ET:QW - 6on6 possible?

(crusa) #1

I’ve read that the ET:Q maps will be optimized for 24 - 32 players. So will 6on6 without vehicles be sensefull anyway? In “Battlefield 2” they play 8vs8 on maps for 16 players - with vehicles. But 6on6 on maps for 24 players without vehicles - will that work?

So what do you think, will 6on6 (without vehicles) become widely accepted by the teams, like in the original ET? That would be a great step for eSports and competitive gaming. Or will ET:QW clanwars be more like in “Battlefield 2”, 8on8 with vehicles (that would be bad…)

i don’t like it when people compare this game with bf :frowning: …boehooo
etqw will be alot better than bf and it’s not a rippoff

(madness) #3

Doesn’t really depend on maps size really…W:ET maps are quite big too, but the action is always concentrated to one place so you don’t have to search for enemy like in BF2 or smth :stuck_out_tongue: And it’ll be like that in QW too…
dunno about vehicles. If everyone can spawn near the action at all times, then there would be no need for vehicles :stuck_out_tongue: infantry is exciting enough

I’ve covered this in other threads in the past, but we play ETQW 6 vs 6 quite a lot in the office.

Great news, thanks

The clanscene needs 6on6 =)

(darki) #7

nice to hear this

but will there be the same amount of vehicles in a 6on6 as in a 32player match?

(Nail) #8

probably, you think they would magically disappear ?

possibly after release there will be some way for servers to add or remove vehicles as needed

and remember folks, games aren’t designed for clannies, if they were, all we would see are box maps and stick figures

Quiet, you pub nub! :bash:

But the pub nub has a point, game play is king, graphics means nothing yadda yadda… :fiesta:

Wils 6on6 works good without vehicles ?

(Zyklon) #12

There are actually is one, it was made by some “Quake pr0-gam0r.”
It’s called Ultrono Arena and it is almost exactly what you describe: you have 3 weapons (rocket launcher, railgun, shaft), no gun models, a default fov of 110, very fast movement
and your enemies are displayed as colored spheres.

Though it hadn’t much success, certainly because the so-called “eSports” is not as popular as one would need such a game.

Funny idea… this would screw up the planned gameplay for a map as much as removing the tank on fueldump but letting the gates and walls in it… guys a map is planned and designed for a max of gameplay in all aspects. Tinkering with major elements of a gameplay (and vehicles ARE major) is one of the worst ideas you can have.

If you are searching for smaller 6on6 maps without vehicles, you should rather be hoping for mappers to do them.
But why should I as a mapper abstain from using the vehicles, which will be the new and exciting thing about QW? That would be like building ET maps without a CP, VOs, crates and escortable vehicles.
AND tbh, as mapping is artwork too, why on earth should I be interested in making boxmaps for clanners? To me that would be a waste of time.

If you can edit the ammount of players, you can unbalance the game too right? The more settings you have, the more option to balance your server just the way you like it.

Because ET:QW should look like “Enemy Territory 2” and not like “Battlefield 3”! That’s what we want, finest shooter-action! I want to play 6on6 without vehicles, otherwise I could play Battlefield 2142 anymore.

Great question /bump

(grudgebearer) #17

How about you send me a copy of the version you are playing and the IP of your server and then you can try out some 6 vs 7, you know…for…ah…uh balance purposes…yeah that’s it.

(jah) #18

lot’s of mappers do it. just look @ supplydepot, adlernest, snatch… etc… they’re all played in ET competitions and they all look like maps mad for “stick man” characters and not for real W:ET possibilities/eye candy (on the other hand, maps like frostbite - i know it’s a port from rtcw - kick some serious ass).

@topic:
this has been covered i don’t know how many times. there’s even a video @ gamespot that was shot @ E3 featuring an interview with paul from SD where he talks a LOT about gameplay on ET:QW. just do a quick research before asking these questions.

I’m a 6on6 player myself and i can’t wait to a) get a copy of ET:QW; b) see modders releasing competitions mods for ET:QW (like etpro for ET - do you see yourself playing competitions based on etmain don’t you? naa ofcourse you don’t);

Does it really matter if there are vehicles on the map or not during a match? The league that sets up the competition can just include a ‘no-vehicles’ rule if they want a infantry only competition.

A lot of 5v5 competitions have this. I personally remember it in a 5v5 Battlfield Vietnam ladder we used to play on. If you move a vehicle you forfeit.

(kamikazee) #20

IIRC, ET:QW has a CVar to disable all vehicle spawns.
