne) #5

Glad you liked it. The lack of detailed info has it’s reason: The info from the alpha stages (E3/GC build) is very old and we didn’t get much info on the new stuff yet. The new FAQ (hidden) is being updated all the time with details on every weapon, vehicle, item, class, etc. as they appear but will only be made available once the rest of the information appears

is it ok to take that FAQ and add it here?

It would be nice if moderators or someone made an official FAQ therad.

OT: been reading the RedStuffs FAQ and there was mentioning of some “real time weapon switching” - what is that?

(Ifurita) #9

Is dropping a weapon and picking up another one considered next-gen?

(RosOne) #10

No clue why you’d want to do that, it’s pretty outdated afaik.

Watch at 2:53! It’s next-gen

(Dr_Tenma) #11

Haha. That was NOT real time weapon change… ¬_¬

ETQW however, has excellent animations. The cough real video footage of QW weapon changing is on the QuakeCon stage demo. Switching to a pistol doesn’t have the same animation as switching the rifle in/out of your hands. The character actually reaches to his back or to his leg holster appropriately. Sprinting and other animations are all high-frame and realistic looking too. Watching the GDF’s animations reminds me of America’s Army and I mean that in a very good way.

Yes but is it next-gen?!
