A good sondtrack would be good, probally end up turning music off after like a week anyway, But a good techno song would sound sweet or The Fureys - the green fields of france (get it now ppl!)
ET-Quake Wars Soundtrack
after listening to outofcontrol_mix1.mp3 the only reasonable solution i can see it to get errol to make the soundtrack to the game
its giving me to rtcw on LSD feel
Yeah great wee tune but my fav has to be This Road is Closed!
“What am I going to do with all this cheese!!!”
Ummm, humour is a variant of humor. The standard way of spelling it is “humor”. If your not British, then I know a bunch Canadians who thinks it’s cool to spell words another way. I think it’s silly the dictionary gives the same word a different spelling.
I wonder when this “standard” was developed? I do believe that humour and colour existed long before some people dropped some of the letters to allow them to spell words easier. As Kage pointed out, the countries of the Commonwealth speak proper English, not some bastardised version of it. Now it makes we wonder why it is called the English language???
So how about a bit of C&W for the background tunes. A little bit of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.
Orchestral style music suits best as it easily blends into the background. I cant stand listening to my own music when gaming, its distracting. I have to admit i did enjoy Half Life 2’s soundtrack, when the techno kicked in during the railyard chase i actuall enjoyed it, it helped with the pace and atmosphere… i thought i was in a holywood movie for a while. Then i wised up.
Wikipedia has a fine entries on both spellling differences and the notable lexicographer Noah Webster 1758-1843, compiler of the eponymous Dictionary and (perhaps more importantly) “The Elementary Spelling Book” which by 1861 was selling a million copies a year. Webster was keen to make American English easier to learn, more efficient to use and generally less elitist, so he simplified the spelling by eliminating redundant letters. So post-Webster American English has color instead of colour, honor instead of honour and thru instead of through (although, bizarrely, not enuf instead of enough). Center/centre, theater/theatre, draught/draft, axe/ax, disc/disk, grey/gray etc.
There. That’s pretty much all I learnt in a whole junior honours year of English Language. Oh, that and splitting infinitives. And the Schwa.
Yea, you are right, colour and humour are originally Englishs word and over the years I guess we Americians figured you spelled it wrong and it needed to be corrected, now color and humor is the new standard in American spelling apparently. You can tell I don’t get out much.
Sorry I ever brought it up. Gezz. It was originally meant to point where one was from by the way they spelled something, not because it was spelled wrong and then Nail pointed out “Muicans”. Good call Nail
OK,That should have been the end of this “off topic” unless somebody likes to keep stirring up dust.
So now can we get back on the topic of music…
No, no, we still have grammar and lexis to cover. Wait till we get to Nominatives and Accusatives! Oh alright *goes back to hammering forehead against game design.

Thinkin the classical route could be good, I always enjoy opening a can of whuppass to the sound of Adagio for strings
Dazza, That was not appropriate.
Either a classical or orchastral with a mix of rock. You do have to have some of the quake theme come through, which is all out rock.
Rock makes me go into all out kill mode which isn’t always a good thing in team games where sometimes making the sneak and waiting for an oportune moment is a better course of action.
In hindsight probably wasn’t appropriate but I’ve had a ceck morning and I feel the need to vent all my pet hates and insult everyone, hope no offense was taken :blah:
Kill mode FTW
No offence taken, just it wasn’t cool. :\ (I feel your pain though)
Damn, anybody care to email me the cut text Dazzamac said or at least tell me about what the hell it was he said? I wanna know
I hate cut text…
at a gess the sound for the game will probably match or be similar to the sound on the trailer asuming they are trying to create the same kind of atmosphere in the actual and im pretty sure SD would not misslead us like that
as for games like bf2 on the other hand, the exiting fast paced shooter action in the trailer but might have been exagerated a bit to shift the game
BF2 in the trailer looked like this hard core fast paced action shooter with cool vehicle stunts and realism. Once you played it, it was just like. Bleh…
Hmm… as Id soft. seem to like metalmusic, as for Quake, Doom 3 and those games used that type of music, I think ETQW might be using some sort of music from that genre too… however I’m not sure as for what I’ve heard it’s splash damage themselves who’re doing etqw, and that Id ain’t helping at all? :F
If that’s the case I really have no idea of what it could be. I’ll just sit down a wait for the goodies.
No music please, unless it’s made to last. In many games I eventually end up disabling the music, because it gets too repetitive/annoying after a while. The solution is to use ambients instead, or forget music alltogether and compensate with rich and high quality sounds. If music is too noisy/badly designed, you can’t hear footsteps, for example.
By ‘made to last’ I mean ‘it doesn’t make your ears hurt after a while’. HL1 machinegun may sound powerful, but hurts your ears. Wolf:ET guns sound wimpy, but are merciful for your ears. Half-life was otherwise very good in sound effects/ambients department. Homeworld2 has some very good ambients, too.
